BIG AL
4/26/07 - It is with a very heavy heart I write this message. I had to send Al to the bridge today. I am still  confused at how a dog that is so loving to one person can be aggressive to others. With my daughter and myself, and at the end my husband also, Al was loving, protective and nurturing. With most male people he was unpredictable at best.
Today, I brought him to the vet for a belly issue and he snapped at the vet, the exam was almost over and he had done fine, but he just snapped. There was never any warning growls, and the vet was a woman, so that blew the" just doesn't like males" theory. That was his last chance and I could make no more excuses for him... I was sooo hoping for this guy to make it.  Godspeed Big Al !!!

4/17/07 -
Since he came into rescue, Big Al has shown he has some issues with trusting men.  His foster family is working with him to see if they can help him overcome his fears.  More updates soon from his foster home.

3/26/07 -
Again, we seem to have been blessed by a wonderful foster. Big Al is a laid back follow you around kind of guy. He does have a "Don't touch MY stuffed animal" attitude, so we have relegated the toy to his crate. It was the only scuffle between our dominant female and this loving guy. He hasn't shown any food aggression as of yet.

He is fully housetrained and knows basic commands, and will listen and mind immediately. He was told to sit and wait for his meal (NILIF) and after a few seconds, gave his paw. Someone has taught this dog. My husband fed him and again said wait, Big Al stood on his hind legs and "begged". He heard lots of "whoo hoos" from the crowd!!

He ok to be left alone uncrated, or at least he was Sunday while we were at church. He is terribly emaciated, and needs neutering so I will call the vet today and get that under way.   Get your apps in for this guy. All the hard work has been done!
