BEATRICE (BEA)  -
English Bulldog/Boxer Mix
UPDATE 10/12/07 - Beatrice is looking beautiful these days.  Even though she is still on medication for
her mange, her little face is covered in a thick coat of velvet hair, as is the rest of her body.  Her face is
no longer swollen as in the old pictures of her posted on this site, and she is far less wrinkled and old
looking now.  It's really possible to see the boxer in her and hard to believe that the dog we have in our
house today is the same one we collected in New Jersey.
Beatrice has made herself very much at home in this house.  Our other two dogs continue to let her get
away with murder.  Sometimes she will share the sofas with them, but other times she will just hog them
all to herself and Buster and Ben just let her get on with it.  She's the same with toys and always wants
Buster's Rugby ball which has always been his most precious toy.  Still, he lets her have whatever she
wants, all Beatrice has to do is batter her eyelashes.
Beatrice has a very helathy appetite and clearly relishes her food.  She still loves fruit and will sit
patiently for ages waiting for a piece of whatever fruit my husband and I are eating.  Toilet training
seems to have been effective (touch wood) and we have had no accidents in the house for some time.
Occassionally Beatrice will still eat her own feaces from the garden if we don't remove it quickly
enough.  However, my husband is a number one poop patroller so this is helping us to control that nasty
little habit!
I want to paste a picture of Beatrice and her new pals, but have yet to figure out how to do this.  Watch
this space though!

UPDATE 9/10/07 -   Since Beatrice has been with us, she has gone from strength to strength. She has
made friends with both of our dogs and has to do everything that they do.  That includes stealing the
cat's food and playing rugby with my husband in the garden. Her confidence has really grown and she is
barely head shy at all now.  Now that her mange is being treated proparly, she has fur on her face and
seems to be a lot more comfortable. The people at our vets love her and think that she matches our
other two dogs perfectly, being as they are all brindle and all have names beginning with B.
Beatrice is a clever little thing and has learned about the invisible fence with out us ever having to shock
her(thank goodness).  Beatrice sees the flags and knows the fence boundries and keeps well away. I
think our other dogs may have told her about the perils of the fence on the sly.  Gradually Beatrice is
learning commands and will always oblige requests if rewarded with a treat.  If she wants something,
she has learned to sit before even being asked now.  Her very favourite treat is water melon, which
happens to be my favourite too, so we spend a lot of time sharing and bonding.  Beatrice's only vice is
the cats, she loves to make them run and then chase them which annoys the cats greatly.  She is
beginning to settle down around them, but we have to keep a good eye on her and make sure she
knows how naughty it is to chase kitties.
At the weekend Bea had her first dip.  She really enjoys her walks, although was a bit confused about
what was going on to start with.  She looks adorable in her pink harness and matching lead, and there is
no mistaking that she is the lady of the bunch.  Yesterday Ben went for a swim in the river while we
were out and Beatrice, ever wishing to follow in her beloved Bens footsteps happily went in after him.
She seemd really happy splashing around in the shallows although she didn't swim.  Buster, our boxer
was not impressed, he hates water and just wanted them both out pronto!
We are hoping to have her one hundred percent mange free within the next few weeks and are making
regular vets visits to keep on top of the situation.  Due to her shyness, we are leaving off with outside
training until we feel Bea is confidant enough to go through it.

8/13/07 - Beatrice has been adopted!

6/9/07 - Well, our sweet little girl is ready to go to her forever home.  The more time she has spent with
us, the more it has become just so clear that she is a sweet little girl that just wants to be near you and
petted.
She has built some confidence and will approach you :)  She has done very well with the other dogs.
She has met many fosters and has settled in with the resident dogs.  Beatrice loves to play and gets a lot
of  security and comfort from the company of another dog.   I would like her to have a fur brother or
sister.   She is great with the children and is not interested in the cat.  The only quirk she has is that she
will still relieve herself in the crate from time to time.  Although this will need continued attention, it is
due to no fault of her own. She was very neglected in her developmental months, and unfortunately she
is not very uncomfortable with staying in her mess.  This is a sweet baby girl who loves ice cubes and
will eat 10 if you HAND FEED them to her.   I put a bowl out when I discovered she liked ice....
naww she prefers being hand fed.  One by one will do nicely :)) loll

It's all about the food for this girl.. While having lunch yesterday, I shared some of my chicken.   Well,
with each bite she shook her little tail. The little nub wiggles and wiggles.  She loves her food.

