UPDATE 1/28/07 - meggy and willis are doing wonderful!!!!! of course they are spoiled rotten!!
meggy-she is just in love with my husband mike!!she can't get enough of him!!she is just a perfect angel.
we had blood work done on her and she is borderline for an under active thyroid,so for now we are just
monitering it.no meds yet.willis has to go to the orthopedic in a couple of weeks, but for now he's doing
great and will probably need another surgery in 6-9 months.the 2 of them get along great!!!
we couldn't be happier with our new additions to our family!!! thank you boxer rescue!!!!

UPDATE 12/16/06 - well, i know we're not due for an update yet, but we just couldn't help it....we
cannot thank boxer rescue enough for these 2 angels!!!we drove 8 hours to get them and about 10 hours
to bring them home...(needed more potty stops on the way home!) they were worth every minute!!!!!
they both have so much love to give and so much personality. they get along with each other quite well!
today they went with us to pick out a christmas tree, they had a great time and of course everybody they
met fell in love with them!! meggy is much more social with strangers than willis is, but we figure we'll just
keep taking him out with us to socialize and he'll be fine. watching them "boxer play" is the best!!! no
other dogs play quite like boxers! you would never guess meggy is 8 years old if you saw her play!! they
are both so wonderful!!!!meggy has decided that my husband mike is hers and willis is in love with my
son kyle....looks like we might need 1 more boxer for me!!!they have met many people over the past
couple days...and of course they all tell us how pretty and well behaved they are...then they ask where
we got them...we are proud to tell them we adopted them from second chance boxer rescue!!!!! thank
you again for bringing these 2 angels into our lives!!!they have 100% found they're forever home!! we
love them with all our hearts!!!!!

12/16/06 - Willis has been adopted!

11/7/06 - Please CLICK HERE to see a recent VIDEO of this adorable baby boy in action!

10/19/06 - Willis is such a good boy and such a puppy still.  He's so sad that his forever home has not
come along yet.  He is currently in the WNY area, but he can be adopted anywhere.  He will need to
have an operation done in about 2 months and then another one in 5 or 6 months.  Although it would be
prefered that they be done either in this area or somewhere near Woolwich, ME (due to there being an
orthopedic vet in both places that work with our rescue), he can go anywhere to have these done.
Recuperation time will be minimal.  Please understand, his back hip problems have no way affected his
ability to be a normal happy puppy.  He runs and plays with the best of them. As you can see in the new
pictures, this boy even enjoys his crate!  He has been neutered and is really ready for his own home.
Please consider this sweet good lookin boy!

10/5/06 - Willis continues to grow in leaps and bounds! He will be neutered 10/12 and he weighs
approx 37lbs. He is making good progress on housetraining and has graduated to sleeping freely in the
house with the big kids. He loves all the dogs here and he is very people friendly, but then again, what
pup isn't? His medical condition isn't even a factor for this boy, I do believe that with both surgeries, this
boy will live a long healthy life just like any other Boxer, and remember that both of his surgeries will be
paid for by the generous contributions given to SCBR & that will continue to come in for him.  No out of
pocket expense for you. He especially likes Boscoe, they run in the backyard, Willis takes Boscoe's ball,
he tries to keep it, but Boscoe always wins! He plays and acts completely like a pup should. He has had
two rounds of de-worming, he does have meds for a final round which will be done in another 2 months
already packed in his travel bag. Everyday he becomes more settled in here, it really is in his best
interests to have a forever home of his own now, won't you please consider being Willis's forever family?

