BANDIT
UPDATE 9/10/07 - Bandit is settling in nicely, his loyalty is coming along and he is becoming more
affectionate with us.  He really missed us when we came back from a week of vacation and seems to
be happiest when we are both home.  Sometimes he tries to get in the bed with us like he's a person but
he doesn't understand that I don't want to share my pillow with him.
He graduated obedience and did quite well in class, teachers pet, but he'll try to push the limits on
occaision at home.  He no longer bothers the cats but they still don't like him and stay clear.  He is much
better with the counter surfing after getting caught a few times and listens most of the time.  He does talk
back when he doesn't get what he wants, he kind of mumbles and if we laugh at him he gets upset.
Our biggest challenge now is to get him to come when we call him so we can keep him off leash outside
more.  He much rather visit the neighbors for a treat or find a dog to play with unless we have good
treats or are going for a ride.

UPDATE 6/12/07 - Bandit is doing well, as we have witnessed and were told by the obedience
instructor he is a bit bossy.  He is very curius about everything and doesn't relax unless he finally gets
bored with his surroundings.  He does listen but its selective, no treat is better than freedom.  He is
generally quiet, he doesn't bark unless he wants something.  I think he is on the smarter side which can
make him challenging to deal with, he knows his commands but chooses when he will do them so we
have work to do.
Bandit is still very curious about the cats.  He has had encounters with each of them and only one is
really starting to hold her ground with him.  He just wants to play with everything.  He is very friendly
and good with dogs, people and kids although he doesn't realize his size and sometimes bumps into
them and knocks them down.
Our yard is completely fenced in now and he likes being back there unteatherd.  Bandit has made some
friends with the nieghbors boxers right away and their sons boxer and rotti.  We take the whole pack to
the farm and let him run with them.  He is like a yo-yo.  He runs way ahead and runs back to us and
then repeats.  He loves playing with other dogs and loves to run.  He has gotten loose a few times and
basically your best bet at getting him to come is to get his attention and run away from him so he thinks
he has to chase you.  Its a big game.
We have taken him to visit many friends and family and he does well, he searches for cats at every
house before he'll settle down though.  Everyone tells him he is so handsome further feeding his ego.
He knows how to work it, he is independent but knows how to turn on the I'm a poor neglected sad
dog face to get away with mischeif.
As far as health goes he is doing ok, we are trying to work on his skin allergy, he is better since we got
him on some meds but they don't seem to be working completely and he is getting scratchy again.  I
wish there was more info on this before we got him so we didn't have to start from scratch on solving
this problem, the vet visits are adding up.
He is a big clown and sometimes gets into trouble but a good dog most of the time.  We need to work
on table manners and occaisional counter surfing.  I also need to get him to listen with distractions.  We
have only had one obedience class so far so we'll have to give him some time and keep working with
him. I am not sure how someone could give him up but it worked out for us.

5/13/07 - Bandit has been adopted!

4/18/07 - Bandit continues to be the perfect boy at our home. We have not had one accident, he lets us
know when he needs to go out.  He is a gentleman and quiet all day.  He gets along well with the other
dogs.  He is not hyper or jumpy.  He loves to play and snuggle and loves all those oohy- goohy kisses
he gets from us.  He sleeps all night in bed or on the futon now.  He can't wait till his foster Daddy
comes home from work and shows the utmost loyalty to him.  He is also enjoying the company of teen
age girls and talks like Chewbacca to them.  He seems to do best with lots to do around him and lots of
attention.  It is turning him into somewhat of a big lug.  He is confident the attention is right around the
corner, so he doesn't demand it.  He is one of the best dogs I had the pleasure to meet.  We will truly
miss him when you take him home. The sore on his shoulder does not need to be removed.  It has
gotten smaller and dry.  The vet said it is a benign lump..

4/9/07 - Bandits paper work has arrived.  He needs to get allergy meds from vet and get that sore spot
checked out.  He goes on Thursday this week.  He continues to be absolutely wonderful.  He gets
along with the other dogs very well.  He sleeps with us every night, slips in like a piece of paper.  He
settles down nicely when asked to in the house.  He enjoys sitting outside for a half hour or so at a time
and asks to often.  His skin allergies are definitely kicking up.  Bandit is scratching much more now and
licking that raspberry looking sore on his shoulder.  (you can see it on one of his pictures)  I hope the
vet cuts it off.  It gets a little bloody and oozes if he bothers it or scrapes it going out the door.

I must say this dog has speed. He slipped out the door with Curly the other day and ran like a bat out
of hell, down the road and into the main street and stopped traffic until we could get there .  He came
right back to the car when called, but it was crazy.  He won't get the opportunity again, believe me.

4/5/07 - There was conflicting info from the NJ shelter.  But extensive papers have been received.  He
is an owner surrender and taken care of very well.  The owners say that they gave him up because he
required to much attention and he did not like other dogs. That being said - I have not seen it yet.  I will
keep my eye out.  He has done well with both Deisel(Bull Mastiff) and Curly - Toodle). Curly took
longer. Bandit wanted to bowl her done the hall. She has now put him in his place, with constant
reminders. Deisel and Bandit play hard.  I aloud that outside and love for them to get the wiggles and
energy out that way.  I always supervise.  When it gets a little rough I split them - get a few sits and
downs-  they need to know I say when and how.  They both listen very well.  They wrestle like crazy
boys. They play like Hockey guys checking and body slamming.  I am not intimidated by this kind of
play and never let it get out of hand.  In the house it is not aloud.  If Bandit is spoken to twice he goes in
his crate for a time out. He has started licking and kissing Diesel profusely.  His submission.  It is cute
but obnoxious.

He has been to the park, beach, walked in the woods, met a lot of people and behaved wonderfully.
He has full run of the house and slept in Phoebe's bed Sunday night and our bed last night. Diesel has
his own futon, so he didn't mind. Our bed is now his spot.  We don't mind. I try to somehow tire the
dogs out every day.  That is the goal. Tired and satisfied with life, that is a good dog.  It has little to do
with the dog but with the handler.  If you want fun, fire, big play, long walks, beach sand all over their
faces, constant treats in your pocket to commend what you want to bring out in them.  That makes a
content happy dog, well adjusted, and tired.  At home they will want to hang out just like us. We find
his need for attention great.  We have two dogs who love to hang out and he has added the dynamic
these dogs needed.  I feel he is great with other dogs because I understand the cues to watch for.  He
has met a few random dogs downtown.  He wants wants wants to play.  Paws them all in the face.  He
will work on that.  In a few years this stage will be over and he will settle down. Bandit needs a strong
owner who is not afraid of letting him get his boy out.  And understands the man is coming. Puppies are
cute but work.  I believe wholeheartedly that dogs this age show who they are and who they can be.
As cute and wonderful a new puppy is the are just a surprise with no guarantees.  Young Boxers need
attention as most living things.  The more they get the more they give back.  You are so lucky if you
take Bandit home, he is a big giver and very special!

4/2/07 - Bandit came to us Saturday March 31.  He did not seem shaken after his trip.  He was very
friendly and took to our kids immediately.  Saturday night he played in the living room with three teen
agers and two little kids (3 and 5).  He appears to be very comfortable in most situations.  He has
definitely been to obedience class and follows all of my commands. He knows sit, down, walks on
leash very well, wait, come, no, and thankfully "No wrestling in the house, that is for outside." He goes
in his crate with little coaching. He is completely house trained. As far as looks, he is gorgeous. A real
showy boxer.  Awesome markings and lines.  He is fiery in temperament. As well as loving, with lots of
kisses and nibbles.
