10/15/07 - Sweet happy Dixie went home to her new home in Boothbay--and was all wiggles and kisses
for her new family who loved her instantly.
9/29/07 - Dixie had a great time Thursday afternoon--it was the Homecoming Parade! When we went
for a walk there were a hundred people lined up on our side of the street,a dn she got to wiggle her cute
little butt at all of them. Many were entranced by her friendliness, and invited her over for a quick hello
pat. Dixie loves everybody she meets--human or canine. On our return home, a large German Shepherd
strolled over for a quick hello, and she was all wiggle-butt to say hello to him, too. She has discovered
the toy box here at the Riverview, and is providing us with a ton of entertainment with her toys. She
especially likes squeaky toys--th louder the better. She is starting to learn how to retrieve-- learning that
if she brings 'it' back to a human they will play with 'it' with her again! Now if I can just teach her how to
put AWAY all of the toys.....
9/2/07 - Dixie is such a sweetie pie--I am amazed that she hasn't been 'spoken for' already. She really is
a good girl (and since I have learned my lesson and don't leave meat on the counter she hasn't stolen any
lately!) Dixie loves to race around my back yard, but also loves to go for sedate walks on the leash--
and she doesn't pull at all!. She seems to have a special affinity for my husband--when he is on the sofa
she is curled up next to him--and half on him. She and my Beau are getting along great--they sometimes
even eat out of the smae bowl with no growling or other mischief. We have had no acidents in the house,
even on nights when the door to the porch (which is where the doggie door is located) has been closed.
(We have had some chilly nights here in Maine already.) She is a great dog.
8/25/07 - Dixie had her spay staples removed and she was a wonderful patient. She also had a
heartworm test redo so she can get on heartworm preventative--there are still lots of those nasty
mosquitoes here in southern Maine. Dixie is great on the leash--she really doesn't pull at all even with a
regular collar, and she loves her walks and everyone she meets while out and about. She has also met
my cat and seems fine with her, so let's update her as "OK with cats!" Dixie has shown us, however, that
she is so fond of people food, particularly beef, that she will steal it off of the counter top if given a
chance. I've lost my leftovers twice, so I guess I am a slow learner! Dixie is eating like a champ now,
even just plain old dry kibble, so she may gain a few pounds--which she could use. Maybe not, though,
because she has also discovered (now that she is allowed to) that running around and around my back
yard is fun! She is a beautiful little girl who is really coming into her own. Are you ready to make her
your own?
8/15/07 - Dixie had her spay yesterday, and did very well. My vet also did a cardiogram (since the
ssurrendering owner said she had heart problems) and it looked good except for a very mild intermittent
arhythmia. We've contacted her previous vet for more information. The first words out of my vet's mouth
were," It won't take long for you to find a home for this one!" He commented her beauty and her sweet
personality, and wondered why anyone could have gotten rid of her.
Dixie is doing well, although since her spay she hasn't had any appetite, and she is already on the thin
side. Tonight I will try tempting her with some canned dog food, to see if I can get her to eat a little. If
not, tomorrow will be the Riverview classic boiled rice and hamburg, which is always a winner with the
skinny ones!
Dixie has met lots of adults coming and going--here at my house and also at the vets office--and has
greeted everyone with a wag of her little nub. She is so friendly! This little sweetie is quite the catch!
8/14/07 - Dixie has arrived at the Riverview and is not only beautiful, she is sweet and well-mannered!
Her transporters all had wonderful things to say about her, and so do I! She has already met my big
Beau with wagging nub, has learned about the doggie door and does her business outside, and settled
down in the crate for a long night's sleep without a peep! She is so good that she has already earned full
house privileges. She is slender, and hasn't eaten yet but I'm sure that will come soon. Dixie is UTD on
all shots and will be going in for a spay soon . No more puppies for this mama!
8/12/07 FROM SOME OF DIXIE'S TRANSPORT VOLUNTEERS:
"Here is a picture of Dixie from todays transport. She laid on my lap in the back seat all the way to
Augusta, all the while giving the most gentle kisses. When we met Anita in Augusta, she had her children
with her and Dixie was wiggles everywhere. She obviously loves children. She is going to make someone
a wonderful companion. She is an absolutely beautiful, though a little thin Brindle girl!" Kathie
"Dixie is a doll! A very sweet girl! I can’t imagine her owners not wanting her for ANY reason! Was
awesome in the car!" Josh and Jo-anna
