UPDATE 7/11/08 - Jersey is still the love of OUR lives!!!!!!!!!!!
She enjoyes her home here in Salamanca with the fenced in yard and squirles to watch and chase.
Because she is deaf she has so many little attributes that other doges do not have. If she doesn,t want
to come in or go she just sits and thinks "I am being good I don't have to do that because I'm sitting
and that means I'm a good dog." She makes all of us laugh. She is like a rock and will not move.
She lost the love of her life "Schotzy" my 14 year old boxer 2 weeks ago. They were soul mates. She
sits at night and the tears roll down her face, and they say dogs are just animales and don'y feel.  Not
true.
Our love is there for her but nothing will replace her "Schotzy".

UPDATE 7/14/07 - Jersey came to me in June and is the LOVE of our lives. I have to say OUR
because  She LOVES everyone!!!!!!! The boxers schotzy, MJ, and snickers........My handicap
people PAT ANNIE CHAR CHARLIE and DALE and of course ME. sHE WAKES ME WITH A
KISS AT LEAST FOUR TIMES a night. What more can I say WE love her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6/07- Jersey has been adopted!

4/15/07 - Jersey is just a wonder dog. Her foster parents think she is just a great girl and so lovable
and fun to be around. She has become one very dedicated dog. She loves people and helped us
welcome some company for Easter dinner. She met everyone very nicely and as long as she can be
near her people, she
is one happy girl. I also want to tell you about her newest trick. She knows how to speak with doing a
hand signal. It is so fumy to watch her. She has been very well trained and again, I do believe that you
could
teach her anything that you wanted her to know by using hand signals. She continues to do well in her
crate while we are at work. She has never had an accident in her crate or in the house since she has
been here.
She plays a lot with the other dogs here and plays quite often with one of the 9 yr old fosters that we
have. She also gives lots of kisses to her doggie friends here at her foster home. Jersey would do well
with another dog in her new home. She really wants to please and will work with you to make it
happen. It is important with Jersey that you stay on top of her, making her work for her treats and
always teaching her that you are in control. She is going to make some family very happy. She is
anxious to get to her new forever home. She is ready and waiting.

3/18/07 - Jersey continues to be a good girl at her foster home. I am surprised that no one has
scooped up this great girl. Don't let her deafness scare you away as she doesn't know that she is any
different than just a normal dog. She is so alert and in tune with things that most people would never
know unless you told them. Jersey is such a smart dog and anyone who wanted to continue with her
hand signal training could take this girl to any level. She is smart and she needs a job so don't be
worried about bonding with her. Jersey looks to her leaders for guidance and really wants to please.
She will always look to you as to what you want her to do. Her newest trick this week has been
(drum roll please) Jersey will open a crate door to get something out that she wants. I have seen her
do this and she works and works at it. All of the dogs here get peanut butter filled marrow bones in
their crates when we go to work. When we come home, they are all let out and the doors on the
cages are locked again until we have time to striaghten their blankets out and retreive their marrow
bones to fill for the next morning. When she comes back in the house from being outside, she will go
over to her crate and pick at the handle with her mouth opening the door. It is too funny to watch.
She will take out her marrow bone or her small water dish. She is just way to smart. She will shake
with one foot and if you asker her for the other, she will give you that one too. She is just too much.
Jersey is a good girl in her crate and is a great eater. She also eats 2 meals per day of kibbled food.
She loves to play with another dog and likes toys. Jersey is needing to get to her forever home soon
before she settles in anymore here. She will love her owners without question and always looking to
please. She won't disappoint you and will become a very dedicated dog to her masters.

