UPDATE 9/28/07 - Separation has been a big problem from the start but a year later we are sighing
with relief. She is doing very well when we leave I guess it took a year to figure things out for her. Now
if only we could get the barking under control. She certainly gives this granny a workout. All in all she is
such a sweetheart and a great companion to our other baby and my husband and I. The leaves are
starting to fall, ask me how I know, she barks at them as they fly down. Just can"t wait for the
snowflakes to start falling.
UPDATE 3/10/07 - Shelby, Shelby, Shelby what can I say? She is the sweetest, smartest and biggest
girl we"ve ever had. But that doesn"t stop her from being a lap dog. She is still having problems with
separation anxiety but it is getting better so there is a light at the end of that tunnel. She does have one
fault though, she will get me out of bed anytime during the night to go out and as I get to the outside
door, brrrrrr, she jumps into my bed instead. Shes a cutie!
UPDATE 12/10/06 - Shelby is such a sweet boxer. She adjusted to our home immediately. She does
have separation anxiety as you know but thanks to all for suggestions she seems to be adjusting and
isn"t as upset to our parting. Over the past 3 months we laughed and were amused by her actions but
NO MORE. She was just taking everything in for her own knowledge. There isn"t a door she can"t
open (unless locked)a drawer she hasn"t gone through or a closet she hasn"t gotten into. She is ONE
SMART COOKIE. She can jump in place higher than our fence which is is 6ft so putting anything out
of her reach is almost impossible. When we are home she doesn"t touch a thing, what a little (85 lbs
little) angel she is. Our Christmas tree has been up since thanksgiving and we"ve had our differences
over that, with a deep breath and a prayer we leave our home. We just love her and so does Cindy.
UPDATE 10/26/06 - Shelby has certainly livened up this retired family. She has certainly brought life
to our 2 yr old boxer. By the second day it was like she was always here, she knows our daily routines
like she was brought up in our home. Her first day she had one accident but then I don"t know if I could
even call it that as it was out on the deck with trees all around her so I figured she must have thought she
was outside in a place that was ok. She has BIG TIME separation problems which we are working on.
We"ve gone through with 2 of our dogs who did get better over the years which made it tolerable for all
but never did they get over it entirely. So we are hoping that will be the case with her. She just loves
those car rides and romping in the yard with cindy. She knows her commands if she can just stop
wiggling long enough to go through with them. They share the bedroom with us (which is really nice of
them)but our bed is just getting smaller and smaller as they both weigh over 80 lbs so two of us have to
go, which two do you think it wil be? She has also learned that if you sit with the master during basball
games there are treats, yum yum! What more can I say we just love her.
9/06 - Shelby has been adopted!
9/18/06 - Shelby is back in rescue due to her new mom having allergic reation to her. They said she
was a great dog with the kids and did really well in the house. Shelby has some real seperation issues.
She needs a home where she can be with someone most of the time. She would love to be able to go to
work with you, love walks and car rides. Shelby will get out of my fence and come looking in the
windows like let me in , let me in. She is not a dog that will run off, she will stick around the yard as she
doesn't want to be far from her people. Shelby likes other dogs and has good manners. She really
needs a special home where someone can deal with her seperation issues. Shelby is crateable and must
be crated when no one is home. She is not trustworthy to be left alone in the house. Shelby is still a
puppy, she wants to learn, she is very smart and will make a great dog for the right family.
9/16/06 - Shelby was adopted!
9/8/06 - Shelby is an owner surrender, she came into rescue last night. Her family had some trouble
with her energy level, dad had to go off to war and mom was home with a new baby another child and
another dog. They decided it was best for Shelby to go where she could have more attention and more
room to exercise. Her human sisiter sent her with her favorite blanket and a picture of them together. It
was so cute. She was one loved and cared for girl.
This is one BIG girl not overweight just big. I truely could not believe the size of her. She is very cute
and very friendly. She greeted me at the door all wiggles. The 7 yr old girl was laying across her,
hugging her and hanging all over her and Shelby was in heaven. She lived with another female boxer that
she got along great with. I have not introduced her to my dogs yet. Shelby does not like to be alone and
can be distructive when left alone. She did fine in the crate last night but does not like it. I think she can
be crated without much trouble but would do best in a home where she does not need to be crated
much as she is not use to it. Shelby is up to date on all her shots, on heartworm preventative and
already spay. She does well in the car and with every person she has met. Do you have an active home,
some kids to play with and someone around alot? Well this just might be the girl for you!
