HOLLISTER - Standard Poodle
|
UPDATE 2/26/08 - Holly is doing great in most areas. She has alot of energy and wants to play all
the time esp. with Benji. When they relax now, they take up the whole loveseat. Holly, about 2 weeks
ago, decided if it was ok for him to be on the sofa that it would be ok for her to do the same. We have
got her into a pretty good daily routine and it seems to work for her and Benji. We missed the last 2
training classes this month due to a snow storm and the next to a power outage. Holly is very difficult to
train and we were behind other dogs in the class. She was very distracted in class by the other dogs
and decided she wasn't food motivated. Well I have been doing more training at home and she is slowly
getting it. We will finish training class sometime next month. we will probably join in another class
midway to finish up. We had her and benji groomed last week and the groomer said she was very easy.
She has become more affectionate and seems to like laying on my lap. Can't wait to train her with the
collar and the fencing, that should be interesting.
UPDATE 1/22/08 - Holly is doing great. She is pretty much house broken now. She is getting along
great with benji our 9 year old standard poodle. They play well and roughhouse quite a bit. Holly feels
at home here now and wags her tail alot. She is still a little skiddish with different noises but much less
than in the beginning. When we got her she had worms but a trip to the vets and a few pills took care of
that. since then she has been healthy and happy here with us. we started obedience training on the 10th
and she is doing ok. she is very distracted when trying to train her with benji around, if I separate them
she will not pay attention. she always needs to have him nearby. during the times we are not home she is
crated and will go in and out of it when we are with her.I have given a few baths since we got her which
she does not like at all. I think I get more wet than she does. we are very happy with her and I think she
is happy with us!!!
12/22/07 - Hollister has been adotped!
12/13/07 - Miss Holly is doing really well. She has improved so much since she has been here. She
loves the company of the other dogs and enjoys playing and running around. At first when she was in
the house she seemed a little nervous of noises. She was not really sure of how to act but now she is
doing really well and is comfortable just laying around or exploring all that is new to her. She has
warmed up to the family and enjoys being loved and returns the love with kisses. When she first came
to the house she was scared of going down the stairs but we worked that out really quick and now she
is a pro. We do feel that Holly would like to have a forever home that has another dog or has a person
home alot to be with her. She is a very cute loving dog that deserves a wonderful family to buy her
christmas presents and spoil her.
11/10/07 - Abercrombie and Hollister made it to the vets last week, both were brought up to date on
their
shots, were heartworm and lyme negative. Both girls were also spay. Neither missed a beat.
Abercrombie has an ear infection that we are working on clearing up. Both girls were very well
behaved for everyone at the vets. These girls are really starting to show their colors, they are very cute.
They are warming up slowly, learning the routine and trusting more and more everyday. I think both
dogs will do well with another dog, cats or kids. Both are going to make some families very lucky.
11/3/07 - Hollister arrived in rescue on Monday. These dogs have had a rough start of it. Born in a
puppymill in PA, she was used for breeding there. Bought by a man that wanted to make some quick
money and brought to Maine. They arrived in Maine, in January. They were kept in a barn with indoor
outdoor runs. Never taken to a vet, never recieved any shots. After 10 months when none of the
poodles had produced a litter it was time for them to go. Luckily we heard about them. A friend took a
trip the same day and brought home 2 of the 4 females. Nice dogs obviously shy. Both dogs were very
dirty and matted. So I made a quick stop at a local groomer. The lady was so nice and even though it
was time to close, spent over 2 hours, bathing, shaving and clipping the two girls. Boy did they feel
good, you could tell how happy they were. I could tell no one had ever groomed them before as they
were very nervous but both acted so brave. At the groomers they meet 2 cats, that they really enjoyed
and about 10 dogs. No issues at all. Once home both dogs were introduced to their crates, both dogs
settled in for the night, not a peep. They ate a good meal and kept their crates clean all night. It was a
plesant surprise not to have a mess in the morning. Everyday these girls get better and better. More to
come.
