JD
UPDATE 4/9/08 - Juvenile Delinquent, Jack Daniels, John Deere…… nope, we’ve figured out
what J.D. stands for – definitely JUMPING DOG!!!!! Springing, bounding, leaping, jumping, runningâ
€¦ these are his favorite modes of travel, with a few walking strides thrown in. Fortunately he and Sassy
generally know the difference between indoor and outdoor play! They wrestle, taking turns being on
top or upside down under the other, nibbling necks, legs, ears….we remove their collars in the height
of “battle to reduce risk. Our little man has settled in very nicely, assuming all the duties, rights,
responsibilities and privileges of a Belly Acres Farm Dog. We have returned him to the crate while we
are out – it is just better, he willingly goes “into his pen on command and does not pant
himself into dehydration- the crate is a small price to pay for the benefits of farm life. JD’s zingy
spirit and unavoidable presence have blessed our home and family life. With continued training and
positive reinforcement his obedience has improved 100 fold! He graduated from his Family Companion
class, and we re-upped for another series to help polish his skills. He is a tad headstrong with selective
hearing on occasion (What boxer is not?), but he will soon respond and come when called. We’ve
had him off lead hiking in the state forest and he behaved beautifully- he made the most of the
opportunity to stretch out his legs, but came back when called. We are looking forward to more off
lead adventures on trails, dirt roads and other uncharted territory, when J.D. and Sassy can continue to
grow together as the Belly Acres pack. Another SCBR success story!

UPDATE 11/27/07 -   4 weeks since J.D. joined us here at Belly Acres! He has fit in so well, it seems
he’s been here forever. He loves the routine of the “farm chores every day (morning
feeding, walking the fence line and turning the horses out, turning the horses back in before sunset, and
the evening feeding). J.D. & Sassy (his brindle sister and previous SCBR adoption) get along great,
although it is still unclear if one actually dominates the other- they play so well together. J.D. is the
sweetest little guy and is very affectionate. The first 3 weeks he was here, he had human company
pretty much 24/7, but everyone is now back to work so he and Sassy spend weekday work days alone
in the house together uncrated with no disasters so far. He was being crated each day and the only
evidence of his stress was a huge puddle of drool, but the day that he escaped with only the bottom
latch of the door undone and an unimaginably tight fit through the doorway encouraged us to try them
both out (we  hope their good behavior will continue, but are fully aware that bad behavior may surprise
us one day).
J.D. is such a ball of energy! He loves to play, but is gentle with everyone, including the cats. He is
blossoming with all the running, jumping (lots of it, just like his foster mom said!), and wrestling! He
HAS decided he likes furniture, especially the bed each night between mom and dad and alongside
Sassy- he is also learning from her the joys of burrowing under the covers!
We're on schedule with our well established SCBR adoption routine – bring home a wonderful baby,
introduce to our vet, get licensed, register for obedience, and order up a custom made coat from Horse
Creations- Brenda makes wonderful dog coats that keep our boxers cozy in New England winters!
Our obedience classes will start in a few weeks.... Lynn will be helping another SCBR boxer earn his
graduation certificate!

UPDATE 10/6/07  - JD has now been with us six days- if you ask him, it has been six years! He seems
to love everything about his life here, but that has been our experience with every boxer that has lived
here at Belly Acres. His attitude and personality are sweet, self-assured and confident – if this dog
had any baggage, he left it in Maine – it sure didn’t come with him! His affectionate, sweet, and
playful ways make it impossible not to love him. And, as attitude counts for everything, he is 15 feet tall
– just ask him!  Boxer course 101- Introduction to Horses and Farm Chores – is going fabulously,
and he is expected to ace the course with Sassy (SCBR November ’05) as his tutor. It is comical
to see these two floppy brindle cuties side-by-side - -  she towers over him (and in our experience, we
felt she was a small boxer!). They are great buds and play wonderfully together - Sassy can finally be
the imp she has always wanted to be and instigate full-speed-ahead boxer play! JD has a spirit and
attitude that makes him ready for anything at a moment’s notice. He is gentle with our four cats- his
assessment as “good with cats was right on. We look forward to a lifetime with this cuddly,
affectionate wiggleworm.

9/30/07 - JD has been adopted!

