UPDATE 6/8/07 - It has been one month sice Axel has came to live with us. He is doing very well. We
did take a trip to Massachusetts a few weeks ago and he did fine in the car. He really enjoyed it. He
does not do real well with other dogs...Jeremy's bother has a female boxer and at first Axel and her
wanted to sniff each other, but Axel then got aggressive with her. So we did not allow them to be left
alone without our suppervison. He is getting used to our routine and our yard. We did get him a short
runner to try that out, and he seems ok with that. We have been letting him sleep outside of his crate at
night and he has found "his spot" on the couch were he like to crul up on. Doing very well with our three
year old son and bird. He pay no mine to the bird. Once in a while he will stop and look at him and then
just keep going. We are still on the hunt for the right obedience trainer for Axel, but he does respond to
some basic commands. We will be taking a family trip to go tent camping in July. I am a little nervous
on how he will do with this. But we will see.
UPDATE 5/11/07 - Axel seems to be adjusting pretty well with us and I think he is getting used to our
routine. We have a bird and he seemed curious about him, but has not bothered him and will stop and
look at him once in a while and just keep going. We have been putting him in his crate at night and when
we are at work. The first night we put him in the crate he cried for about a 1/2 hour and finally calmed
down and was fine the rest of the night. I think maybe another week or so we will let him sleep out of
the crate. He is responding to some basic commands like sit, paw, and lie down. But when it is time to
go out, he will sit so we can put his leash on, but as soon as that door opens he pulls...a lot. I think he is
curious on what is outside and I think he is smelling our neighbors dogs. He will defintly need some
training with not pulling when we get his leash on him. When we take him out we have been keeping him
in the yard and just doing loops so that he may become familar with his boundries. He is eating well, 2
times a day. My 2 1/2 year old absoulty adores Axel and Axel is interacting well with my son. We did
have a little incident were I changed my sons diaper and put it in the bathroom trash and I walked into
my sons room to put something away and when I walked out there was Axel and the diaper on the
floor. He aparently ate what was in the diaper...why would a dog do that?? Is this a normal behavior?
So for the most part Axel is fitting right in with the family. It is funny now, when ever Jeremy gets
up...Axel is right behind him. SO I think he will do jus tfine with us!
5/5/07 - Axel has been adopted!
5/2/07 Axel is doing well! We found out a few things about him since he has come in, the big one is that
he really isn't receptive to other dogs. Because he is so big and strong, it's doubly hard dealing with him
when he gets so agitated, so I feel it would be better for him to be an only dog. He is fabulous with
people and with kids. He would like to chase cats, though, so no cats for Axel.
Axel is a sweet boy, and really has no idea that he is so big. He likes to get in my lap(!) and gives lots of
kisses. He is doing well crated while we work. My personal wish for Axel is that he have a nice big
fenced yard to play in at his forever home.We have one, and he is so happy to be able to play outside
and run! He still needs a lot of exercise at his age!
4/18/2007 Hi everyone, we have a new guest at the Last Resort as of Saturday , 4/14. Axel is one of
the largest boxers we've ever seen, a good head taller my 94-pound female. He is a wonderful boy,
sweet and playful. He has no clue how large he is. He should weigh in at over a 100 pounds easily
once he is filled out. He is rather thin at the moment. Axel loves to cuddle and be affectionate. He is
supposed to be okay with cats and other dogs, but I have no cats to test him with. He is fine with the
18 month old baby in our home, and lived with a 5 year old at his original home. I haven't had him out
with any of my own dogs yet as he isn't neutered, but I feel pretty confident that he will do ok with out
lesser male, and probably most females. He's really a lovely dog, we like him a lot. Someone will be
very lucky to adopt him, especially if you like big dogs. He is really a big goober, lol!
