BOSS
UPDATE 9/30/07 - We could not be happier that Boss has joined our family!!!
He is settling in to his routines well. When he first got here he couldn't relax at all- every time anyone got
up to do anything, he was right on their heels, but it's a sign of progress that now he can stay put when
we leave the room for a few minutes.
Boss is 2, but has plenty of puppy moments, racing around like crazy. It doesn't help that the kids (6 &
12) egg him on. He's a total goofball and keeps us in stiches, and when he does finally calm down, he's
very sweet and cuddly. He might be the best snuggler we've met - slobber and all.
We've been doing formal clicker training for a few weeks and he's catching on quickly. He's so smart
and eager to please! We take him with us whenever we can, and everywhere we go, people comment
on what a great dog he is - and so handsome!
That's all for now...

8/07 - Boss has been adotped!

7/26/07 - We have decided that Boss and Sasha can be separated. We gave it 3 weeks and keeping
them in rescue longer than necessary isn't fair. They're young so they should adjust.

So, if you are interested in the big Boss Man, hurry & let us know as he won't be here much longer!

7/19/07 - The Boss man is doing great. He is big, goofy loveable guy. He's housebroke (only 3 marking
incidents his first few days here) and good in the crate. He continues to befriend everyone he meets with
one exception squirrels! Wednesday when Sasha was spay he went for the ride to drop her off at the
vet then we went for a long walk in town. He did super well with seeing children playing on the
playground, busy streets, dogs barking at him etc. Our only problem came when he saw a squirrel boy
oh boy did that little squirrel catch Boss' attention! We started working on the leave it command and he
seems to be getting the idea. We worked on sitting at intersections and he listened very well.  He would
admire his reflection in the windows of the store fronts. It was quite comical, he kept looking up and
trying to play with the handsome dog saw! My daughter and I got a really good laugh.

After our walk we picked my son up and went to my grandmother's. He was a really good boy. Boss
decided to jump in the pond immediately upon seeing it which would have been more fun had it not
been a decorative little garden pond. Silly Boss got his legs wet, realized it wasn't a "swimmin' hole" then
jumped out and went about his business. My aunt stopped over and Boss was very happy to see her.
Finally we returned home he napped all afternoon. Our plan worked, he was too tired to miss Sasha.

Boss has this funny little habit, whenever he gets excited he puts something in his mouth and tries to give
it to me. Sometimes when he's in his crate he will grab his blanket, put it in his mouth and wiggle, wiggle,
wiggle as if to say "I love you, look what I have for you today". Today's gifts were his blanket first thing
this morning, a rhinobone, a kong and a marrow bone. I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings!
Boss is a super good boy, he's learning the rules of being an inside dog. I can honestly say his worst
habit is sometimes he and Sasha will try to wrestle on the couch but are getting the idea they get sent
outside to rough house. Training Boss will be a breeze for his new family he is one of the most eager to
please dogs I have ever had the pleasure of fostering. Boss truly just wants his people to be happy.
Boss will be ready for adoption anytime after 7/24, he promises to give you gifts and lots of love.

7/9/07 - Boss is settling in very nicely. He went to the vet on Thursday. Boss started with a really bad
cough and some mucus. I thought it was kennel cough but the vet was concerned it was more of a flu
type infection. Since the flu in dogs takes a very long time to clear up we opted to treat him immediately
versus taking the typical wait & see approach. He is on antibiotics and a cough/decongestant. Friday he
was worse, goopy eyes and snotty nose but it seems the antibiotics are working and he's getting better.
Boss was heartworm tested and his neuter was scheduled for 7/24. Boss was super well behaved at the
vet. I was very impressed by his easy going demeanor.

Boss needs to learn some manners but has really settled into our routine pretty well. Boss is great with
my kids (almost 5 & 12) he will do fine in a home with kids 5+ that are dog savvy and sturdy! Boss
doesn't have a mean bone in his body but he also doesn't realize what a big dog he is, so I have no
doubt he would accidentally knock down little ones (probably in an attempt to slather them with kisses).
Boss meets no stranger and is confident/easy going. The complete opposite of Sasha! If you are
considering owning 2 dogs Boss and Sasha would LOVE to be adopted together. At first I thought
Sasha was more dependant on Boss than he was her but I have found he is very attached to her. If they
are adopted separately Boss' new family will need to be extra patient while he adjusts.

Boss really is a lot of fun to foster. He has come a long way on just a week. His jumping has decreased
and he has learned that there is no rough housing inside. Housebreaking has gone much better that
expected and his crate is always clean/dry. He walks fairly well with a no-pull harness/halter that will
come with him when he is adopted. He is easy to handle with the halter on. I was in contact with Boss'
former owner and found out that he was acquired by her at 1 year old. With his first owner he was tied
out on a chain in the backyard. His second owner took him, gave him a nice fenced yard to live in and
bought Sasha to keep him company. In hindsight she realized that this wasn't the best idea. Since she
already had 3 small dogs she wasn't able to allow them inside. Boss' owner told me he LOVES water.
We had a warm day and sure enough Boss loved the hose and kiddie pool. He had a blast. I'm going to
try to take him to the lake this week and see how he likes that. More updates coming soon!

7/3/07 - Big Boss has arrived just in time for Independence day! He is freed from the miserable life of
an outside dog. Boss made a road trip from Texas to New York on the Legacy Express. We would
like to thank all the Legacy Boxer Rescue volunteers, shelters and veterinarians that made this trip
possible.

Boss lived outside with Sasha (who's also being fostered by me and available for adoption). Boss is a
BIG, BIG did I say BIG boy who is an absolute love. I was shocked as the picture I saw of him make
him look average size. He is friendly, happy and wiggly but he does need some obedience training. Boss
Man just very simply has no idea of his size but seems eager to please and will learn quickly. More
updates and pictures coming soon.

7/3/07 - The TX crew arrived late this afternoon. Cesar and Honey made their way to Debbie and
Alison. Honey is a little peanut, fawn with white. She was surrendered to the shelter because her owner
is in the militray and got transferred. Cesar is a cute white boy with one blue eye. I got many kisses from
him :o)

I have Sasha and Boss who I found out today lived together. Made figuring out who went where easy,
one less intro. for me to do.  Sasha is white/fawn & all of 35 pounds tiny,tiny.,tiny. Boss on the other
hand is a BIG GIANT BEAST. I'd guess 90+ pounds. He's a hand full! He super handsome but in
need of some training and a neuter. They were both outside dogs :o(