9/20/07 - JD better find a home soon or I will not want to let him go! LOL   He is such a nice boy & he
is very funny too.  He has started "talking" to me now when he wants something & will try to mouth the
words & whine & yawn, all the while looking at me with those droopy eyes & mushy face!  If that
doesn't work, he will huff at me a few times & then I may get a paw too. :)     He is getting along great
with my dogs & cat & does not bother the cage of birds either.  He is perfectly house trained & will ask
to go out.  He does not like his crate, but with some coaxing he will go in & does fine when in there (he
drools a lot, but doesn't have accidents or break out).  He is not nervous at all with me anymore &
definitely got over his anxiety of being at the shelter.  I think he just had to learn to trust again & de-
stress.

JD gives the funniest kisses! He will not come up on the couch, but likes to put his front feet in my lap &
rest his head on my chest.  Then due to his really up-turned chin (with the boxer underbite) his tongue
sneaks up & gets me every time when I don't expect it! LOL  He loves to have his face petted & be
talked goofy to.  He is just a really nice boy.  He is at that perfect age too as he has plenty of spunk in
him, but he knows when to lay down & just relax & is happy to do that too.  He's the perfect size too,
just an all around wonderful boxer boy!!   What are you waiting for?  JD is ready to bounce into your
heart like he has mine!

8/28/07 - JD moved to my house for fostering about 3 weeks ago & he has settled right in like he lives
here!  He gets along great with my 2 older boxers and my cat and is just the nicest boy!  He likes to
give lots of kisses & he is so cute with his mushy-face.  He is perfect in his crate when I am not home &
will go in without any trouble.  JD is also housebroken & has not had any issues in that area either.  He
loves to go for rides in the car & gets all excited when I get out his leash.

I do think JD is part kangaroo though as he can jump straight up about 4 feet in the air!  LOL  He does
this when he is outside & done with his business & ready to come in:  He will jump in front of the gate,
straight up & down!  He doesn't try to get over the gate, just seems to think I will notice he is done
more quickly when he does this! LOL

Though JD does get along with other dogs, he does take a little bit to warm up to new dogs.  I don't
see him being your big city, dog park or doggie daycare type of a dog, but he would be fine living with
another dog.  He is good with people but since he can be startled a little bit more easily than some
dogs, he would be best with kids 10 years & up.

JD really is a great dog that just takes a little bit of time to settle into a new situation.  He will make a
great buddy for someone out there!

8/5/07 - This is JD as he is now. He isn't too stressed any more. He puts his nose to the ground and
"snuffles" along. He bounces sideways with the springs in his feet. He is 5 years old according to his
paperwork and is neutered and up to date on his shots. He does love to snuggle, and will spend a lot of
time on his back if you have a comfortable rug for him to "squiggle" around on. He is not much of a
furniture dog. He might get on a chair if coaxed. He will counter-surf if given the chance. He does sit on
command and will give his paw.

7/31/07 -  I don't know much about JD yet. I don't have his paperwork yet, so that will fill in some of
the blanks. So far he is spending a lot of time in the crate, but not as much today as yesterday. He is
beginning to relax just a bit. He is eating well. He and Sam met, again, and when he started getting
"stiffy" I called him
on it and he settled back and didn't start anything. Both were wearing leashes, but they were dragging.
He has yet to play with Sam. Without a leash he bounces around the yard and shows off the "springs in
his feet".
Rose put a foot in his face and he went after her! That was not a good thing!! She has stitches from her
lump removal yesterday and we don't want them broken open. No damage this time.

He appears to be house trained as he always wants to get right outside as soon as he is let out of the
crate.
He doesn't like the crate and drools profusely! He does settle down after awhile and doesn't fuss too
much.

He is a very handsome reverse brindle with very little white.

Transport Comments:

7/29/07 -
I just dropped JD in Springfield, MA with Cathy…  headed on his way to Julie.  What a
great little guy.  Very, very handsome…  Ralph said he was just starting to settle in and show some
confidence, and then he had to go on his way.

JD rode in the front of my van with me, drooling and panting until he relaxed a bit.  He let me pet him
and just touch him almost the whole time.  He was interested in my girls, but they had been instructed to
sit back & mind their own business. He strikes me as a friendly guy.  I bet he’ll make a good pet
for some lucky family!!
