10/2/06 - Yancey died this AM from what looked to me like a heart failure or maybe petit mal seizure.
He ate his breakfast, went out to do his business and before he could even lift his leg, he collapsed. Miles
tried rescue breathing and the heart thump. We had no warning, no previous symptoms except that he
didn't like to play with the other dogs and would avoid them and just watch. I always thought it was his
personality, but possibly he knew his limitations.

He will be very much missed in our home. His funny little quirks became endearing after awhile. I still
believe he was much older than we originally thought. He was very much loved and gave much love in
return.

8/12/06 - Yancey is now officially going to be permanently fostered by his foster home.  He is just not
adoptable with his medical condition and his foster family is willing to continue to give him a great life with
them.

10/27/05- Yancey has settled in to his foster home now and we are having less scuffles with the other
dogs. I do think he would be much happier as an "only" pet. He is a gentleman and very calm, however,
he loves to play with humans. He will chase and shake the holey rolley ball as long as you are willing to
throw it for him. Yancey has had quite a few changes in his life and it is understandable that he would be
a little shaken by them. He is definately a changed dog from the foster that was here a year ago. Yancey
is looking for a calm loving home,he loves kids. He is wonderful with my 5 year old son and loves to
snuggle on the couch. He will never be the sort of dog that you can take to a dog park, although he
behaves very well on leash and walking him around other dogs does not appear to be an issue. He
behaves nicely out of the crate and except for stealing a few socks (that should have been in the hamper
anyway!!!) once in a while, is not at all destructive. Yancey is on meds daily for incontinence issues. He
does great on them and is not having any accidents in the house or his crate. He will be on these meds for
the rest of his life. They are very low cost, about $13 a month. What is everyone waiting for?  Yancey is
a wonderful fellow!!!!

9/18/05- Yancey has returned to his foster home due to some unresolved differences with another dog...I
believe that Yancey will need to be an only dog. Since coming here he has had a few scraps with the
resident canines. He is fine for a short period and then feels insecure. He would like a quiet household
where he can be "top dog"  He is still just as wonderful as ever with all humans. He loves his toys and will
play games with you as long as you are willing! Yancey is still on meds for incontinence and will need to
be brought up to date on his shots..we have a vet appointment for Wednesday.

9/4/05 - Yancey was very sadly surrendered to rescue as he & another dog in the house suddenly could
not work out their differences.   Updates soon from his foster home.

UPDATE 6/2/05 -Just an update from Yancey and the gang. We have added a rescued Puggie girl to
our brood and Yancey just loves her to pieces. Out of all four of my fur babies, Yancey is the star pupil!!
The folks at my vet's office think he is just the coolest guy they have seen. His incontinence is under
control, so hardly any accidents at all. He has put on a few pounds and weighs in at 68 pounds now - my
vet says he's perfect (I could have told him that!!). We've expanded his fenced in yard and he loves to
prance around like a pony. He is just too cute for words. Anyhow, spring has arrived, mud season is
over and Yancey is the star of the show!!! What a handsome guy. If I can ever figure out photoshop, I'll
get some pictures for y'all. Have a great summer!

UPDATE 11/26/04 - Yancey is doing wonderful in his new family.  His personality is starting to
blossom.  He loves his boxer fur brother, Mugsy and his wired-for-sound Jack Russell brother, Guthrie.
He truly loves the skin babies too.  His favorite game is "jump on the bed while Mom is trying to change
the sheets" (as many times as possible before she sends him out of the bedroom, and "steal the
mittens/slippers/socks and run around in circles until someone catches you"!!  Yancey greets everyone
with a shy wiggle and gorgeous brown eyes.  He was perfect for the vet and has visited Olivia's
classroom (a K/1/2 classroom with noisy, bouncing children).  He is just awesome. We love him dearly,
thank you all so much.

