1/31/07 - Brendall continues to do very well here at the Boxer Academy. She has not had one single
accident the whole time she has been with us, but we do make our crew go out several times a day
whether they tell us they need to or not. And Brendall obeys much better than our own two goofs when
it comes to going outside in the COLD, too.
Brendall is a little hand shy, or is it "head shy"? She has a tendancy to duck her head if you move too
quickly to pet her. She likes to know when we are going to pet her and much prefers us to move slowly
around her. I don't think she would be good with young children who would have a tendancy to
move quickly, speak loudly, and perhaps pet her more roughly than she likes. Also, she does seem a
little stiff in her rear left leg and protects it when getting up or down stairs and couches and beds...so I
wouldn't want to see any kids be too rough with her or pat her back end too hard. We did mention
that she is a couch potato, didn't we? Hey, she has been allowed on furniture for 10 years and we are
not going to make her sleep on the floor now. There is nothing she likes more than to be in a lap in the
middle of an afternoon, unless she is invited to go for a short walk, or to dine on the finest of cuisine.
The only thing we watch for is an occasional, surprise aggressive display towards one of our other
boxers. We think a phone ring and/or a loud noise outside triggers this aggression when she is
interrupted from a light slumber. The first time it happened was when we (humans and boxers) were all
resting, reading and/or watching TV and the phone rang. Seemingly out of the blue Brendall decided
she should read her two foster siblings the riot act. It was all growl and physical posturing - never a bite
or anything, but it was loud and bossy and her foster brother and sister were totally perplexed and
wiggled their butts over to Mom and Dad as if to say, "What did we do?"
We also move her out of the kitchen when we prepare meals. She prefers her own space around food!
Other than that she is a sweet boxer girl who has truly blessed us with her company. Whoever adopts
Brendall will be very lucky indeed because all she wants to do is please and be a constant companion.
1/13/07 - We forgot to mention that Brendall is taking "creative pawing" as an elective. Here is a
charming sample of her talent:
"Dear Boxer Lovers of America, if you own a warm bed that craves a boxer for company at night, then
I am your girl. If you have at least one comfy couch and an empty lap, then move over just a little, if
you'd be so kind. If you are looking for a velcro companion who tries to please, that's me. If you can fix
me up a bowl or two of kibble-delights every day, then I will eat it. If you are looking for a boxer who
knows very well when it's time to go outside to do her duty, I rest my case. If you are looking for a
boxer girl to walk with you around the block, then look no further. If you would like a sweet boxer girl
to go on a ride with you and keep you company, then fill 'er up! If you have a kitty that needs company
too, then I say, hot dog! Oh, and I only snore and snuffle just a tiny bit at night. And I do have to watch
out the window when you leave the house...and when I hear the car door, I like to watch out the
window again until you are safely inside. Does
that sound like fun? It sounds perfect to me."
1/8/07 - Well, Miss Brendall has been with us for almost a week now and we have several updates.
She has decided to register for the following classes: Health, Gym, Socialization with Miss Manners,
and Cafeteria.
Health: She has earned a new rabies certificate, tested negative for heartworm, tested negative on her
fecal, has survived nail trimming 101 and is well on the way to sporting two clean ears. We are keeping
an eye on her lumps and bumps. Her teeth are exceptional if she is indeed 10 years old!
Gym: She's a bit of a puller on the leash - much better when on a short leash. She excels at something
between a bunny hop and pony prance when greeting humans at the door. She may have one slightly
arthritic knee according to the Vet, but she can wiggle with the best of them!
Socialization: Brendall has found her voice...and she uses it (only occasionally) to tell Winston and
Sandy she isn't taking any crap from anyone. Other than that, she is a dainty little partner. She happily
greets Mr. Kodak every morning.
Cafeteria: She loves the food here and eats everything but the last 4 or 5 kibbles. She is not always
interested in treats - perhaps she wants to keep her trim little 46 pound figure.
All in all she is doing very well and is a very spry gal. Wouldn't you like her to show you a thing or two?
Get your application in and if you are lucky, she may pick you!
12/31/06 - Mr. Kodak's Academy for Fine Young (-at-Heart) Boxers, better known as the The Boxer
Academy, is ringing in the New Year with a warm welcome to Brendall, a sweetheart of a boxer girl.
Brendall's owner learned that she had to move and couldn't take Brendall with her. It's very obvious
that Brendall was much loved and we wish her owner well and thank her for calling SCBR for help in
placing her 10 year old boxer girl with a new caring family.
This is Brendall's first night with us and we can tell that she misses her Mom, but she managed to eat
some food, meet Mr. Kodak, our kitty, and greet our two boxers through the crate. She has had no
accidents in the house and we believe peace will reign supreme at The Boxer Academy once all
introductions are made on New Year's Day!
Brendall was named after Brenda Lee, though she is a quiet little thing and doesn't seem to have much
of a voice, unlike the songstress. Who knows, though, she may surprise us after she settles in. We are
hoping her former owner will be able to find some paperwork so we can post her real age. Her owner
thought she might be 10 years old, but she seems a little younger to us.
The foster "staff" here at the Academy would like to thank Judy, Jackie and Dan for their efforts in
getting this beauty into rescue so she can have her much deserved second chance. We'll keep you
posted on Brendall's progress, but already we can tell that she is a little darling who will be no trouble to
anyone with a soft heart and warm bed. We will be getting her an appointment at the Vet's ASAP
because she needs to be brought up to date with shots and tested for Heartworm. She's already won
our hearts. Has she started tugging on yours yet?
12/31/06 - Here are a couple of pictures of Brendall (Brenda Lee) who came into rescue today. Owner
says she is around 10 but she doesn't show her age at all. She looks as though she has been well taken
care of. She is spayed and will need to be brought up to date on her vaccs. She has a few lumps and
bumps that will also need to be looked at. She has met a few of the dogs here and seems good with
them. Peaches was a little too much for her right now but Peaches can be alot for me anyday of the
week. Brendall has lived with cats and has been around children. Someone should scoop her up with all
her good traits.
