UPDATE 7/10/07 - Apollo fits right in, like he's been here forever.
He loves his cat brother. They often cuddle and the cat sits outside his crate when he is in it. He loves
his stuffed animals, but not mine.
He's doing well on his walks. He has been signed up for school in September.
His vet check up was great. He is a good listener. Sleeps like a lug. He is a very good boy. We just
love him.
6/9/07 - Apollo has been adopted!
6/5/07 - Apollo arrived Saturday. He really is a wonderful, sweet handsome little boxer. He has nice
markings and a healthy muscular body. He is very sweet and really likes his humans. He loves to play
with his toys and can amuse himself very well. Apollo doesn't mind his crate at all and sleeps all night
quietly. He hardly barks except to alert. He allows you to take his food and toys away and is very
gentle taking treats from your hand. He is house broken, has not made one mistake and doesn't mark.
He is very calm and hangs out with you comfortably. Apollo loves his hugs and kisses and wiggles a lot
in appreciation. He walks quite well on a leash, no pulling at all and knows basic commands. He will
do very well in a house with people around, and does well with all ages. He is past the puppy "bowl
you over" stage and loves kids attention. That's what is
so wonderful about a more mature dog. There is no guess work.
He would do well if he is the only dog. He does not need the attention of another dog like some do.
He is not food or toy aggressive with people at all. He has not gotten along with the other dogs in the
house. He seems to want to be alpha and they are not having it. The aggression has gotten quite
heated on both ends, his and my dogs. If you don't intend to have another dog Apollo would be happy
with that and very loyal to you and your family. For the most part he would just be happy as an only
dog. He is OK with cats.
5/25/07 - Apollo came into rescue today thanks to Liz for picking him up! Here is some info on him
from the shelter that called us to help: "Apollo is a purebred Boxer who was originally purchased
from a pet shop. He is now 5 years old and was surrendered by his owners for being "too hyper".
We all think he is a wonderful boy who just needs the right family to give him the daily exercise
he needs. Apollo knows sit, lay down and rollover. He has had no formal obedience class but one
may be helpful and Apollo would probably love it...he is very smart. His previous owner stated
he gets along with cats but has not had much exposure to other dogs. Although he has not lived
with children, he has been exposed to kids ages 3+. A great family for Apollo would be one that
is home a good part of the day, who will take him for nice, long walks and some kids to play
soccer with him in their backyard!"
