UPDATE 8/24/07 - Bagheera is doing so great!! We could not love her more. We have taken her
camping twice, the first time was less than 1 week after adopting her. Everyone commented on how
beautiful she is and how well she listens to us. We took her again last weekend and she did wonderful.
We took her hiking twice and the first time she was very hesitant, we had to carry her up and down
some of the bigger rocks, but the second time she was a pro!! She would run up ahead and come
back to us as soon as we called her. She has met many many new dogs, I took her to the beach twice
(not very successful) and the dog park once (she did awesome). I feel like other dog owners are
scared of her, because she looks aggressive, even though she is just a big sweetie. When we were at
the dog park we met up with a friend who has a boxer/bulldog male puppy (Griffen) who Bagheera has
played with before. When we first got there another dog was being more aggressive with Griffen and
Bagheera was so protective! She said, "don't mess with my little friend!" then later Griffen was playing
with a very small dog (rat terrier?) and took him down a couple of times. Bagheera turned "mom" on
the little dog and would go stand over top of him to protect him from griffen! It really was interesting to
watch. She starts obedience classes on September 6th. We are doing the beginner obedience with
Carolyn Ross at Happy Tails in Portland. Her first vet visit was also interesting, she did not seem
comfortable with the vet looking in her ears or mouth. He also said that she may have torn her meniscus
on her back left leg in the past. We have some glucosamine/chondroitin/msm tablets to give her for
that. WE LOVE HER SO MUCH!!!
7/24/07 - Bagheera has been adopted!
7/14/07 - Bagheera went to the vet today to get her heartworm combo test & fecal check. She
weighed 58 lbs & everything came out negative & the vet gave her a clean bill of health. She had so
much fun at the vet's office waiting the hour to get in. She was happy to be talked to & petted by
everyone (from 4 year old kids to adults) & thought all the dogs that came in where there to play with
her! :) I had at least 3 offers of people to take her home right then as they all said "how could someone
give such a NICE DOG up?!".
I have started to see the very funny & goofy side of Bagheera more now as she has settled in. She gets
in these play moods where if I just look at her the right way, she will fly into the play position (butt up in
the air, face to ground & front legs spread out in "V" shape). All the while she is smiling a HUGE smile
with her tongue hanging out & whole body wiggling, until she hits the 'freeze frame", right when she sees
me laugh! LOL She will do this for awhile & gets all crazy & runs around. It cracks me up as it is just
too cute & funny to watch! She really is a great dog with lots of character & personality. She would
be GREAT in ANY setting, from big city living or apartments/condos to country living or anything in
between. She promises to keep you laughing & will give you the best companion & friend you will
ever meet. Are you Bagheera's home? Hurry, she's a great catch & you would not want to miss out on
her!!
7/10/07 - Bagheera is just the sweetest dog!! She is so friendly and has a wonderful personality. She
loves my other dogs & is always trying to get Jedi to play with her by giving him kisses & dancing
around him (though Sandi thinks her "man" is not for sharing!-LOL). Bagheera is perfect in the house
& does not mind my cat at all either. She loves to be petted and told how cute & sweet she is and will
give you a huge smile & kiss to say "Thanks!"!! She does her business outside & will let you know
right away if she thinks you "forgot" about her for even one second (boy, can she talk when she wants
something!-LOL). She then just looks at you with those cute eyes as if to say "jeesh, you were gone
for 3 days!" (which is really 3 seconds!). :P Bagheera is eating well now and I even think her seasonal
alopecia (those patches on her sides--very common in boxers & not an issue) is clearing up some with
some good food & loving. She is one special girl & deserves a great home, is that you? Better hurry,
this is going to be one that will not be around long!
7/5/07 - Bagheera came into rescue tonight thanks to a great shelter we work with & Lori who picked
her up and met me. She is a nice fawn girl with a black mask, docked tail and natural ears. Bagheera
(named after the black panther in the Jungle Book movie!) was surrendered by her owners to the
shelter as they were moving and could not take her. She lived with another male dog and cat and was
great with both. She seems like a very nice girl and was nice meeting several people tonight. Bagheera
is a little nervous though with all the changes and will need a little time to settle in. Pictures coming soon
& updates as she makes herself more comfy.
