UPDATE 10/19/07 - Hi Everyone,
Foxy is trying very hard to be a good girl. Although she still has some issues with authority. She nipped
one of our children when they accidentally fell on her, but no one was injured. She opens the door to
her crate by herself every night to go to bed. She has stopped trying to escape through our fence and
she no longer jumps.
For Halloween she's going to be a dalmation!
UPDATE 9/13/07 - Foxy seems to have settled down again, though we don't know for how long. We
are still looking for a placement for her and haven't had much luck since we've told everyone she has
bitten.
She's finally accepted the crate and enters it on command. She still has problems with authority, but
hasn't peed in the house in a few weeks.
We are concerned however that when my husband travels for business again, she will regress into a
misbehaving young lady.
We are still working to rehabilitate her with daily training sessions at home.
UPDATE 8/21/07 - Hello Everyone,
Foxy is still here in Wells. She has bitten two more times since meeting George. First me, then our
two-year old son. We've struggled with separation anxiety this last month as Foxy has been very
destructive. We do have a stronger crate for her--which she cannot escape from-- and she's been
unable to do damage when we are away. However, if we leave the room, she's no holds barred and
will shred anything within her reach.
We are still trying to decide what to do about her. We've decided that we can't keep a dog that will
bite people. I would like to find a good home for Foxy, but she really needs someone to take her with
them, or stay home with her. We have spoken with AWS and George from All About Dogs (who
believes that Foxy's owners need the training. Maybe he's right, but I think she's just learned to be
agressive when she's upset.) as well as the veterinary clinic in Wells. We are really hoping Foxy doesn't
need to be put down, but I would hate to see her seriously hurt someone.
Obedience training might help, but it won't help this stubborn girl to be good when she's frustrated.
Foxy is very, very well behaved on a lead and obeys commands quite well.
I'll keep everyone updated on her status, but if someone would like to take her, I certainly wouldn't
object.
UPDATE 7/20/07 - Hi Everyone,
Foxy is doing much better since her training with George at All About Dogs. She still countersurfs
when she can, but she hasn't even nipped at anyone. Hallelujah! She has gone from a skinny,
defensive, biter to a sweet, well mannered young lady. She is taking walks everyday on a leash--we've
found that she behaves better on a leash. She still acts weird by trying to attack the lawn mower, the
wheelbarrow, and other wheeled objects. It makes us wonder what her life used to be like.
Her health is wonderful. We're planning to take her for a walk on the beach as soon as it stops raining.
I can't remember if we mentioned this in the last update, but George says Foxy is a Boxer/American
Bulldog mix.
That's it for now. We're still using the training techniques we've learned and we're hoping she'll be
completely trustworthy before long.
UPDATE 6/28/07 - Hi Everyone,
Foxy has had a few setbacks since arriving in Maine. She has bitten twice--once bad--and has been
peeing in the house. So, we took her to see George from All About Dogs here in Kennebunk, ME.
He gave Foxy and evaluation and said that there is still hope for her, but to never leave her alone with
small children. We will continue working with George and his techniques as we have already seen vast
improvements in her demeanor. He also said that he believes she's American Bulldog and Boxer mixed.
Foxy has gained another 12 pounds and we now actually have to watch her weight. She is behaving
very well on her leash and when she pulls is easily redirected.
We'll let you know how she progresses.
UPDATE 5/19/07 - Hi Everyone!
Foxy has adjusted wonderfully to her new home here in Southern Maine. Thanks to Aunt Michele for
picking Foxy up in upstate New York and driving 8 hours to Maine.
Foxy and Lexi get along great, but prefers hanging out with her new boys. We've found that she
absolutely hates her crate and waits very patiently for Mom to come back from work.
She has gained 10 pounds and the vet says another 5 to 10 would be good for her. Her health is much
improved thanks to the care and nurturing she received while at Cheryl's house in foster care.
We had to put obedience training on hold due to an unexpected surgery on our 4 year old son. Once
he has fully recovered I will sign her up again.
There's not enough room on the web to tell all her stories, but the best one is her behavior with her
metal water bucket. We don't know why, but Foxy gets really weird with this bucket. She growls at it,
pounces on it, puts her head in it and throws it up in the air.
Don't be surprised to see her on AFV.
4/20/07 - Foxy has been adopted!
4/1/07 - Hello everyone my name is Foxy. My Foster Dad calls me Foxy Lady. I arrived to my new
foster home yesterday after a very long ride in the car. I first want to thank Eva, Mike and his daughter
for giving me a lift to my new place. I was very tired after such a long ride. I took a long nap and than
I felt so much better. I met my foster brother and we played outside for a few hours and I am learning
that the country life is for me. My foster Mom tells me I am very smart. I know basic commands like
sit, stay, down and I even play fetch. I walk pretty well on a leash and I am even house trained. You
can't ask for more than that! I have to tell you though, that I am a Daddy's girl. We like to hang out
together and he cooks really well too. This is good because I have a little weight to put on. Mom is
going to take me to the doctor's next week so that I can be spayed. Mom tells me that after that I will
be all set for my forever family. I am very calm in the house and I really like kids. When my skin
brother came home last night I was all kisses and boxer wiggles. Dad says that he just can not believe
that someone would let a little girl like me go. He thinks that I am a wonderful lady and very pretty to
boot. Well I have to go for now, it is time for me to go outside and play. I will write soon to let you
know how I am doing. Please fill out an application so that we can spend the summer playing and
hanging out. I will write you all soon to let you know how I am doing. Bye for now.
3/26/07 - This is Foxy, she was an owner surrender to a shelter in PA.. our friend Jodi Spector from
AB was there this morning and spotted her. I happened to be on my way to the Vet when we got the
call on
her. :)
Foxy just turned 2 yrs old her B-day is 3/24... Just a side note....I kept talking to her and at first she
was not really responding. I thought she might be deaf ? I knocked on the wall. ....she heard it. I
began to speak spanish to her, she was all wiggles and came over when i asked her to come :)
soo...we have a little latina with us :) She is very sweet and loved the ride in the truck. This is one of
the dogs coming into foster this weekend. More on her once she gets to her foster home.