UPDATE 11/9/04 - Well, our little Yancey boy made the trip from Maine to Vermont last night.  He is a
complete doll and sat on my daughter Emma's lap the entire way.  We crawled along through snow
squalls and on some slightly treacherous roads back to Peacham.  He kissed my ears
for encouragement - he must know how much I hate this weather!! He marked only once in the house
(we expected that) then did his business outside with no problem.  It was fun to watch him as he figured
out that he could just walk out the door into the fenced yard - it took some coaxing, then he realized he
was free to run - cool!!! He will meet the resident fur babies today, so I will keep you all posted as to
how that goes.  I don't expect any problems with this little love.  I wanted to thank you all for helping us
to adopt Yancey and for all the work you do - you are all so awesome.

11/4/04 - Yancey has been adopted!

11/1/04 -   Yancey is wonderful...we are all falling a little bit in love as he comes out of his shell more and
more. He loves playing with the other dogs now and is beginning to gain some weight. Yancey will be on
medication for the rest of his life for incontinence. The meds that he takes are time release capsules and
help him to control his bladder (yeah!!!). They are quite inexpensive, about $10.50 a month. And are
working just great!!! Yancey had tests to make sure that his kidneys and bladder were healthy, they are!!
And blood work to be sure that he isn't diabetic, he isn't!!! So the vet decided to try the medication and
it is a wonderful thing. It's possible that this little problem is the reason that he was left to stray...He was
quite dejected when he first arrived,  ....Yancey feels much better now that he is clean and dry...his
whole personality is blossoming.
He is ready to go home now,....do you have a spot for a really great boxer boy in your home?
Best hurry,..this guy is truly the sweetest!!

10/18/04- Yancey is a "dream come true" boxer boy...It's hard to believe that anyone would ever give
this guy up...he's polite, well mannered, playful when you want him to be and when you say sit , he
sits....and stays until released....someone has worked really hard with this boy! He's fine with cats,
curious, but not a chaser! He hasn't yet met another dog that he doesn't like... and all my dogs appear to
like him, (except Ridley, my other foster, and he doesn't like any other animals). Yancey's only drawback
so far seems to be that he urinates in his crate. I will be taking a urine sample to the vet's tonight. I feel
that it may be an infection and will update on this as soon as we find out. Yancey appears to be more
drawn to women and has become my shadow. He likes my husband well enough but doesn't follow him
around like he does me. He hasn't chewed anything, and we have never heard him growl over anything .
He is great with my three year old. He has greeted every human he's met with a tail wiggle. And here is
the very best thing of all...Yancey is a hugger...he gives the very best boxer hugs ever!!!!  Yancey is now
up to date on shots and neutered. Get those applications in now for this wonderful boy!!!!

10/13/04- Yancey has an appointment at the doggie doctor for his neuter on Friday...I haven't explained
it to him yet and might just keep it a secret until Friday....Yancey is still doing just great here and is right
now on the porch playing with resident boxer ,Brody, and resident pain-in-the-butt puppy, Lucy. Yancey
is a bit more reserved than these two and just watches the wrestling matches. In the morning when
Yancey comes out of his crate, he is very playful, and races up and down the deck doing the boxer bean
dance... I believe that Yancey has had some obedience in his past as he sits the minute he sees the leash,
heels on command and gives paw...he does have a little trouble remembering not to stand up and put his
paws on my shoulders when I'm not expecting it.....We both went "tail over teakettle" this morning. He
listens well and is trying very hard to get over this one stumbling block in his manners.....
Well,... what are you waiting for? Get your applications in for this great guy....he's a sweetie!!!

10/9/04 -  Yancey, has come to us from a wonderful shelter in Connecticut,The name Yancey is Native
American for "white man". He was called Zeus at the shelter.  He is a real sweetheart and he absolutely
loves kids and other dogs!.... He hasn't offered to eat the cats yet, which is a good sign...we will wait a
couple more days before we do any "up close and personal" introductions. He is balking at the crate,(we
will work on this)....And has marked a few spots in my home, which is not unsual for an un-neutered
male. Yancey is about 4 years old, I would guess his weight at about 56lbs, and he really needs to gain a
few pounds....He is white with a brown eye patch. I will be making an appointment for his neuter and
vaccinations.  More to come as we get to know this cutie pie.....
