IZZY
NOTE ** Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as
retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parents, etc.

UPDATE 11/6/07 - Izzy is just amazing...not the sharpest tool in the shed, but soooo lovable!  Our
daughter, Vreeland and I took a train up to Boston.Spent the night at my sisters and then she and her
daughter and Vree and I drove to Oxford, ME to pick up Izzy. Izzy and the girls went to the outlets and
shopped! Izzy's first night with us was at my sister's house.  Vree and I rented a car and drove back to
New Jersey.  Izzy kept slipping out of his seat belt and crawling into Vree's lap.  Lots of giggles and
belly laughs as we drove home.  When we got home, Izzy was greeted with screams, hugs and tons of
love. As I write this, Izzy is asleep on the couch with his buddy, our beagle, Hoagie.  They are such
goofballs together!  Hoagie was not so please when Izzy came in the door...well, Hoagie wasn't too
please when he realized the Izzy wasn't just visiting.  We had some big fights...no blood just a lot of
vocals and a lot teeth gnashing...I just got worried because I have a house full of little kids and didn't
want them to get in the middle.
On the night I called the dog behavioralist, I was on my computer and at my wits end about their
behavior and Izzy was laying down on the floor and Hoagie was on the couch. Izzy was whinning at
Hoagie to come and play and finally Hoagie hopped off the couch...crouched down with his butt in the
air...tail up and wagging.  WE TURNED THE CORNER!  These two knuckle heads played for hours
and pretty much haven't stopped except for eating and sleeping.  Hoagie now grooms Izzy's ears every
night.
I have introduced Izzy to our family cat Squirmy.  Izzy is very curious, but everytime he wants to sniff
Squirmy he puts his big old paw on him to slow him down.  Squirmy doesn't like that.  Hopefully with
time these two will be able to be in the same room together.
The best is how Izzy is with our kids.  They are so excited about our new family member!  Izzy's tongue
is as big as our 20 month old daughter's face...they are eye to eye in height...Izzy does drive by's on
Ruby's face.  I'll pull her out of the high chair and turn my back to clean her up and I hear the click click
click of Izzy's nails and Ruby's shriek of delight...Izzy sticks out his tongue and cleans Ruby's face.
We use the gentle leader to walk Izzy and Hoagie.  I put Ruby in the stroller and Nolan (our five year
old daughter) walks Izzy and I walk Hoagie.  It is some of the most wonderful time in the world...Nolan
feels like such a big girl walking her really big dog and we get a chance to spend some time together.
Izzy came to us already wonderful.  We've been working on coming on command and not to beg at the
dinner table.  I am happy obedience training was required because Izzy and Hoagie are benefitting from
it.  It also has been great lesson for our kids to learn about responsiblity and what it means to take care
of our family members.
Izzy's doing great health wise...lots of exercise and play.  He and Hoagie get walked daily and play in
the yard most of the day.  He plays tag with the kids when they get home from school.  he's eating
Science diet 2 cups a day and loves it.  His day is full of snacks from the kids (behind my back) and
frozen cheese filled kongs at night.  Life is good!
My favorite line out of this whole expereience...Nolan yelled from the living room one day, "Mom,
Hoagie's trying to get a piggy back ride from Izzy!"  Out of the mouth of babes!
Izzy happily climbs in his crate, when I call out to bed to bed...which is just about to happen because it
is time for the boys to go outside for one last tinkle and then to bed to bed for all in the house.
Thank you for saving Izzy.  Thank you for our goofy boy.  We couldn't be happier!

10/07 - Izzy has been adopted!

9/23/07 - Izzy came to us from a local shelter.  He was an owner surrender that was surrendered with
his sister Daisy.  He was really anxious to get out of the shelter and go for a ride.  Once we got him
home he had some energy to burn.  He was ready to run and play in the fenced yard.  He ran alone at
first and then with our Newfoundland.  He was great with Bingo and immediately was playing and
having fun.  Izzy was really laid back and would do well with another dog.  He will be neutered this
week and after that will be ready for his forever home.  Could that home be yours?
