UPDATE 4/10/06 - Hello All!
Ruby is doing absolutely wonderful! She has been such a love! It is so cute to see her play with our
other boxer Onyx. They would definately be lost without eachother! When the two of them are
outside on the back deck, Ruby will only sit down ON TOP of Onyx, and neither of them think
anything of it! It is quite comical to watch!
Ruby does not care for our cat, Spencer, whatsoever!
But I must say that she is listening alot better now and loves to run in the woods and she ALWAYS
comes when called!
In the begining we were a little unsure as to wheather Ruby would work out with our family, but we
have invested alot of time with her, trying to make her feel secure with us and just loving her and making
her feel loved. I am so glad that we didn't give up on her! She is just such a sweet and mellow girl, and
I think she now KNOWS that we are her "forever-famil" and that she is not going anywhere!
We just celebrated our son's 1st birthday a few weeks back, and we had 35 guests (17 of them
children) and she was calm and loving all of the attention and affection from everyone, but especially the
kids!
She is certainly rewarding our entire family with her love, kisses, and of course, lots of Boxer-wiggles!
Thanks to you all who help keep this wonderful organization going and giving these precious dogs a
new lease on life! You are all great!
UPDATE 11/16/06 - Hello,
Sorry for the overdue update on Ruby. We had taken a family vacation to Georgia (dogs in tow) and
had realized that it was time to send in our update.
Ruby is doing great! She is such a love and very loyal!
Just 10 days before we went to Georgia, we took Ruby to the vet because she was wetting her bed
every night and it turns out she has a UTI. Poor baby! She was prescribed an antibiotic. The vet said
that it was most likely due to an infection from her spay, but if her symptoms persist, that could mean
she has diabetes.
She has finished her meds and all seems to be good so far.
Ruby is not doing so well with her obedience trainer and we don't think she is the right trainer for Ruby,
but we are working with her on our own and she responds wonderfully.
Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to adopt such a lovely and affectionate girl. We feel
that she has been the perfect addition to our family and has made all of us so happy!
Sorry for the late update.
UPDATE 9/28/06 - Ruby is such a LOVE! She has adjusted extremely well! She is such a doll. And
just like our 5 year-old boxer; SUCH a people pleaser. Our older boxer, Onyx is very protective of
Ruby. The Fed-Ex driver came to deliver a package and Onyx stood in front of Ruby and gave a
"warning growl" at the driver. The two of them are like two peas in a pod.
Ruby has recovered wonderfully from her spay and her hair has fully grown back. She has also put on
some weight, but she is getting alot of exercise here. It's good for Onyx because he is overweight.
Since Ruby arrived, I think he has lost 6 lbs. She is active and playful and we can definately tell that she
feels very secure in her "forever" home. She loves the woods behind our house. We have 5 acres, and
4 of them are woods, so she loves to go exploring.
We have had a few obedience classes, and she seems to do well, although I think she responds a lot
better to my husband and I than she does to the trainer. We work with her for 1 hour split up
throughout the day every day.
It is so funny to see Ruby with our 2 1/2 year old daughter. They have the same mind-set and are the
best of friends. She is so.... gentle around our 6 mo. old as well, and very protective of him
We just recently bought her a bright orange vest since hunting season is approaching, and a little
sweater. She loves "dressing up."
Her favorite place to sit is on Onyx's head! It is quite a sight!
We are all so thankful for this organization and are so happy to have Ruby. It makes us feel so good
having a dog from a rescue org. Thank you so much for keeping SCBR going. If we had a bigger
house we would definately adopt more.
8/30/06 - Ruby has been adopted!
7/20/06 - Ruby made her way to my favorite vet today. She weighed in at 41 pounds, is heartworm
negative and is now up to date on vaccinations. We found out the cause of her skin issues is
Demodectic mange. She begins treatment tomorrow and the vet feels she will be free of those nasty
little mange mites is 6 weeks or so. Once the Demodex is taken care of we will schedule her spay.
The vet techs all commented on how cute she is and that she has the most adorable face. She has lots
of wrinkles that give her character. She was very nicely behaved at the vet office. She rides well in the
car too. Ruby is pretty calm for a puppy of her age. She isn't much of a jumper and hasn't had any
accidents in the house. She has been very friendly with everyone she meets from little kids to adults.
She is fabulous with all 4 of my dogs. Ruby and my 11 month old pup are best of pals. Ruby absolutely
loves to drink and play with the hose water as I am watering. This is her idea of big fun, she has a blast.
She's a great little puppy that is going to make some lucky family very happy.
7/18/06 - Ruby arrived today from one of our favorite shelters. She is a 6 month old owner surrender
to the shelter. She has some skin issues that need to be addressed so the shelter staff called SCBR to
help. Ruby's previous owners have never taken her to a vet so we will get her checked out right away.
She also needs a rabies vaccine and spay.
Ruby is an absolute doll. She is fawn with a black mask, white on her chest and on the tips of her toes.
She has been very good all day and seems to be happy to be back in a home. She is very friendly and
great with my 11 year old daughter. Tomorrow we will see how she does with my son who is almost 4.
I don't anticipate any problems, this girl is definitely a lover. She's been friendly with the other dogs in
her foster home through the crate and gate. She also road nicely for the 1 1/2 hour ride from the shelter.
I brought a Pug
back for another rescue and she was fine with having a furry passenger along for the ride.
Ruby is going to make a nice addition to a home that has the time to commit to a puppy. More updates
and pictures coming soon.
