UPDATE 11/23/06 - Stretchy is doing great here in his new home.  He's enjoying our daughter and
sleeping on our bed already.  He follows us around and wants to be around one of us all the time.  He
enjoys long walks and snuggly naps.  He's only been here for 4 days and we love him so much.  Stretch
has LOTS of energy, but so does our daughter, so they are really good for each other.  He also enjoys
playing with dolls, sniffing legos, and un-making beds.  Just yesterday he fell asleep, upside down, half
in my lap.  The funniest part is that when he's on his back, it makes him sneeze.  I think I know why he
has the name he was given - he likes to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out whereever he's laying and when he's on his
tummy, his back legs are generally straight out behind him.  By the way, he's likely the fastest dog we've
ever had....   More to come later!

11/20/06 - Stretch has been adopted!

10/2/06 - I was dropping off some SCBR store stuff to Nora this past Saturday & she said I had to
come see Stretch again & how great he is.  Well, this boy is SOOOOO sweet & funny & cute, I
cannot believe he has not been scooped up yet!   He showed off for me & ran like a jackrabbit outside
& showed me how he LOVES to "fly" by springing himself off the top of the 4-5 steps, sailing in the air
& then landing several feet away!   He has a huge smile on his face when he does this & his tongue is
flapping in the wind! LOL  He would probably make a great frisbee dog. :)   Even though he has these
wild spurts of energy, he is a very sweet & gentle boy.  When he gets overly excited, you just need to
tell him to settle down & to not nibble your hands with excitement & he does.  I think with a little
obedience training & more exercise (need a jogging partner!?), he will be an even better dog. He is also
much cuter than his pictures show & not a very big boy either, just the right size.   So what are you
waiting for, don't let Stretch get away!

8/22/06 It's hard to believe Stretchy has been here almost a month! I will post some better photos
soon, my camera is giving me some trouble.
Stretch has been a very nice guest here at the Last Resort. He has met my submissive (handicapped)
male boxer without incident; unfortunately there is no dog here suited for him to play with. Stretch might
do best as an only dog, at least until he has had some obedience training. He still tends to use his mouth
and play very rough with us; another dog might take exception to that at times. He has lots of energy
and is really fun to watch racing and leaping about. He would be a great frisbee dog! His favorite game
is leaping as far as he can off the steps/platform in my livingroom! He does the same coming back up,
never even touching the steps! He scooches down and runs like a jackrabbit sometimes, it's very funny.
Stretch needs a firm handler, someone with some dog experience. Generally when we foster a young
male in need of some "manners" we do not mind holding or rolling the dog to show a bit of human
dominance, but Stretch doesn't do very well with that...he doesn't snap or anything, he just responds
better to gentleness and coaxing. It calms him and helps him to obey. I think he was allowed to play
very rough as a pup and then hollered at for being that way in his first home, so he definitely needs a
different type of handling! He is smart and responsive, and in need of bonding to a human. Because he
continues to be possessive of toys and treats, mainly with the other dogs, I would avoid having him on a
regular basis with younger children. I think teenaged boys would be ideal, providing they play with him
in a constructive way, such as a tug game or fetch with a ball or toy, rather then wrestling. He is just too
rough to be allowed to wrestle with people. He LOVED my year-old grandson when he was here over
the weekend. He licked his hands and got all wiggly, so I know he likes babies, but with supervision.
He is a very good boy about crating, especially for a biscuit-filled Kong or a slice of cheese!

7/25/06 Finally a moment to catch everyone up on our latest cutie, Stretch! What a sweet boy he is!
While we think Stretch may have more than boxer in him, he does play like a boxer,  throwing his paws
and play bowing! He's doing well on his crate training, quickly going back in his crate for a treat. We
are being cautious around his food and treats as the shelter had reported that he was protective of his
food, and I would have to agree with that to some extent. Since I always allow my own dogs some
"personal space" when they eat or have treats, it's not really a problem. Caution with young children
who might not know to keep away might be needed.  He did not want to give me a toy last night, but I
think with proper training and time he can be taught to drop a toy or other object for his master. He is
really very friendly, but no one has worked with him on his manners. He has no qualms hopping up on
the couch for a hug or a wrestling match! He loves attention and responds readily to positive
reinforcement. Stretch is at just the age where he needs consistent and good human guidance to be the
great dog he most definitely has the potential to be! Is that person you?

7/22/06 - TRANSPORTERS COMMENTS:

We finished the transport for these Stretch & Dolley and they were everything Anne said. Stretch did
finally calm down and went to sleep next to Mike after giving many boxer kisses and trying to get him to
play in the back seat. He just loves people and is a very handsome boy.

Both dogs will make some family very happy. It was a pleasure to help them get into rescue. Also very
nice to see Richard and Anne again on our travels for SCBR. Hope to again soon.

Here are some pics from yesterday's transport. Both dogs were awesome. They behaved really well
together, especially since they'd never even met before!

Stretch was a bundle of energy...John and Char can attest to the fact that he LOVES stuffed toys. We
all watched as he pulled the stuffing out of the toy they'd given him in 2 seconds flat!! He's also a big
love - if you could add all of the dog kisses I've received in the past year together, I'm still not sure
they'd come close to the kisses this guy gave me yesterday!! He also has the softest boxer fur I've ever
felt - I could rub his head all day!!
