UPDATE 6/24/08 - It's been a whole year since we adopted Brindle and he's such a joy.
His name has kind of morphed into 'Boo Boo' (like Yogi bear and Boo Boo). I can't even tell you
how that happened. I seem to remember my husband saying his brindle coat looked like bear fur...
which lead to Yogi... you get the idea.
He answers to Brindle and Boo Boo and even Bubba (name of our last boxer). Guess as long as it
starts with 'B' he knows we're talking to him.
He does have a peeking order of who he prefers to hang with. If our daughter's home from college,
he could care less about the rest of us : ) When she's not home his preferred companion is me...
then my husband... then my Dad.
We saw how much he liked to run and be outside so we fenced in our yard. He loves being outside,
if it's a nice day he wants to stay outside all day... loves snow too... but rain... forget it...
he doesn't even want to get out of bed when it's raining.
He still catches bugs... I mean he leaps into the air to get them, I have never seen a dog do that.
He's such a sweetie, we feel very lucky to have him.
UPDATE 8/31/07 - Brindle is doing great. His vet visit went well - except for wanting to play with
the cat in the waiting room LOL!. He went for a bath at the groomers and was a big hit there... they
loved him.
His favorite game, other than cozying up to his humans so they rub his back, is catching bugs. I have
never seen a dog 'track' bugs the way this one does.
UPDATE 7/25/07 - Hi, Brindle is doing great.
He is really the funniest dog... he catches bugs. I mean he leaps into the air to grab them!
We once had a boxer who would catch a bug if one happened to fly by but Brindle really hunts
them.
I guess he figures since we won't let him go after the wild turkeys or deer, the bugs will have to do.
We've figured out what games he likes to play... he likes to play fetch by himself but loves to play
tug with us.
He sleeps downstairs in our daughter's room at night but if she's out when my husband and I go to
bed, he'll come up with us until she comes home... but as soon as she's home, he's down with her.
He loves being outside, so take him out with me when I garden. He sniffs every square inch he can
get to. Oh, and riding in the car,,, this is a dog who loves car rides. Our last dog really didn't like
riding in the car so being able to take Brindle along is fun for both of us.
I'm taking him to the vet next week for a checkup but he's been eating fine... a few tummy upsets
the first couple of days he was with us but I figured it was just the trauma of the move.
6/24/07 - Brindle has been adopted!
5/16/07 - Well, who knows why, but "Brindle the Wonder dog" is still here waiting for his new
home! This boy is such a wonderful dog, if I had room for another dog he would be the one! He
loves to cuddle if you ask him too, but is perfectly content to lay on the dog bed near your feet. He
is also doing great with car rides & is not really that bothered by them anymore (must be the bribery
of treats he gets on the rides!). :) The last few weeks he has been so comfortable that he is
showing me more of his "talking" & "singing" he does. He LOVES to talk to you when playing, with
lots of grumbles, woofing, play growling & bopping your hand with his head. He cracks me up
when he does this as he gets so goofy looking & actually smiles when he does it! He knows he's
being funny & I cannot help but laugh with him! I also found if he is in the mood for attention & I'm
busy on the computer, he will just sit quietly & stare at me until I talk to him. If I ask him what he
wants & keep asking, he will start "woo-wooooing" me & moves his mouth like he really IS trying
to say something! Of course I just keeping asking him what he wants & he eventually come paws
me with this disgusted look on his face as if he is saying "Come on! I KNOW you understand me!".
Who can resist that? He also has this really cute habit of when he needs to go out or if you tell
him it is time to go out. Brindle will get right in front of the door, lean down with is face on the
ground & butt up in the air, then REVS UP FULL SPEED & he jumps straight UP about 3 feet off
the ground! He will do that over & over, (no barking though, just jumping!) until you open the
door! It's too cute, he doesn't jump on the door on you, just straight up & down like he has
springs on his feet! LOL As you can see, Brindle is a great boy & full of cute & funny character.
Ask for Brindle, he's ready to go home & make room for me to save another boxers life!