2/24/07 - Jersey has done pretty well adjusting to her foster home. She really does try to please but
you have to stay on top of her as she will take advantage if you don't. She is a sweetheart and loves
to play with you or she likes to get lots of attention. She knows many commands and will do them
without much hesitation. She knows sit, paw, give me the other paw, and down and come. She shows
a little dominance when there is allot of activity but should do fine if another dog that she is with is
submissive. She gets corrected here and is fine with it but our girl Peaches and her are made out of
the same mold. Jersey wants to plese so with contant reminders, she will make you a happy pet
owner. She loves to give kisses and there is no place she would rather be than sleeping at your feet.
She will become a very dedicated pet to her family. She will bark at another dog to play and I have
been trying to put an end to that. She just gets excited and forgets. She sleeps free at night in the
house and is usually just outside our bedroom on a dog bed. She likes to be close. She is excellent at
night being free in the house. We do crate her while we are at work and she goes right in for a peanut
better filled marrow bone. She doesn't mind it at all. If you think you have what it takes to be the
owner of Jersey, fill out an application and make her yours. She is a good girl who just needs one
more chance which she is deserving of.

2/18/07 - Jersey is the newest guest to the Boxer'In on the lake. Once again Jersey has made her way
back to rescue. Her last home had her for 2 years before realizing that she is not good with smaller
pets. It's not that she is mean but they felt she played just too rough and got the boot. Jersey is a white
deaf 4 year old girl with natural ears and a couple of brindle patches on her tail and above one eye.
She is a sweetheart and has been good her first full day here. Jersey wouldn't eat her dinner last night
but we offered it to her later in the evening and she ate it. This morning she gobbled down her
breakfast that she enjoyed very much. She has met all her foster brothers and sisters and seems to be
doing well in her spot in the pack. Jersey slept in our bedroom on a dog bed and was good all night
long. She has had no accidents in the house and will go out when asked to. She knows a few hand
commands and is happy to show you what she knows. She does key off of the other dogs so that she
never misses a trick. She did live with another boxer in her previous home and enjoyed his company
but he had passed away and I think she might have been a little lonely. She loves to play and get
attention. Jersey will be going to the vet as she needs a heartworm
test and it doesn't look like she has been on heartworm preventative since being in rescue. She needs
a nail trim very badly and will get one today when I can catch her relaxing. I think she is going to do
fine here. Jersey needs a home that perhaps has another dog her size that she can play
with and who can be her ears. She is so worth the effort that you will put in. She gives lots of nice
kisses.

2/17/07 - Jersey has arrived at her foster home to look for another home.  She is still cute as a button
and is busy keeping up with her foster brothers and sisters. She loves other dogs and should do well
here once she gets more comfortable. More on her tomorrow.

UPDATE 2/4/07 - It's been 2 years and Jersey has really become a wonderful companion.  We
recently lost our other dog, Dennis, to cancer and after a brief period, Jersey has adjusted very well.
She is much more calm and just an absolute pleasure to be around.  When I look back at all of the
progress that she has made from when we first brought her home, it's hard to believe that she's the
same dog!  I think without another dog to compete with, Jersey is much more in tune to everyone and
always wants to do a good job.  She always knows just what to do to make everyone smile.    She
responds so well to just a little encouragement.  And, she has even learned a lot of manners!  Jersey
has learned several tricks with hand signals.  She can sit, roll over, give paw, jump up and give you a
hug, give kisses.  (She loves to give kisses!)We worked for months to teach her to bark with a hand
signal, and she's finally mastered that too.  If anyone out there has any fear of adopting a deaf dog,
please don't let that stop you.  Jersey is the nicest, most gentle dog and we wouldn't trade her for
anything in the world!

UPDATE 3/8/05 - Jersey is doing very well!  She and our other boxer, Dennis, have learned to get
along  well.  She has learned a couple of tricks and we're still working on manners.  I have never seen
a dog that is so eager to please.  Jersey has helped aleviate Dennis' anxiety about being alone.  She is
an absolute pleasure, always happy!  She has decided that our 8 year old belongs to her and sleeps
with him every night.

2/13/05 - Jersey has been adopted!

