UPDATE 1/1/07 - Sarah has been with us now for six weeks and she is doing great. We just love her
so much. After a long trip from NH to western NY she met our 12 year old German Shepard. There
were a few growls but now they are fine.
We have only had two problems so far. She is an early riser. She is ready to go at 6:00 am and wants
to play and go out. If you don't get her out she will leave a puddle on the floor. She is getting better at
sleeping in more as time goes by.
She is also very shy. She is terrified of new places and people. Aparently she was crated much of the
time with her previous owner so she has had very little socialization. I take her to work with me and
everytime the doorbell rings she runs to see who it is then runs away (I guess thats better than scaring
the customers)
We start Obedience Training in January. Maybe that will help with the socialization.
11/18/06 - Sarah has been adopted!
11/13/06 - She is a very sweet baby and has an "I wanna be your princess" face. After spending
yesterday and today trying to socialize her with my two boxers I do believe she would be best suited as
the first dog for someone or as an only dog. She has a wonderful loving personality, we have
nicknamed her Sarah ean because when she gives the boxer wiggles in the kidney bean position she
looks just like one! She has been great with my two daughters ages 7 & 9, no problems at all with
children.
I have noticed she is a bit bossy and will get quite fiesty if one of the dogs goes near her crate for a toy.
She also tends to become defensive and aggressive during busy boxer play. She's not used to other
dogs running
around her or trying to put their paws on her and she doesn't care for that. She doesn't want the other
dogs telling her what to do and is the first to growl when they come close so I am having to keep them
seperated a bit more than I would like. I do know that out of a situation with other dogs she has an
absolutely perfect personality.
She will definately benefit from some schooling as she does not know basic commands such as "sit" or
"heel". She pulls pretty strong on the leash but is already responding well to "heel". I am planning on
working with her one on one while my girls are in school tomorrow.
She is housebroken, however I believe keeping her on a schedule is best. I think she was let outside to
go at her convenience and so when I take her out she will often stand and not know that it is her time to
go potty. I
have been bringing her out regularly and rewarding with treats as soon as she does her business. She's
catching on fast that "out" means "potty".
This little beauty is going to find someone right away, with her princess charm and boxer lovin'
personality, she'll melt someone's heart and be the baby girl they've been searching for. She will make
someone's life VERY happy!
11/13/06 - Night number two went fine, Sarah still shows aggression when the other dogs come near
me if she's with me or if they go near a toy that she is playing with. "Trigger" situations like the kids
coming home or when the household noise level goes up and all dogs get excited seems to make her
defensive as well so I am keeping a close eye on that and seperating her during busy times. She does
not show aggression towards people at all, only other dogs. Her personality outside of other dogs being
near is very sweet. she wants to be by your side ALL the time, a little shadow. I will often find her up
against my leg when I stop and stand for a bit. She loves to be close, put her head on your shoulder and
give tons of boxer kisses!
11/11/06 - Sarah made it to NH today. Quite a car trip but she did fine. Didn't know much about riding
and some noises like the window going up or down or louder car going by startled her a bit but she
loved it
that I kept petting her the whole time. If I would stop she would look up at me with those bright brown
eyes as if to say "Could you keep doing that please, it really makes me feel better".
Right now we are very slowly working on acclemating her with my two, Rain and Hudson. We spent
about two hours and now both Rain and Sarah are out of the crates following each other around the
house establishing the pecking order. It's very fun to watch. Sarah will go to her crate, grab a toy and
bring it to me or to Rain then won't ask Rain for it back. Rain very quickly told her that she would be
Alpha female. Rain is a three and a half year old flashy brindle that has been with me since 8 weeks so
she's the queen of the house. I
will let Hudson, my two and a half year old all white male out a little later. I'm sure he will do fine also.
Just wanted everyone to know she made it here great. Thank you to Janet for driving her and waiting
for me when I went too far up the highway (smile). Sarah is SO SO SO beautiful. I'm sure she will find
a forever home in no time flat!
I am going to go take pictures so we can get them posted and get this girl home for good. She's
beautiful, very sweet loving face full of Boxer kisses. And now as I finish writing this, she's curled up at
my feet. Too Cute!!