8/30/06 - Greetings from the Pup Tent!  Fostermom has been very remiss in sending in an update for this
sweet guy, but I do have a valid excuse.  After having Cesar Millan the dog whisperer in our home via
my TV earlier this month, I decided to put to use some of his tips.  The biggie was "a tired dog is a good
dog", so I started walking Oni our resident visitor terrorizer.  Well, you would think that would be good
enough, but no, not for me, I started riding foster son's huffy up and down the street while Oni would run
along side.  That plan went well for two weeks......until, you guessed it, he decided he wanted to meet
the neighbor's dog.  Off the bike I went, landing on my shoulder then my head.  Lucky for me we were
on grass at that point, but my shoulder became seperated and I have been in a sling since.  Today, it felt
good enough for me to actually type an update with two hands.  Now, about this sweet pup.  Willis has
had on and off bouts of loose stool since he got here, so I got a sample over to the vet and he is now
being dewormed for whip and hooks.  Three days, then again in three weeks and then once more in
three months.  He just wasn't gaining any weight and he had a very healthy appetite, I am actually
relieved it was worms and not colitis or irritable bowel.  Otherwise, he is living the good life and learning
the ropes with the other dogs, both male and female.  His favorite playmate is Boscoe, the 2 1/2yr old
male I "dog sit" for my son.  When Willis first got here, we made a trip to the Orthopedic Vet along with
his X-rays, Dr. said his were the worst set of back hips he had ever seen on a pup that young.  The left
hip is actually so out of place that you can feel it when you pet him.  That hip needs a femoral head and
neck excision.  They will actually cut the head of the femur off, this will be done at around 8-9 months.
The other hip will be re-evaluated at around 12 months and at this point, it looks like he will be a
candidate for a hip replacement.  Both procedures will be paid for by rescue.  His prognosis is for a very
long and happy life.  We have a few dos and don't to follow now, but for the most part, the doc said to
let him do what he wants to do as far as walking, running, playing as we don't want the muscles to
atrophy as they will support the femur all through his life.  For now, you wouldn't even know he has any
problems, he never acts as if they are painful and he isn't taking any meds.  He's just Willis, your typical 5
month old Boxer.  It's not in anyone's best interest for Willis to stay in rescue, he needs to bond with his
own forever family, but you must be willing to get him either to his vet here in the Western New York
area or to another good Orthopedist we work with in Maine when it is time for his surgeries.  For now,
he is still in basic housetraining 101, I don't crate him at night and he does have the occassional accident,
he does crate up very well, never a peep out of him.  He is a laid back kind of Boxer, a comfy couch or
rug is very cool for him.  Due to his age, I would hope that his new home would have someone home
most of the day.  Also, please consider donating to help with his surgeries, without SCBR, this loving
baby wouldn't have got his second chance.

8/3/06 - I took Willis to the ortho vet today along with his Xrays.  Dr said it was the worst cast of hip
dysplasia he had ever seen in such a young pup. He said they were severely malformed.  Anyway, this is
what he said:

Left back hip:  this hip is not a candidate for hip replacement.  As of right now, the hip is totally displaced
and there is not enough socket to put it back into or make one.  He is a perfect candidate for FHO
surgery.  Here is a great link about it.  www.vetsurgerycentral.com/fho.htm  He said that would be done
after re-Xrays around 9 months old and should be successful.

Right back hip:  This ball and socket are out of line, but this hip might be a good candidate after
re-Xraying around 12 months old.

Right now, he said to leash walk him, let him run if he wants to, and swim him.  The idea is to let the
body weight be held up by the water because we do not want the muscles that are there and that will
support the femur to atrophy, they are vital to his well being as he ages.  He also did not recommend any
kind of pain control at this young age but Willis also doesn't really seem to be showing any signs of pain.
He said it has to hurt, the left ball is actually rubbing bone on bone all the time.

The estimate for SCBR's cost for ONLY his left back hip is about $1,200. If you can help
Willis, even $5 or $10 helps!

8/2/06 -
I would like to introduce our newest SCBR Boxer, Willis. Willis is 4 months old and was born
with no hip sockets in the back end. Please keep him in your thoughts tomorrow and send him good
vibes, he's
visiting the orthopedic vet here for a consultation to see what prognosis will be.  We are hopeful for a hip
replacement or some kind of something that can be done in a few months when he is done growing.  He
is a real doll!  He is a welcome diversion here right now and my Boxers seem to sense he's not right, they
are very good and gentle with him.
Willis is going to need over
$2000 in surgeries to get better!

If you can help Willis, even $5 or
$10 helps. Thank you!
