9/28/06 - After 9 months & the many ups & downs that his foster family has gone through with Rocco's health, they
have realized Rocco IS already home. He will be staying with his foster family. Congrats to both them and to
Rocco!
9/16/06 - Rocco has come through his heartworm ordeal with flying colors. He is back to his old self playing with
his stuffed toys and the other dogs! He still expects to get the canned food which i used as a treat for taking his
medicine lol! Rocco is a loving protective snuggle bunny. When I am playing with my boxer Ice and he starts to
bark and jump around, Rocco will walk over and put himself between me and Ice it is too funny! Rocco loves to lay
on top of me, if I am laying on the couch he will lay on my stomach and chest and go to sleep! My vet said he
doesn't see dogs too often that he would like to keep but Rocco he would if he didn't already have two dogs (darn)
Rocco's one and only fault is he don't like cats but don't let that stop you from wanting him he is a keeper!
9/7/06 - Rocco is doing much better. He is done with his antibiotics but is still on the steroids for another two
weeks. Rocco goes back to the vet on the 11th to get his intercepter pill to kill the larvae of the heart worm
disease then he will be free to go to his forever home. So get ready and ask for Rocco!
8/27/06 - Rocco has run into more complications he has very bad inflammatory infection from the heart worm. At
first they thought it was pneumonia but further x rays proved to be inflammatory so he is being treated with strong
antibiotics and steroids to help him get better. Let me tell you he looked like he was on deaths door before this
treatment, now he has perked up and is eating well. He goes back for a re-check Monday so hopefully we have
nipped this in the bud!
8/11/06 - Rocco was coughing and gagging so i took him to the vet, the vet said he heard wet sounds when he
listened to Rocco's heart and lungs which means the heart worms are trying to come out too many at a time into
the blood stream and caused a small clot. He is on meds to help with this and hopefully help Rocco recover fully
from this yukky heart worm. He goes to the vet again today to see if the meds are working. Cross your fingers.
8/3/06 - Rocco had his first two shots and is relaxing and doing well so far! He goes back for a check up on the
14th and then in 4 weeks from there for his third shot. It was hard when he went for the first two because he had
to stay 2 1/2 days and we missed him lol! The other dogs seem to know he needs to relax and are leaving him
alone, see Rocco goes crazy in a crate so we need to keep him on a leash and just keep him quiet that way. Its a
pain in the rear but we have to do what we have to do to get him better! More info as we know it.
7/21/06 - WE FINALLY GOT THE NEWS ON ROCCO'S HEAD X-RAYS(THE VET WAS WORRIED HE MAY HAVE
HAD A BRAIN TUMOR) AND THEY ARE CLEAR! HOORAY! BUT NOW WE NEED TO DEAL WITH THE
HEARTWORM ISSUE. :( DUE TO THE FACT THEY DONT HAVE THE TREATMENT DRUGS IN STOCK BECAUSE
OF A LARGE NUMBER OF CASES THAT HAVE COME THROUGH THE OFFICE, HE WILL START TREATMENT
NEXT MONDAY. THEN HE WILL NEED TO BE KEPT VERY CALM FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS UNTIL THE FULL
TREATMENT IS DONE. AFTER THAT ROCCO WILL BE READY AGAIN TO GO TO HIS NEW HOME!
7/11/06- Rocco had some blood work done to see if anything else was going on with this canine vestibular
disease and it came back positive for heartworm! :( We will need to do some more testing on his current
problem and he will need to go to a specialist for some neurological tests. Once that is under control, he will be
starting treatment for the heartworm. Hopefully he will be back to his normal snuggle bunny self soon! Will update
when i know more, say a prayer for Rocco.
7/2/06- Rocco is having a small problem, he has canine vestibular disease and its been 2 weeks now. The vet
says it will clear on its own that it has to do with the inner ear and has put him on anti-biotics, he seems to be
doing well and is dying for a forever home! He has been very playful with his new favorite toy (he loves the
squeeky stuffed animals) Rocco is an awesome dog and very loveable and attentive. He really deserves a loving
home and it could be you! So ask about Rocco today and make him and yourself happy! More to come on his
condition he has a vet appointment Friday the 7th so I will post again after his appointment.
6-9-06 - Rocco is doing Great, I introduced him to the newest member of the family (ice) and he doesn't
appreciate little dogs he snapped at him so needless to say they are separate at all times just in case, I think he
thinks Ice is a cat but soon he will be big enough to try again. He doesn't care for my mothers little shitzu either so
i think it's the little dog looks like a cat thing lol Rocco continues to play with his frisbees and his kong toy but he
is really looking forward to a forever home If your holding back because of his age please don't he is a young 5-6
yr old, he loves to play in the yard and like i said those frisbees are his favorite! Please consider this gentle giant
as your new companion he deserves a chance!
