UPDATE 2/2/08 - Hi Dean is doing great and he continues to be joy to have in my life. We continue
to take walks but not as much since the weater has been very cold. Dean's health is great and wants to
play all the time. till next time.
update 12/7/07 - Hi not much to talk about. Dean is healthy and fine we continue to take walks at the
park recently.I took him for a walk after the snow fell last week we went real early in the morning. I let
him off his leash and watched him run and enjoy himself. Dean is a great house and watch dog. I'm very
greatful to have a beautiful Boxer like Dean.
UPDATE 10/9/07 - Wow it's been 4 mos. since I picked up Dean from his foster home. Dean and I
have a great bond and it continues to grow. Whenever I come home from work and pull up in my
driveway I always see his face at my side window happy to see me. We continue to go on walks and
spend quality time with each other. Dean is a wonderful Boxer and I love him dearly. Till next time.
UPDATE 9/12/07 - Dean is well. Dean completed Obedience training in August. Now Dean is more
calm while walking in the parks and in the comunity. Dean continues to be in great health and has no
concerns. Dean just loves to go on rides in the SUV I hate to leave him at home. till next time.
UPDATE 7/17/07 - Hi Im very happy to inform you that Dean is doing great in is new home. Dean has
adjusted to the neighborhood and loves his huge backyard. I often take Dean to Delaware Park for
walks. I recently introduced Dean to my girlfriend's two female Boxers, Stella and Greta and the three
of them get along just fine. Over all Dean is very happy and healthy. I will write more soon.
6/29/07 - Dean has been adopted!
6/20/07 - Dean is doing great here at his foster home. Just wondering why he is still waiting for a call.
He
loves this warm weather and tries to keep up with his foster brother running around in the yard...if it
wasn't for the extra couple of inches Moses has on him. Dean loves his housemates, has even become
better about sharing toys letting them steal them away here and there.
Dean is all boxer, loves attention and greats you with a wiggle. He enjoys car rides and is an excellent
passenger. I have learned that he does not do well in busy settings such as a pet store or doctor's office.
We were escorted to our own "private" waiting room the last time we went!
Dean is a very happy boy to the people and animals he knows and loves. He still wags his tail for me
when
refilling his water bowl or settting his food down. So grateful to have had a second chance from his
scary
and sad days wandering the streets in Ohio and ending up unclaimed at the pound.
5/9/07 - Dean has been making some nice progress with his house manners. He doesn't jump out of
his cozy spot every time he hears a noise in the neighborhood anymore. He is relaxing a little bit more
now that he knows he is safe and loved.
Him and my female Ices AKA: "Mama Bear" have turned over a new leaf. I think she is accepting him
a little more now that she knows he won't love her and leave her with a litter of pups in nine weeks
since his neutering. They are cute to watch. Ices likes to lick his ears and he is so tolerant of her
repetive wet kisses. I have to make her stop!
Dean is just the best listener. He comes in the house everytime I call the dogs in while my boy Moses
just stands there looking at me. Dean lays down when I tell him and comes when I call him. I always
know it's him when I hear his distinctive pitter-patter (due to his slight limp).
My neighbor in the back flooded his pond the other day and created a mudpit in my otherwise (finally)
dried up yard. The three dogs made piggies out of themselves so I washed them. Dean was great in
the bathtub. He enjoyed the warm water and shampoo massage. He didn't try to escape once!
Dean will make a great addition to someone's home. He is a real easy dog...housetrained,
affectionate, appreciative and obedient.
4/20/07 - Dean was neutered on Tuesday. The surgery was very successful. He had his undescended
and descended testicle removed as well as (at least) two teeth. He had some hair impacting the
gumline. The doctor was unsure if this was due to trauma or if it is just a "boxer" jaw/gum thing.
Although he does have some scarring and asymmetry on his right shin...so maybe this poor buddy did
have some bad luck in the past.
