UPDATE 3/12/08 - Well where has the time gone?  Jake has already been with us a whole year and
so much has happened.  Jake has been a challenge at times but it has all worked out.  He lost his fawn
companion, Zoey, to cancer in December.  That was sad for everyone involved, including Jake.  Jake
really hasn't been the same since.  It was unexpected, as cancer usually is.  Zoey was only 6 and was
diagnosed with Lymphosarcoma, and within weeks she was gone.  Jake had trouble adjusting.  He
just barks for you to play around the clock.  We give him one walk a day, and try to keep him
entertained but its not the same as having another canine companion.  Other than that Jake is doing
well.  He is healthy.  He is going for his annual checkup in one week.  He eats well, and is active.  He
now weighs about 80 lbs. although he thinks he is a 20lb lap dog.  He is such a loveable, handsome,
affectionate dog that just wants to be everyone's friend. Als, the IQ level on this dog is overwhelming.
He is so smart. He know's the kids by name if you were to ask him where they are. Each of his toys
has its own name to be called and whatever you ask for he will be sure to bring it to you, getting it
right the first time. There are times he gets a little too protective, even with some of my son's friends
when they come over.  I usually have the kids give Jake a treat and explain to them that they should
just pet him for a second b/c that is all Jake wants.  Jake likes to be ackowledged when someone
walks into the house.  If he is not acknowledged he just sits there and barks at you.  I would like to
express my sincerest thanks to Second Chance Boxer Rescue for giving us Jake.  Jake has truly
become a part of our family, and we couldn't ask for a better dog!

UPDATE 5/4/07 -  Well its that time again.  Time is just flying by, 2 months already.  I am a recent
graduate at the Collegiate Canines School for obedience training.  I received a diploma and
everything.  I am doing well at my home.  Everyone loves having me around and I also love them.  My
playmate Zoey and I are a great pair.  We can never get enough of each other. Every now and then I
try to help her eat her dinner but my mom takes it away.  Zoey doesn't seem to mind so I didn't think
it was a bad idea.  Oh well.  Mom thinks I am getting a little bit on the heavy side.  But I just like
food.  Well hope everyone is well.  I will. be in touch.  Lots of kisses to my foster mommy, Elaina!

UPDATE 4/3/07 - Hello everyone!  I just wanted to check in to let everyone know that I am doing
great.  I have settled in nicely.  I am going to doggy classes and I am an A+ student.  My sister Zoey
and I are having so much fun keeping each other company.  We have a huge backyard to race around
and we like to play tag.  I have my own pillow to sleep on but at night I like the big bed my mom and
dad sleep in.  They don't mind because I am just too cute to resist.  I went to the vet for a little cough
and I weigh a ton, 75 pounds to be exact.  Its all that good food, but don't worry its not that recalled
stuff.  I am fed once in the morning and once at night and I am loving the stuff.  I am on a raw diet
mixed with a little kibble and its great.  I lick my bowl clean.  Oh, I almost forgot to mention the kids.
They are awesome with me.  I won them over, BIG TIME!  They love having me around, and every
night when its time to quiet down, the kids cuddle with me on the my pillow and watch television.
Hope all is well with everyone!!I will be in touch!

UPDATE 3/5/07 - Well it has only been a day since my departure from my foster home.  I am finally
at my final destination.  This family fell in love with me at first site, who wouldn't?  I have a new four
legged companion and her name is Zoey.  Zoey is a pretty 5 1/2 year old fawn boxer.  She was very
accepting of me.  She would be crazy not too.  I am a very charming, gentle, and loving individual. I
start my day with a big sloppy kiss to my new mommy so she knows I am up and ready to start my
day.  Then we all go out for a morning pee and a breath of fresh air.  When we come in everyone eats
breakfast, even the kids.  The first day was exhausting b/c I just played and played with Zoey and the
kids.  The kids are George who is 9, Allen who is 7, and Rylee who is 2. I will be in touch soon.  I
have a busy schedule ahead of me.  I start a new obedience class on Wednesday.  They tell me its
playgroup but they just want to see how obedient I am and to refresh my obedience skills.  Well catch
up with everyone later.  Lots of kisses to Elaina, I miss you and thank you for everything you did for
me.