5/18/06- WHAT CAN I SAY THAT ISNT OBVIOUS, ROCCO IS AN AWESOME DOG, HE IS GOOD WITH THE OTHER
3 DOGS IN THE HOUSE AND EVEN PLAYS SOMETIMES WITH THEM. I DONT THINK HE IS SURE WHAT TO DO
BUT HE TRIES! HE HAS BEEN HERE TOO LONG. HE SHOULD HAVE A FOREVER HOME BY NOW HE IS SO
SWEET! HE HAS TAUGHT MY BOXER TO CHEW ON THE FRISBEES SO NOW IF ONE ISNT CHEWING THE
OTHER IS LOL! THATS ALOT OF FRISBEES WE GO THROUGH LOL! ROCCO LIKES TO SNUGGLE ON THE
COUCH AND IN YOUR LAP IF YOU LET HIM, HE LOVES ATTENTION! ROCCO WANTS YOU TO KNOW HE
IS WAITING PATIENTLY FOR YOU TO CALL ABOUT ADOPTING HIM, BUT HURRY HE DESERVES A FOREVER
HOME!
4/27/06 - Rocco is doing Great! He doesnt bother the cat as much but....... needless to say there would be big
trouble in little china if the cat were to ever come down stairs! Rocco loves to play with frisbees we've been
through 5 or 6 since he has been here if your not throwing it for him he is chewing on it!! Rocco is such a good
boy, very gentle and loving a real snuggle bunny if you let him! He loves to play with socker balls too but we don't
allow ball playing in the house lol! Rocco loves all people and loves my daughter he waits at the bottom of the
stairs for her to get up in the morning its so cute! All in all Rocco is a gentle mellow guy looking for a forever
home!
3/28/06 - Rocco continues to flourish here with the 2 resident dogs and loves to play with his kong toys. He has a
wiggle-butt everytime you throw one for him and he can catch them mid air if you throw it to him! Rocco is great
when company comes over and gets along with all humans and dogs. He is waiting patiently for you to come get
him and take him to his forever home so he can settle in and live happily ever after!
2/22/06 - Rocco continues to be obsessed with the cat but is doing well with everything else. I had to buy some
new frisbees and he has only gone through 1 so far lol Thank goodness for biglots!Rocco loves to play and sleep
he dont really play much with the other dogs but doesnt mind them either. He loves to put his head on your lap
then work his way up half in your lap getting his head and ears rubbed. He is an awesome dog and deserves a
good home soon. There is nothing wrong with him other than the cat issue so hurry and get your application in for
this keeper.
1/31/06 - Hi all, Rocco here. Just wanted to let you all know I am doing great! My foster mom says I should be
getting a forever home soon cause I am such a good boy! Boy do I love my frisbees, I woke up this morning at 7
am wanting to play and mom was drinking her coffee what ever that is. Yet she still played a little frisbee with me
in between sips. There is this thing called a cat here that I want to play with so much but he dont want to play with
me, he runs like the dickens when I get near him! Oh well, I have mom to play with she lets me put my head in her
lap all the time and she rubs my ears and ooh it feels soooo good! I am just a big snuggle bunny and love to
curl up on the couch if you let me, I'm not suppose to here because its new furniture but sometimes the little girl
here lets me snuggle on the couch with her, dont tell foster mom though or we will all be in trouble lol! Well, I'm
gonna see if I can catch that cat see ya soon, Rocco!
1/20/06- Rocco continues to do well and is trying to play with the resident dogs. He discovered the cat yesterday
and i dont think he will do well with a cat in the house. He is not mean to the cat but the cat didnt take any
chances as he was obssessed after seeing the cat. Rocco is a gentle but playful dog and loves frisbees and
kongs, although the frisbees wont last long as he likes to stop and chew for awhile lol. I think who ever ends up
with Rocco will be lucky and very happy with him, he is an awesome dog!
1/19/06- Rocco is doing well here after coming back to rescue. He does not like the crate and barks to let you
know this. He is such a sweet soul and loves attention! I still have him on a leash around the other dogs here just
to make sure he knows they are not gonna bully him around and he gets special attention being on a leash , it
keeps him close to me. He is an awesome dog and needs a family who can give him the attention and
understanding he craves! More to come as I get to know him better.
1/16/06 - Rocco (formerly Partner) is back in rescue to find a new home. He was not fitting in with his last home
and they now have a new baby on the way and didn't know how he would do with that. Watch for updates soon
from his new foster home.
UPDATE 12/15/05 - Hi- We took Rocco to the vet again this morning. He has to remain on antibiotics for his skin
because therwe is still some yeast and bacteria. We have been bathing him evry week to 2 weeks, but he still has
some. His fur is growing back nicely on his face and head, but his ears won't fill in. We also had to put him on a
medicated shampoo leave on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse every week. (chlorhexiderm) It also helped with the
odor he has. The vet wants him to return for some tests for his thyroid. I kind of figured his excessive sleeping
wasn't due to an adjustment period, but we gave it almost 2 months to be sure. Now, his shedding has gotten a
lot worse. You can just pet him and hair comes off non-stop. The vet didn't like how much he shed just on the
table. He has no bald spots, and no wt. Loss. He was 68 pounds today. No lack of appetite either. Then after we
get his tests done, we need to have his lump on his Rt. hind leg removed under anesthesia. They feel it should
be biopsied to be safe. From the looks of his teeth, they estimate his age from 2-4, But by his body and visual
assessment, both of the vets that see him say 6-8. So we really don't know. I'm kind of concerned, and hope he
will be okay. More to come!
