5/6/07 - Cricket is back in rescue to find another home. Her last home felt since she always wanted to
be in her crate, that she was not happy there & they were not happy with her either. More updates
soon from her new foster home.
UPDATE 4/18/07 - Cricket is still the same. She won't leave the crate on her own. She's completely
anti-social. It seems no matter what we try we can't break through the puppy mill mentality. When we
first brought her home she was more involved with our other dog but she would have constant accidents
- due to anxiety over not being in the crate. Unfortunately, she needs the crate - 24/7. Now the dogs
don't hang out at all because Bronco doesn't want to wait in the kitchen all day for her. During the day
her crate door stays open and she won't come out. She needs to be pulled out to eat and to go out.
UPDATE 3/18/07 - Cricket is doing well. Our daughter Ali changed her name right after we brought
her home and it's stuck. She does respond to it and wiggles when someone calls her. When we first
brought her home she opened up a lot- she loves the kids and our other boxer Bronco. She had been
sharing a bed with him and followed him wherever he went. Within a day we started seeing her give
kisses and seeking out attention.
It did take her about a week and half to learn to eat out of a raised dish and to learn to go out on the
runner. She now goes out and will only do her business on the deck- when the weather's nicer we'll
have to
re-train her to make it to the grass!
We did decide to set up the crate again because she was having peeing accidents in the house-despite
being let out or walked constantly. We had been hestitant because at the foster home she did nothing
but live in the crate- and that's exactly what she does now. If we let her, she'd stay in there all day.
She's definitely more comfortable around me (Rachael)and will come out of the crate for me when I call
her but will not come out on her own to explore, eat or to let me know she has to go out. When she is
out, she's become very skittish and timid again. It'll just take time to figure out a good balence.
2/17/07 - Jerrica has been adopted!
2/12/07 - Jerrica came through her surgery today with no problems. She has eaten alittle and gone out
for a walk. She is spending the night in the hospital and I will pick her up tomorrow afternoon. She
does have an ear infection so she will be coming home with medicine. Will not know the results of her
fecel test untill tomorrow. Jerrica will be leaving with her forever family on 2/17. Have a great life
Jerrica I will always keep you in my heart.
2/11/07 - Jerrica had a great day today. I should start on Friday, my cleaning lady came and not a
peep out of her. She said she looked at her, but did not move from the crate. Then today my brother
came over with his yellow lab and Jerrica came out wagging and all happy. She was funny.
She would come out looking for Lacy who could have cared less about Jerrica and lean up against her
then run back to the crate, then back out again in search of Lacey. This went on for as long as they
stayed. She even came and sniffed my brothers hand put backed away when he went to pat her. But
the tail never stopped wagging. It was so fun watching her. After they left she still came out looking
and after about three more searches realized Lacy was gone and then back to the crate for a rest.
Say a prayer for her as she goes in on Monday for her surgery. Will keep you posted on Monday night.
2/4/07 - Jerrica had a big day at Petco. She was the dog I am hoping she turns out to be. Her whole
personality changed. Her tail started wagging the minute we walked into the store. She loved all the
dogs she meet and had no use for the cats just ignored them and loved all the kids. She let everyone
pat her. I was afraid she would be so skiddish and terrified that she would pull just to find a place to
hide, but she was just the opposite. Once she looked at the bottom shelf and thought she could climb in
it. I think she thought it was a crate or something but just came right out. She was so good for her
shots. I was so proud of her... There was two boxer puppies there. One a year or so and one nine
weeks old. So darn cute. I almost hated to leave. I loved seeing that tail of hers going a mile a minute.
2/4/07 - Hi all. Just wanted to let the group know that Jerrica is progessing slowly. For the first time
when I
came home from church today she stepped out of her crate to check me out. Of course, then back in
but that is a first. I am going to bake her a cake when she comes out of the crate on her own when I
call her. I think she might know her name. When I have her out and call her name she looks at me.
We are going to Petco today to get her shots updated. Do you think having another dog in the house
might bring Jerrica around faster? Not that I want to rush her, but I read the other updates and Major
seems so much better then Jerrica. I was thinking of asking my Brother or a friend to bring their dog
over? Will let you know how things go today at Petco.
2/1/07 - In the morning after we come back from our walk she loves to explore the house. She comes
into the house and runs to her crate. Then she comes back out and walks down the hallway into the
kitchen then back to her crate. Then back out again and comes into the living room where she sees me
and then runs back to the crate. Then back out again and again comes looking for me and once she
sees me back to the crate. This goes on until I have to go to work and then I gate her in the hall way so
she can go to her crate and walk the hallway during the day. I was feeding her in the crate but now
make her come to the kitchen which I have to pull on the leash and bring her to the dish I then leave her
in peace she will run back to the crate, but does come right back to eat. The funny thing is when I come
home I will call her and she will peek around the corner but will not come to me. I swear her tail is
wiggling a little but can not really see because she is so far back in the crate. As first when I noticed this
I thought she was shaking but really not sure but she will not leave that crate on her own. Hoping some
day she will. After our night walk she will not leave her crate. Sometimes I go get her and bring her in
the living room and just trying patting her, but as soon as she can pull away she runs back to the crate.
This has been my first week and I think its going good.
1/29/07 - Good morning All: We had a relative good day and night. She has no use for me right now.
But she has the most controllable bladder I have ever seen. I finally got her to eat half her dinner out in
the kitchen last night but did notice that she kept looking around. It then dawned on me that I wonder if
she was feed in her crate. Throughout the day when we got home tried to take her out but not luck.
Fed her dinner at 5pm and then at 7pm took her for a walk around the block and got her to pee. She
did pretty good walking. Took her out once more at 11pm but nothing. Then in her crate for bedtime.
Not a peep out of her until 3am and she was banging against the door. So I got up and took her out
but nothing. So back in again until I got up at 6:30. Feed her in her crate this morning and she ate the
whole bowl. We then went for a walk and she did both her business. She is now back in her crate.
Not closed so she could come out be elects to not to. I do not think she knows how to bark
1/28/07 - My new foster for 2007 arrived today from a puppy mill. She is so scared her personality
has not been seen yet. Right now she has no trust in humans so would rather be in her crate then with
me. I did get
her to eat tonight and I did get a few wiggles which tells me she wants to learn what life is really about.
Every once in awhile she will come out of her crate to see if I am still here but goes right back. She is
really so cute and soft and once we put a few pounds on her she will be a really beautiful girl. Keep an
eye on this girl. She could just be the one you are waiting for.