01/11/05 Jersey is back at the pup tent, she was adopted out to a nice couple with another boxer but
she was way to friendly with the cats.  Anyway, Jersey has settled back in to the routine here and
continues to make good progress.  I actually left her out to free roam the house yesterday for 6 hours
and nothing was bothered!  this is big progress for a dog that would make fast work of alot of stuff
when left free.  She sleeps freely with the other 4 residents and gets along with male and female alike.
She loves children but can be a bit rambuctious with little ones. Her fur is as soft as rabbit fur, which
seems to be typical for white boxers.  Don't know why, but most of the white ones are so soft. She
responds to her signs, living with a deaf dog is not as difficult as you might think.  there are about 6
basic signs that we use daily and she knows what each means.  To get her attention, if you stomp on
the floor, she must feel the vibration on the floor and she will find you. When sleeping, a gentle touch
on her side is all that's needed.  she is an active dog, don't get me wrong, but with patience, she is
turning into a behaving girl.  Her one annoying thing that we are working on on a daily basis is her
barking.  I do believe that if she were placed in a home with one other dog that likes nonstop play,
this would greatly be relieved.  She will stand in front of the other dogs and bark to get them to play.
She responds well to the squirt bottle, but it is something that will need work ongoing.  We went away
for a week, and had a housesitter for Jersey and Oni.  The housesitter said that there was practically
no barking.  It is hard in a house with 4 other dogs to see for yourself, but it is our belief that she
would do better without all the added stimulation.  If you came to our home, and I didn't tell you
which one was deaf, your guess would only be a lucky one.  This is a great boxer with alot of
potential. She is waiting for a home to call her own.

12.11/04 OK folks, what's taking so long for this great girl to get a home to call her own?  Jersey
continues to do wonderfully here at the Pup Tent, she has yet to meet anyone or anything she doesn't
love.  She is without a doubt, the happiest free-spirited Boxer ever! She doesn't know how to be
mean.  She is completely housebroke and goes willingly into the crate for a kong filled with peanut
butter.  She continues to sleep freely in the house at night with the other fur kids and I have taken to
leaving her uncrated if I have short errands to run and she is doing great.  Upon meeting our friend's 2
yr old, it was love at first sight, but she wanted to play and he was like a Weeblo, easy to knock
over!  She would make a great companion for someone that is home most of the day, I really don't
want to see her crated all day.  Her deafness isn't any hinderance to her at all.  We use about 6 or 7
basic hand signs around here, and even the hearing dogs know what they mean.  Take a chance, you
won't be sorry!

11/15/04 Greetings from the Pup Tent and the gang!  Jersey continues to be just about the happiest
boxer I have ever seen.  Not a mean bone in her body.  She loves everyone and everything.  She gets
along just fine with the three resident supremes and Oni, our male. She loves kids, baby boomers and
seniors.  She is totally housetrained, never had an accident in the house.  She is crate trained, just
show her a bone or a peanut butter stuffed kong and she goes in her crate by herself. She would fit in
any home as an only dog or with another.  She might be a bit much for smaller children, as she likes to
play and can get carried away, she is still just a baby herself. Her barking at the other dogs has gotten
better, she thinks that's the way to get them to play with her. Her only negative is the fact that she is
deaf.  It has never seemed to stop her, she understands our hand signs and follows well.  Please
consider this sweet girl for your home.

9/29/04 Jersey continues to do well here at the tent.  She eats twice a day and continues to get along
with the other 4 dogs here.  She loves everyone who comes through the door too. She is housebroke
but would do well in a home where someone is home during the day as she is still young and very
active.  She needs continual work with her signs and learning NO!  She hasn't grasped the play
concept and will stand in front of the other dogs and bark to get them to play with her.  She would do
well in a home with or without another dog and older children as she liked to boss the young children
in her other home. Jersey is a happy loving girl who needs a home of her own.

9/17/04 Unfortunately, Jersey has made her way back to rescue and the Pup Tent. Her very sad
family made the difficult decision to return her because she just was too much for their 2 children that
are under 4 yrs old.  She was good with them, their male boxer and the two older kids, but tried to be
the "boss" and it wasn't a situation that could go on anymore.  So, I guess a home with older kids is
what Jersey needs.  Her deafness was not a factor in her return just so you know.  She put on a few
pounds since she left, but other than that, she walked right in and made herself at home like she never
left.  The supremes (the 3 resident females) and Oni welcomed her back. She hasn't lost her
playfullness or her enthusiasm!  Will update in a few more days,  get that application in on this fine girl!