3/19/07 - Oh where, oh where is Brindy's new home!? This boy is doing so well, I cannot
understand why his new family has not found him yet. He's housetrained, crate trained, walks great
on a gentle leader collar, loves all kids & people, gets along great with the other dogs in the house
& is a super sweet boy! He loves sleeping on the corner of the bed that is left open & curls right up
into a ball & keeps my feet warm at night. When it's a warmer night he likes to sleep on the dog bed
at the foot of the bed.
I took him a couple of weeks ago to an event we had at a local Petco & he did very well. He loved
everyone he met & only had issue with the other dogs as he was on leash (he is fine if not leashed,
but gets nervous when leashed). He got many compliments on how handsome his nice reversed
brindle coat looked & how he sure did not look his age at all (he doesn't have any grey really yet!).
He is the perfect age too, not the super hyper puppy or 2 year old stage, but more mellow & the
type that likes to just hang out with you, but can get playful & enjoys going for walks & exploring on
leash. Brindle needs to go to his real home where he can settle in. Please don't keep this cutie boy
waiting any longer!
2/28/07 - Wow, how time flies! Brindle has been here a month already & he is doing great! I have
found he actually is fine with other dogs as he's been around my two boxers constantly for the last
several weeks & he's met & got along with all fosters I have had. He has not had any issues or
fights. I think he would be fine in a home with another dog or by himself. He does still want to
chase my cat every so often & gets intent on catching him, so that still is best to stay as a "no" for his
new home.
Brindle loves to cuddle on the couch & also in bed. He is so cute when I am sitting at the computer
& he is feeling "neglected", he will come over & put his big head on my leg or arm & just look up at
me with those really dark, sad eyes. It works every time to get my attention & give him some
cuddle time!! LOL He loves the extra cushy dog bed in my computer room & will rub his whole
body & face in the bed & roll around, so happy! Brindle loves everyone he meets(kids of all ages
to adults) & he is such a sweet boy. He would be fine without a fenced yard, as long as you always
leash walked him & did not tie him out or let him run loose (since he's an adventurer & likes to go
exploring & getting into mischief). Don't lose out on this great dog!
1/29/07 - Brindle was surrendered to rescue yesterday after 3 years in his last home. They did not
have a fenced yard & at times Brindle would break his tie out & go running. On two occasions this
happened he got into bad fights with the neighborhood dogs. His owner did not want to take
anymore chances that Brindle may get loose again. He loves all people & kids of all ages, but just
needs a home as the only pet & a fenced yard. He is trained on a Gentle Leader collar, so even
though he is big & strong, this helps with his pulling.
There was a very sad young girl yesterday that said goodbye to her best friend. She gave me a
handwritten note that she asked me to please give to Brindle's new owners:
"Dear Brindles new owners, Please take really good care of Brindle. We love him very much & it
hurts so much to get rid of him. We have had him for three great years. I would just ask that you be
sure he has a nice comfy couch & a heater he can lay down next to. Also, he loves to sit on his
master's lap, even though he is not a lap dog. He loves to eat cheese & also peanut butter
sandwiches & will jump up on the counter & eat anything in reach, including loaves of bread &
chocolate. He is very shakey in cars, but he loves to run. Once again, Please take good care of
him! Love, Taylor "Brindle the Wonder dog's best friend for life" P.S. The fridge is a good spot for
most food, including bread."
UPDATED 7/17/04 - Been a good summer so far..Brindle loves being outside, especially when he
gets the freedom to fun. I finally got an opportunity to have him off leash with another dog, and he
was wonderful. The 2 dogs spent a whole afternoon chasing each other around...Brindle was in
heaven. Hopefully we'll have another opportunity soon to check that out. He really loves his home
with us and gets jealous everytime the kids leave the house to see if one of the neighborhood kids
want to play...he sits on the deck or at the door and whines until they are around the corner. He
loves to play, and everyday we play ball or tug...he doesn't really fetch...he just chases down the toy
and tries to get us to play tug. He has been a great addition to our family.