He does not appear to be effected by the decrease in dentition as he is chewing on toys and biscuits as
if nothing is different. His breath is much improved now. He had a case of the Missy's before...I
couldn't bare to let him lick my hand before because it would leave an odor. Now his breath is better
than the two resident dogs here. I love letting this affectionate guy kiss and lick me now!
Dean's incisions are healing and he will be ready for his family to come find him soon. He really is a
great dog. He is very smart and listens the best! Someone has trained him well. Walking remains a
challenge. I try to walk him after sunset when there is less activity in the neighborhood. He has no
accidents in the house. He loves the company of my boxer boy, but has some issues with my female. I
think they got off on the wrong foot when he arrived here un-neutered to her in heat! So I wouldn't rule
out female dogs as future "sisters". Food issues have decreased, however Dean would do best with an
experienced boxer owner.
3/29/07 - Dean has an appointment for another pre-neuter check-up Tuesday the 3rd. Hopefully he
will be able to get neutered very soon because he is anxiously awaiting his forever family.
It's been fun seeing his collar getting tighter and adjusting it, then getting tighter again as he gains much
needed weight. I stopped his afternoon feeding as he has achieved his target weight gain.
I would suggest that Dean's family does not have little children or dominant other dogs. Dean gets
along well with my two dogs, however there have been some incidents with toys and food/treats.
Specifically when he is chewing a nylabone (the "non-break apart and kill dogs" kind) and a dog
approaches him. He may get a little territorial. Same thing with food, he should be fed in a gated off
room until. He has never shown any aggression with me in these matters. Hopefully these behaviors
will continue to lessen which they have been.
Another thing that will have to be considered is his openess to people coming in the house. He is
somewhat
protective of his domicile, like many of our 4-legged friends. When someone new comes in the house,
it
would be a good idea to keep Dean away from the door, perhaps behind a baby gate until he
recognizes that
this is a welcome guest and a friend.
We continue to work on his walking skills, he pulls and he gets jumpy when he sees a neighborhood
dog or
person out and about. He just can't put those footloose and fancy-free days of being a stray behind
him!
Dean is a lovey dog though, so eager to please his people and a snuggler with his dog friends too. He
just loves attention and tries his hardest to be a good boy.
3/4/07 - Dean has been with me for two weeks now. He is a wonderful dog to have. He went to the
vet and got a good check-up, just has to gain 10lbs before he can be neutered and ready for his family
to take him home.
He gets along great with both of my dogs, even my socially-challenged female. Boy, was it exhausting
keeping an eye on them when he first arrived and she was coming out of heat! Dean is quite the
persistent casanova!
Dean is a wonderful watch-dog. Very alert to sounds and people in the neighborhood. He amazed
one of my girlfriends when she came over - "A boxer that barks?!".
Dean likes to cuddle with me on the couch or in bed, however he will resort to his dog bed or the floor
when told to "lay down".
The only challenge I've had with Dean is his eating and food agression. I have been feeding him away
from the other dogs. Watch out if a kibble drops on the floor. Hopefully his "street dog" ways will
subside once he knows that he is going to be fed regularly and does not have to guard or fight for
himself.
2/17/07 - Hello to all, I have a new member of the SCBR family. Linda White and her husband (I
believe) picked Dean up from a pound in OH yesterday. A special thanks to them, it was a wintery
drive thanks to the lake effect off of Erie. Dean was picked up as a stray.
This guy is in pretty bad shape. He is emaciated...could use 15 pounds on his medium frame. All of his
vertebrae and ribs are prominent and his hips are jutting out. Maybe it's my imagination, but he appears
to look a little better after two meals and some water. He is un-neutered and very interested in my
female here. He has one undescended testicle as well.
He is a really sweet, handsome boy. Brindle with a white belly, legs and muzzle. Very friendly with
people and dogs. Knows some commands such as "sit" and does not mind his crate so much. Not sure
about the house training part. I will send some pics ASAP.