UPDATE 12/12/05 - PARTNER AKA ROCCO, IS DOING ALL-RIGHT. WE TOOK HIM TRICK OR TREATING WITH
US, AND EVERYONE THAT PASSED LOVED HIM. HE DOES GREAT ON WALKS, AND HE JUST LOVES TO PLAY
WITH MY SON'S BASKETBALL IN THE YARD. WE'VE GONE THROUGH 2 ALREADY. HE WENT TO THE VET AND
HAD TO BE PUT ON ADDITIONAL ANTIBIOTICS FOR HIS BITES ON HIS HEAD AND FACE FROM HIS FOSTER
BROTHER. HE PROBABLY WON'T GET HIS FUR BACK THE VET SAID, BUT 6-8 WEEKS OF PILLS WERE
NEEDED. WE ARE GOING TO THE VET AGAIN TOMORROW TO HAVE 2 LUMPS ON HIS LEGS CHECKED. ONE
ON HIS RT, HIND AND ONE ON HIS LT. FRONT. HE PRETTY MUCH SLEEPS ALL THE TIME AND IS A COUCH
POTATO. WE THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE CHANGE WHEN WE FIRST GOT HIM, BUT IT'S BEEN 2
MONTHS AND HE STILL LAYS AROUND. WE CRATE HIM WHILE WE'RE GONE, NOT BECAUSE HE'S BAD, BUT
BECAUSE I DID WITH ALL MY DOGS. NOT TO MENTION OUR SECURITY SYSTEM GOES OFF IF WE DON'T
BECAUSE HE'S SO BIG. HE PLAYS WITH 2 OF HIS TOYS. WE'VE ONLY FOUND 2 THAT HE CAN'T DESTROY.
HE FOLLOWS COMMANDS, EXCEPT STAY. HE'S STUBBORN WITH THAT. MORE TO COME SOON.
10/27/05 - Partner has been adopted!
10/19/05 - Partner came back from his neuter and did not want to miss a step. He wanted to walk, ride with me in
the truck, and cuddle just like usual. He is on an antibiotic for a bite on his ear thanks to Apollo, and also an
anti-inflammatory due to a slight limp in his gait that I noticed when I first got him and the vet noticed as well. He
has
filled out nicely since I first took him, but this big boy could stand to gain a few more pounds. He walks great on
lead and listens so well, I know he was once loved and spoiled rotten. He loves to sit by your side or at your feet.
I've only heard him bark a couple of times at strangers coming up the driveway. He's always friendly to new people
and children, and even liked Daniel's school bus driver. Partner comes out with us when Daniel catches the bus in
the mornings. I finally got a picture of him wearing a hat and scarf, but as you can see, his attitude is like," Get me
out of this thing, I want my bone!" Please give this guy a chance to be your Partner in life - he deserves it,
and so do you.
P.S. > Even though my cats have gone to the rainbow bridge so I have no resident cats, I noticed Partner did get
jumpy at the vet's when someone brought in a kitty cat - in that "hmmm....is that a snack?" type of way that dogs
with a prey drive will get. So to be safe, I say yes to dogs but no to cats.
10/5/05 - Partner will be a great partner for you! I can't believe this guy was a stray. The shelter was calling him
"Sarge" but he is definitely a Partner. Considering the shelter info also said "boxer mix" and 8 years old, I go by
what I see! Thank you so much, Linda, for bringing him out!
He is very handsome and striking. He must have come from show quality lines. He has the muscle tone, head
shape, and even the stance of those boxers you see at the dog shows. Honestly he took my breath away when I
first saw him. For being unneutered (for now--he'll get snipped in a couple weeks) he is very non-aggressive.
He is already best buddies with Tyson. In fact it was difficult to get a picture of Partner without his nose in either
Tyson's ear or up his butt. Apollo, however, has always been my challenger dog, was rough upon meeting him.
They do mutually groom each other but I keep them separate for potty and food times. So I do suggest either a
mellow dog or an older dog as a partner for Partner. Partner walks well on a leash and knows "sit," stay, go lay
down, and comes when called by name. He is very gentle with my 6 year old son on lead and gives him
lots of kisses. I will try to get a pic of Partner with a cowboy hat and kerchief to suit his name. In the mean time, as
you can see I caught him sneaking a nap on my bed. Boy, I'm glad I stripped the sheets off before he got his dirty
paws all over it! Get those apps in and get yourself a partner!!
7/28/06 - Look at my updated picture!