UPDATED 5/4/04 - Brindle is one good dog, and has even adjusted to being crated during the
day...He is so happy to see us when we come home...he just does circles around us until we love
him enough...then he'll let us put him out. Adopting Brindle has been a great experience. I could't
have asked for a better dog. Every morning, when it's time to wake up the kids, he does the rounds
with me...jumps up on each kid's bed to "Help" with the wake up process. He has plenty of kisses
for them in the morning. He finally has relaxed a bit with other dogs...especially in situations where
he is "off leash". We spent the night at my parents house, and they have Britany Spaniel..and the
two of them tried to play..We had to watch them as Brindle is a much bigger dog and loves to play
rough, but they did very well. Until next time...
UPDATED 4/5/04 - Brindle is doing very well...still having a really rough time socializing with other
dogs...he's definitely a dominate male. Great with people though. We are almost done with our first
training round...he's making some headway, but it's almost like starting over every week because he
is so stubborn. We have fun going to the local fenced in ball field for a run whenever we can. He
loves to run as fast as he can whenever he can. And at home he's become sneaky...he somehow
manage to get off his chain twice today...and had a run in with the neighbor's German
Shepard...luckily, no one was hurt and they were not upset.
UPDATED 3/26/04 - Brindle is doing good...he's a full fledged member of the family. He is so
much fun. We have him in a training class...trying to teach him to be less agressive when meeting
new dogs... We had to take him out of the group class because he was lunging at other dogs when
on the leash. So we are in a one on one class and making headway. I can now distinguish that he is
excited to meet other dogs, but he growls, barks and shakes his head, so the other owners get
nervous...but he does calm down some after 15-20 minutes. So I think we will be able to get into a
group class shortly. He loves to go for rides...especially if I'm taking him to Petco or the local
fenced ballpark to run.
3/24/04 - Well, Brindle has become a family member. He is loved by all...most of the time...he is
very cuddly and likes to be underfoot. He loves to play and wants constant attention..just like all
pets. He's doing well...still has some issues with his stomach 1=2 times per week. We have cut
down on his treats trying to figure out what the trigger, but haven't figured it out yet.
We are working on his socializing, and he is getting better. We can get to within 4 feet of another
animal before he lunges. I think I have figured out that it is mostly excitement, but his barking makes
others nervous..the dogs and the dog owners, so we are taking it slow. I try to take him to the pet
store where he is being trained 1-2 times a week other than class time...it helps, plus we take him to
a local fenced ball park so that he can just run...which he loves.
UPDATED 2/24/04 - My name is Lynne, and we adopted Brindle during the last week of January.
It has been going pretty good for the most part, but he has an extremely sensitive stomach...we've
been to the vet once already...and $300 later, they tell me to give him pepcid...LOL...instead, we've
switched foods to a beef and rice mix...if that doesn't work, I'll try a chicken mix.
He loves the family...most mornings he gets up from his bed to climb into bed with one of my kids.
During the day, he spends time with Bob, who walks, feeds and loves him. We found a local
fenced in baseball field, that we've started taking him to for his frenzied running. He loves running.
We are hoping to get him interested in playing fetch soon, but as there is still snow and the ball
doesn't bounce, he loses interest.
We start obedience training class on friday. He could use the socialization as since we have gotten
him, he has decided to be agressive around other animals. We have to walk him with a halter now,
as it's the only way to control him when other dogs are around, and that is still an effort. Besides,
with the halter, the kids can help walk him...at least my son can, my daughter can't as she only
weighs 50 lbs and the dog outweighs and outsizes her.
UPDATED 1/25/04 - Brindle has been adopted!
1/19/04 We have another new guest here at the Thunder and lightening Boxer Retreat! The same
local shelter called the day after we got Nala to say they had another Boxer there. Brindle is a 2
year old surrender to the shelter, he was turned in they said because he wouldn't leave their cats
alone. The previous owners claim that he is not good with cats. Since we don't have cats here we
will have to say that he should probably go to a home without cats. So far Brindle is settling in
nicely he was a little nervous at first but oh so happy to leave the shelter. Brindle does know some
basic obedience commands and will do them willingly for a treat. ( he especially likes bits of cheese)
Brindle plays well with our other dogs here and absolutely loves the skin kids here. He goes today
to be neutered and brought up to date on all his shots then he will be ready for his forever home, Is
that you?