5/30/07 - I put Trooper's crate right next to Beatrice... well, they chatted and exchanged pleasantries
for a couple of days.   and I decided to introduce them ..... lol lol

they have been fast friends.  the youngsters run, jaw, pounce.  it's a blast watching them. Beatrice
needed a new friend.... she was missing her sister.

5/28/07 - I have to tell ya.this pup is growing.    I just took at look at her laying in the crate, she
completely fills it out.... she has gained weight and has gotten longer!!

We were right the twins are really babies!!   it's like we sprinkled miracle grow on them :) lol lol

5/19/07 - Ms. Bea has been with us for almost 2 moths now. She is still slowly healing from her mange.
Bea's sister, Bernie, was adopted last weekend and this has forced  Bea to come out of her shell. Now
she will allow me to pet and hug  her-she no longer runs for higher ground.  Bea's  trust  level has come
such a long way.  Bea loves being with us... She is very submissive with other dogs-she gets down real
low upon
approach and gives kisses to the other dog.  We are still working on Bea's level of confidence. This is a
dog who has clearly had a rough life. With  just time and patience she has come around and is a very
sweet animal.

Bea does some really funny things. Anything that has wheels- the vacuum cleaner, the hose caddie........
MUST DIE.  lmao-she attacks the wheels with such passion!!  She is truly a pup..... learning the do's
and dont's. This little girl wants to please and is a quick study. Please get your application in-she won't
be around  long!

4/1/07 - well, Miss Bea is healing as planned........her coat, skin everything looks 75% better!   she is
becoming one happy little girl.  Bea is still shy and takes a while to approach....she  wants to loves to be
petted and hugged. just takes a while until she allows  herself to sit still for it :)
The more time I spend with her the younger I  think she is.... could actually be about 1 yr old. she is
very baby like.. when  she hears her food being prepared she squeaks with excitement like a  puppy!!
it's adorable.  Bea is really a pup. she needs obedience and house  skills. she is a counter surfer and
steals anything she can entertain herself  with. life is a toy :)) and there are many in a house  :)) dish
towels, plastic soda bottles. the word  just  is her toy box :)

She has two things that were working on.. she still will  relieve herself in her crate. this is not uncommon
for a dog that has been very neglected.  most dogs are very uncomfortable with a dirty den.  she had
become
use to it :(   it is clear she was not given proper  attention and spent a lot of time crated :(   it will take a
while to break this habit.  the other thing that we are working on is poop  eating.   again a dog that has
been neglected and hungry can  acquire these unattractive survival skills. as time goes on and meals are
plentiful... she should ease out  of  this.  until that time. I go outside with her and scoop up  anything
remains in the yard!

She just received her second bath. she loved it was calm  and allowed me to really scrub her down.  all
the flaky skin is gone , she looks so  healthy.  Bea will be dropped off next Sunday to be spayed
Monday  morning.she will return to her foster home Monday evening..... she will be ready for her
forever home
shortly  :)

3/27/07 - Miss.Bea has been with us for a week....... This little shy girl has begun to come to life , like
many dogs that come in with a poor physical condition....  Bea has had some intestinal parasites.... she
went to the vet yesterday and we got medication for her. We've also begun treating her Mange. This
little shy scared girl is clearly beginning to feel better after just one week of SCBR'S TLC. She smiles
and wiggles, she has discovered stuffed toys. LOVESSSS HER STUFFIES!  She is crate trained and
has learned our house routine in 7 days, she is so smart.

It was clear she wanted to be petted and hugged she would approach. But when I reached out for her,
she would shy and move away,  she has begun staying for her hugs :))

She lovesssss to have her faced cleaned with Unscented Baby wipes..... she looks like she could stand
there for hours while you clean her.   We also put vitamin E on her face to help it heal, she enjoys that
too.....
If all continues to go as planned she will be spayed the fist week in April. her Cherry Eye will also be
addressed during her spay!

3/20/07 - Miss Bea has arrived in foster care :) She is the shyer one of this duo.  Bea came in with
Bernadette.......they were brought to a shelter 1 week apart.  the story the gemtleman told the shelter
was he was just so lucky to have found these 2 girls in the same spot on the highway......... 1 week
apart.  so he brought one in on a sat and the following sat he brought the other.  (it is believed that they
were actually his dogs)  She will be here for about 3 weeks to allow her Mange to heal enough to be
spayed and have her cherry eye fixed.  More details and pic's to come as we get to know this little
gem.........