3/5/07 - Jake has been adopted!

2/22/07 - Mr. Jake went for his check-up tonight. He is fit as a fiddle! Jake is now current with rabies
and  distemper vaccination. I cannot understand why anyone would let this jem go. He is a perfect guy.

Everyone at the vet's office just loved him.  His weight is just under 70 pounds. After all the
excitement he is snoozing on the couch.

He is so funny at bedtime. His fav thing is to sit on my bed after lights out and just look out the
windows. he sits up very straight and watches for about 20 minutes or so.  Once he is convinced we
are safe, he settles in for the night.

He is a very attentive watch dog. He provides a very calming additon to our home as he will to yours.
remember this guy loves children and will take good care of you and your family. Won't you please
give this wonderful dog a chance at having a forever home?

2/20/07 - I am a good guy. I am just a typical boxer boy who is low key, loving and gentle. I like long
walks, playing outside, and cuddling on the couch while you watch TV. I am the kind of guy who is
not afraid to show affection. I will shower you with hugs and kisses when you come home. I am a
great listener and I am happy just to spend my day just being with you. I really don't ask for much just
a place to call home forever.  When I hear how beautiful you think I am it makes me wiggle and
wiggle..
I can be left alone in the house alone and do not get into any trouble.I don't mark inside and know
counters, coffee tables and the trash are off limits. I am the kind of guy who really likes children and I
know to be gentle when they are near.

I go into a crate with a little push but it is not my favorite place to sleep and it is really not necessary
because I can be trusted 100% to always behave.  I bark only when I hear people at the front door
and stop when I'm told its okay. Given a chance, I'll show you that I will take good care of my family.

Right now I am pretty confused at all these changes but I am getting used to my new home, yard and
playmate. Oh, I almpost forgot to mention that I have really good table manners. I am not messy when
I eat or drink. I do snore just the slightest honestly...I promise you won't need ear plugs. Please
consider taking me home and letting me be the new man in your life. I promise your mother will like
me too.

Regards,

Jake, one handsome boxer

2/17/07 - Jake is being surrendered to rescue today after 2 years with his last home as they do not
feel they have enough time for two dogs anymore. Updates & new pictures soon from his foster home.

UPDATE 7/17/05 - It's July and that means it's the Summer of Jake. Never have I seen a dog love to
play outside as much as Jake Boxer (A last name was given by our kids). If we're outside BBQing,
Jake wants to be by your side. I'm still convinced it's because he hopes I'll get sloppy and drop a
steak or some chicken! He is now able to stay in our yard under voice command, with a few
exceptions, like to run next door and give out kisses to the neighbors! Jake has come a long way since
moving to Casa Fox. He is more relaxed, although he still barks at anyone that walks in front of our
house, or who may have a strange sounding car or truck. He is calmer and more relaxed inside, and
seldom chews anything other than his toys. My advice to anyone who is thinking about adopting a
boxer is DO IT! They are the most awesome dogs. We'll see you with another update sometime this
Fall.

UPDATE 5/2/05 - Jake is awesome! He has completely adjusted to living in a new home with our 2
young boys, a retired racing greyhound, and 4 cats...although the cats still haven't adjusted to him!
The only problem we've had with Jake has occured in the past 2 weeks...all of a sudden he loves to
chew our couch! So now when he has to be left alone we crate hima nd all is well. He actually likes
the crate and I think it helps him catch up on his lost sleep! Jake is ALWAYS on the go...I've never
met a dog that loves to play...or that can play as hard and long as Jake. He has brought a great deal
of joy to our lives and we're happy he's a member of our family.