UPDATED – 8/13/04   Jersey, now known as Gracie, is doing just great here in her new forever
home! The first week was a huge adjusting period for her and us, but things have improved 100%!!
She and our other boxer Apollo are getting along wonderfully. They will play in the yard together for a
while, and since it has nothing but rained here in NY in the past month, Gracie (a nice white boxer),
will come in covered in mud! She has had more than a few baths since she has been with us, LOL!
Gracie is just the sweetest dog, she always wants to be right with us. She is laying at my feet right now
as I type this! We couldn't be happier with her. A big thanks to SCBR for allowing us to bring Gracie
into our family and another special thanks to Linda for all her help and support!

7/17/04 - Jersey is a loving caring dog who needs a wonderful home to spend the rest of her years
with.  Jersey gets along with all the boxers in the pup tent and loves every human that walks in and out
of her foster home.  Jersey's velvet coat and beautifully painted face, as well as wonderful personality
are only a few reasons that Jersey deserves a loving deserving forever home.  This girl has learned
that the pool isn't fun because she has to get wet and no one goes in with her.  At the end of the night
all this little girl wants to do is curl up on the couch and sleep.  Even though Jersey is deaf she is just
as smart as all the other dogs in the pup tent,  Jersey is a great walker, and doesn't mind going in her
crate as long as she has her kong with peanut butter.  There is not a minute in this girl's life that her tail
isnt wagging, expecially when her foster dad comes home from work.  This beautiful young lady will fit
into to any family, and will make an excellent addition that you will never regret.

7/6/04 - This Jersey girl is about the happiest boxer that the Pup Tent has seen in awhile!  Her paint
brush nub of a tail goes non stop all day long. She has been here 10 days now and we have all settled
in.  Jersey sleeps freely in the house with the resident Supremes (3 resident spayed female boxers)
and Oni, our male foster.  If you're interested in Jersey, you better be an early riser cause she's at the
door anywhere from 6am on wanting to be let out.  As far as housetraining goes, I would say she is,
she had 2 accidents the second night she was here which was the first night we let her sleep free, and
she had one accident in the crate the first night.  Since then, no accidents.  She is catching on fast to
the hand signals we use.  She definately knows the sign for going outside and for treats or food.  She
knows sit and is learning down, come and no.  Her deafness doesn't slow her down one bit. We crate
her when everyone is leaving the house, it's just good sense.  With 5 dogs here, I don't want to come
home to a problem.  She doesn't like the crate, but willingly goes in when a peanut butter filled kong is
held in front of her nose! She would have to be crated during absences, she can and will get herself in
trouble with chewing.  She eats twice a day, is alittle jumpy around visitors, (not nervous jumpy, just
can't keep my feet on the ground jumpy) but I do believe that her previous owner had worked on that
and she does try very hard to keep all four feet on the ground! She is loving and friendly to the wide
range of ages we get here at the tent, my  7 yr old niece all the way up to my 80 yr old mother-in-law
think she is quite the happy girl.  She would definately do best in a home with another hearing dog,
and a stay at home person, as she is active and still very young.

6/27/04 - The Pup Tent is happy to present Jersey, our newest guest.  Jersey is an owner surrender.
Due to her deafness, her sad owner felt that Jersey needed more attention than he was able to
provide. Jersey is all white, but she has the cutest paint brush.  Her docked tail is all brown making it
look like she stuck it in a bucket of paint! She also has a brown eyebrow and some nice black
eyeliner. Her ears are natural.  Introductions with the skin and fur residents went very well, we
expected it would as Jersey is a very happy dog.  Our three females were very friendly with her and
Oni, our male foster is in love!  We will be feeling each other out in the next few days, but for now, I
can tell you with confidence that she is a nice dog and would make a nice addition to any family.  Due
to her deafness, she will need to be adopted into a family that has another dog and a fence.  More to
come..
..
Don't I look so pretty in my pink
sweater!?
