1/28/06 - Ronan was adopted!
1/10/06 - Ronan made the long trip to Maine to the Boxer Oasis foster home on Sunday thanks to his great
transport volunteers & his last foster Mom! He is a very TINY little guy, he does look like a puppy! He is so cute,
his new pictures show that better, & he loves riding in the car. He met my cats briefly Sunday night & did not show
much interest in them at that time. He whined a little about being in his crate, but he settled down soon & slept for
the night.
Yesterday after I got home from work I had some time to spend with him more & I found out what a FUNNY boy he
is! Since it was too cold outside we went down to the basement to play & I found a tennis ball was a cool toy to
Ronan. He ran around & around the basement playing keep away with me, stopping every so often to drop the ball
& put his butt up in the air & do the "play bow" & bark at me to catch him or throw the ball. Then he would bounce in
the air & be off & running again! LOL It sure was a site to see! He was so happy to be playing & running around.
The other funny thing he does is when he wants your attention & in middle of playing he will stand straight, raise
his head & start "WOO, WOO, WOO!"-ing at you! It was a riot & I would just start laughing at him & get him going
again around the basement for a run. Of course my big kitty, Dude, didn't think this game was fun & thought I
needed to be protected from the crazy boxer boy & would antagonize Ronan. Ronan was great, just curious, but
tried to play with Dude, which was not a good idea! LOL A few swats & a few backwards jumps from Ronan & I
had to tell them both to cut it out. Dude didn't think this was fun, contrary to Ronan's ideas at the time! :) I think he
is going to be fine with the cats & learn to respect them very quickly as I was downstairs doing laundry & Ronan
was up with the cats, I heard a big YELP & down came Ronan at 100 mph with a cat in chase! You would have
thought a lion was chasing him!
After he gets more acquainted with my dogs & fosters in the house through the crates, I will try to introduce Ronan
to the females in my house to see how he does with them. More updates soon on Ronan!
12/29/05 - Ronan did very well at the kennel while I went away over Christmas. He had a better vacation than I did!
Popcorn and a movie, doggie ice skating, all sorts of goodies. No accidents or separation anxiety. The kennel folks
noticed he growled and took tough-guy stances toward 2 female dogs and was very territorial about "his" kennel
space. He is definitely a people dog, needs his own space, and loves a good chase with a toy. People can't get
over how small in stature he is and also his gorgeous brindle coat. So he's kind of a perpetual puppy. I've noticed
when he is upstairs and my dogs are separate, Ronan is very good about playing with just his own toys. He
ignores the other dogs' toys and the occasional stuffed animal my son leaves out. Ronan also knows "paw" and
gives a nice pawshake. Please welcome in the new year and give this guy all the hugs and wiggles he longs to
give you!
11/25/05 - Ronan enjoyed his Thanksgiving. He's almost done with his meds and I can already see he's filled out
a little. He even enjoyed a little home cooked turkey. He loves carrying his rope/fuzzy toy that a transporter gave him
and likes to chase fuzzy and non-fuzzy balls. He seems to prefer fuzzy ones. At this time he should be placed with
a family with no other dogs. I think he had too much stress being transferred from shelter to shelter due to
overcrowding. He learns commands very well, and is very treat motivated. He also is pretty calm now when I crate
him while I go out, whines a little but I haven't seen any chewing or houdini escape attempts. He doesn't jump up
or try to "hug" you when you greet him, or pull as much on lead anymore. He is small enough even my six year old
can walk him. So I think he'd be good for a family with kids because he doesn't bowl them over the way over happy
boxers sometimes do. Get this guy the best Christmas/Hanukkah present ever -- YOU!
11/22/05 - Ronan is a handsome little fellow. He was a stray to a shelter we work with. He was just neutered
and we discovered the reason he is so thin is he is chock full of worms (No nuts, though!). He is on medication
now, so that way the food gets to him and not snarfed by freeloaders. Ronan is thin but doesn't look sickly. He is
small built to begin with and has a very nice soft brindle coat. Because of the worm treatment, I am keeping him
isolated completely from my other dogs. He met 2 of them very briefly and liked my girl dog, but growled at the boy
dog when the boy got too close to his face. According to the shelter he was fine with other dogs. He loves children,
loves to put his head in your lap (if it weren't for my truck console and huge coffee mug in the way, he would have
weasled his little body onto my lap while I was driving him to the vets. He's very quiet, not much of a barker or
whiner, and loves to run. He pulls on lead a bit but nothing obedience and practice won't fix. He's a quick learner -
when he growled at Tyson I firmly said "Ronan, leave it" and he backed down, turned, and looked at me up at me
with that "I know I did wrong, mommy" look. He doesn't seem interested in toys(yet), but loves bones. So if you
want a mini wiggly boy, get yourself a Ronan!