UPDATE 4/8/05 - Well it looks like it's time for another update on Jake. The question is....where do
I begin? Jake's been with us for only a couple of months, but it feels like he's been a part of the family
forever. Jake LOVES to play...squeeky toys, nylabones, and tug-ropes. Not to mention the kids
stuffed animals, tupperware, or anything else he thinks looks like a toy! Jake LOVES the cats...they
still DON'T love HIM...but that doesn't stop him from trying. He's a trooper! Jake recently completed
his obedience classes. He did as well as can be expected for such a social dog. If they had voted, he
would have been voted MOST FRIENDLY! If he were a child I would be getting notes sent home
about his excessive talking and socializing at the expence of his studies. We just think it's just a shame
the other dogs didn't share his enthusiasm for being friends. Once home after a long day at school,
Jake loves nothing more than to curl up on the couch and catch a few winks. After re-charging his
batteries, it's back to pla

UPDATE 3/02/05 - It has been one month and we can't imagine our lives without Jake!!  He brings
lots of energy and love to our home.  He just can't get enough of cuddling on the couch or playing with
our young sons.  He loves to play in the snow, but doesn't seem to like rain.  We began obedience
school a couple of weeks ago and he has obviously been in the past.  He is so funny to watch because
he is so social and doesn't understandthat not all dogs want to meet him!!  There is one dog in
particular that is extremely aggressive (private training weekly with our instructor) and Jake doesn't
seem to notice the bared teeth and the growling. He just sees a potential playmate!!  We have taken
him on a Saturday outing to Danvers, MA for lunch with my sister and shopping at Costco.  He
insisted on sitting in my lap in the front passenger seat most of the way!!  Not very comfortable for me
but he seemed quite happy!!  Jake has put on a few pounds and looks very sharp.  He has begun
some submissive peeing when Bill arrives home from work and our instructor is helping us to deal with
it in a positive manner.  The cats have still not warmed up to Jake, that will take longer than we
expected, but he has been working well with the "leave it" command where they are concerned. As
expected, our senior greyhound has perked up a bit, he never wanted to go outside before unless
absolutely necessary and now he is up every time Jake is going out-we think he is afraid he will miss
something!  They take naps next to each other and play at times, though not as often as Jake would
like!  Overall, a very successful month!  We just love him!

UPDATE 2/10/05 - Jake is doing very
well in his new home.  Our two young sons are happy to
have a dog to play with as our retired older Greyhound
is not a player!  Jake loves to play with his tug rope
and with the hedgehog and loves to play in the snow!
He is eating well and looks to be gaining a bit of
weight.  He thinks he is a lap dog and

02/02/05 Jake has been adopted!!!

2/1/05 - Jake is such a wonderful, loveable, sweet boy!  He went visiting with me last night to my
friend's house for dinner & he was an instant hit!  Jake loved snuggling & kissing my friend & her two
daughters.  He is definitely happiest when he can curl up on your lap on the couch--I'm sure he will
make a great bed warmer too! :)  They all fell in love with him & said they would keep him in a
second if they had room for another dog!  He also enjoyed playing with their 1 year old Collie until the
excitement wore him out.

I did discover though as Jake felt more comfortable & relaxed that he does not understand how to
live with cats.  At first at my house he seemed to have little interest, but he was also pretty nervous &
unsure of himself.  Well, last night at my friend's house Jake saw their cat & went into crazy
play-mode!  He did not want to kill the cat, but he sure was too fixated on it & would not let up even
after getting smacked with the claw.  Unfortunately my years of "cat testing" dogs tells me that he will
just be way too intense to actually live with cats.

Jake came in depressed & very skinny, I'm sure he just does not understand why he was left at a
shelter after 2 years with his family.  I could tell last night when he met my friend's kids that he really
needs children in his life again as he seemed to perk up around them & was so content.  I am working
on trying to get some weight on him without upsetting his tummy too much right now.  He has started
eating better now, so hopefully he will be feeling better soon too.

Jake is one special boxer looking for that special family for him.  Is that you?  Hurry so you do not
lose out on Jake!

01/26/05 Jake was an owner surrender to a local shelter. It says his family was moving. The shelter
gave us a call and asked if we could help Jake as they were getting full. Jake seems to be super
sweet. According to his surrender papers he has lived with young kids, he was allowed free roam of
the house where he stayed out of trouble. He loves to ride and just like people. He has never lived
with other dogs but truely enjoys playing with them. Jake has yet to be tested with cats. Jake was
wonderful in the car ride home. He laid down for the ride. Once we got home he did a couple of laps
around the yard. We got him set up in a comfy crate for bedtime. He doesn't seem to be liking it to
much and is letting me know by carrying on. I'm sure he will settle down with a little time.  We will
update you as soon as we get to know him a little better.
