11/17/06 - Hello everyone, I am sorry for the delay in reporting to you all about Zoey. Zoey was sent
to the bridge because she proved to be too aggressive toward people to be safely placed in an adoptive
home or to
remain in my home. My family and I did all we could for her and this was a very tough decision....but
one that had to be taken. So sorry to have to report this news.
11/2/06 - Zoey has been showing some unpredictable, aggressive behaviors toward people since
coming back into rescue. She is not available for adoption at this time.
10/8/06 - Unfortunately Zoey has come back to rescue to find a different home. She did not do well in
a busy environment with lots of people coming & going in the house & on walks meeting strangers. She
appears to have a more protective nature & will need a more quiet type of a home. More updates
soon from her new foster home.
9/23/06 - Zoey was adopted!
9/20/06 - Zoey has had a really great summer and I do apologize for the lack of updates for her. This
little sweetheart is just that, a true sweetie pie......she wants only to please and to share her love. We
had a few times where she didn't want to share my attention with her "brothers and sister" but she had
learned that no matter how many other dogs are here she's loved. Zoey minds so well......I'm so proud
of her; she comes to us when called, sits for treats, is patient while I fix her meal (and everyone else's)
and goes in to her crate so well at night.
She had learned a bad habit from my dogs and started barking when she heard someone outside but
we've been working at stopping this and she's picked it up quickly. She's a smart little girl and just as
cute as can be. Her pictures on the site don't do her justice; she has a gorgeous little face and huge
brown eyes that just make you melt and such a petite body that fits nicely on your lap, on a sofa pillow
or at your feet. Zoey continues to do her "circle laps" when she's excited lol and I still laugh every time
that she does it. She's also so sweet and gentle with my grandson and still loves chasing the tires on his
riding toys which he finds
hysterical.
I just can't say enough about this energetic little girl.....if you're looking for a little lovebug that loves
children as well as adults; this is the dog for you.
7/21/06 - I have to tell y'all the latest Zoey story; she's so darned entertaining. My year old grandson
was here and playing out on our breezeway with some of his toys; one being a small Ford truck that
makes lots of noise, has big wheels and the baby can ride it. Zoey found it to be more fun than my
grandson did! LOL As I was pushing Jess on the truck Zoey kept darting at it and barking (which made
my grandson laugh);she discovered that she could bite at the wheels AND make my grandson squeal
with delight all at the same time. It went from that to Zoey taking the plastic fender in her mouth and
moving the truck in another direction! LOL I just stood there and laughed til I cried....she's so funny and
lives life to the fullest; there is NEVER a dull moment with her around. She's extremely gentle and loving
with my grandson....she absolutely loves kissing his face and ears (luckily he loves it too because she
does it a lot.) lol I've also discovered that Sweetpea is fascinated with my broom; chasing that and
barking at it seems almost as much fun as chasing the riding toy( now if I could just get her to sweep......
).
7/15/06 - This little girl is such a sweetie pie and so petite that we decided Sweetpea is a fitting
nickname! She might only weigh forty pounds but she is a little spitfire with boundless energy. She and
my shepherd/husky male don't see eye to eye yet and when he tries putting her in her place (mind you
he weighs about ninety pounds) she will not back down. They've had a few disagreements but I'm sure
that that will stop once she settles in more. She has all ready by-passed my boxer,Jackson, for second
in the pack. He's a very laid back guy so they get along famously; it's a riot to watch them wrestle and
box (keep in mind that Jackson outweighs her by forty-five pounds lol.) NOTHING phases her; she
continues giving as well as taking.
Sweetpea loves to play "chase me" with my husband; she's never willing to quit when he is. LOL She
gets so excited that she is forever doing "circles " lmao; you just can't help but laugh at her...I thought at
first that she was chasing her tail but she's doing the kidney bean dance in SUPER fast mode !!! She
likes being with me (or any one else) and bonds with everyone she meets; once she realizes that they're
OK to be in HER house. She is great about letting me know that someone is outside and is protective
(just not in a bad way). She does bark when she hears something but quiets down when told to. In fact
she sits on command and will stay when told to. She is NOT a beggar at the table but when given a
treat is so gentle. I love petting this little lady; she's so soft and just loves the attention. The longer I
stroke her the more she begins to lean in to my leg and eventually sinks to the floor and is totally
content. She shows no fear of the cleaner, thunder nor the rain. LOL It's strange to have a boxer that
WILL go outside when it's raining. She's very agreeable to doing what she's told, is not bothered by my
interrupting her eating (though she doesn't want to share her food with my two dogs-who can blame
her?-LOL). One more thing then I'll stop bragging on her <grin>...she goes in to the crate (which she
uses only at night) just beautifully. I know that she'd prefer being with us but until she and Hawkeye are
better together she is crated and is SO good about it.
I find it VERY hard to believe that Sweetpea is six (we were told that by the shelter that she was
surrendered to) ......she most definitely looks and acts more like two or three. If you're looking for a fun
boxer this is your little girl; she'll make you laugh AND give you kisses and all the love and devotion you
can ask for.
7/7/06 - Zoey arrived last night (thank you so much to Tony who drove all night!) and is just the
sweetest little thing (and I do mean little.) She was an owner surrender to a shelter because her owners
have a
new landlord who told them the dogs must go. They had another boxer, but placed that boxer
themselves..
Zoey is quite thin but I'm sure that a few weeks with plenty of dog food, treats and probably snacks
dropped by my grandson will make a big difference. Zoey has a long stub of a tail and it's constantly in
motion; she's super friendly and loves any attention that she gets. She has boundless energy....and has
this one cute game where she chases her own tail, round and round she goes...... lol
I know it's way too early to give a full update on what she's like. but she appears to be a boxer girl with
lots of personality that's looking for a family and place to chase her tail that she can call her own. She
sat when told to, is pretty good about coming when called and doesn't bark when crated; nor has she
had any mishaps in the house.
In a few days she'll be introduced to my two "boys" so I'll be able to see how she gets along with other
dogs. She seemed more than thrilled when they greeted her once she'd arrived and was all settled in her
crate; once again...that tail of hers was going non stop!
