3/13/06 - Miss or Senorita Panchita was spayed last Friday. She was a "very good girl" for everyone at the vet's office.
And we were told "she is SOOOO FRIENDLY" on her paperwork. No that we didn't already know, but it was great to
hear it again! She has shown no ill effects, except for being a bit groggy Saturday.
She has met visitors to our house very enthusiastically. Lots of wiggles and kisses for everyone. She made herself
VERY comfortable with my brother's girlfriend and was in her LAP after only 10 minutes of meeting her!
We are HAPPY to report that she is doing SUPER with her housebreaking issues! We haven't had an accident since
the last update. We now have learned that it IS due to separation anxiety. So, to make her feel safe, we put her in her
room while gone, and VIOLA!! She feels safe and therefore doesn't have any accidents!
We plan to give her her first bath with us this week. With all the mud, all the dogs are filthy! So, we will let you know
how she does. We have trimmed her nails, as well as brushed her without a complaint, so we are guessing bath
time will be a breeze as well.
She is a sweet dog with soooo much love to give. Her forever family is going to be VERY lucky!!
3/2/06 - Well, Panchita did NOT get spayed this past Friday due to the vet being ill. They rescheduled her for Friday
March 10th. So, she lucked out for a couple of weeks!
She continues to be a wonderful guest. Her personality is really shining as she is more and more comfortable with
us. She does this silly "happy dance" when she greets us after work! She also has started to play with our resident
chihuahua female, Mia. Mia will play bow and bark at her and Panchita now will bark back and chase her. It is too
funny!
She does have a hard time holding her urine for extended periods of times. She has been having accidents in the
house during work hours. (She is left for 6 hours) Not sure if it is separation anxiety related since she can and DOES
hold it all night for 8 hours. She has the run of the house during the work day, but is gated in "her room" at night. We
are going to try to gate her in "her room" during the day and see how she does. We do have a crate but haven't tried to
crate her. That too might be an option if need be. She does seek us out and follows us around, even into the
bathroom if she could! ( She stands outside the door!!) So, we think she is having these accidents due to separation.
We will work on it and keep you all posted!!
She is a sweet girl and we are becoming very attached to her, so SOMEONE PLEASE call for her!!!
2/16/06 - Spoke to the vet today regarding Panchita's heartworm test and she is heartworm free! He also said her
blood work came back good so we scheduled her spay for next Friday.
She continues to be a great dog with more of her personality coming out daily. She has had a couple of accidents in
the house, but they were both after being left for an extended period of time. (10 hours! We can't hold our pee for that
long, so can't expect her to!!) She is a very affectionate dog and looks to give kisses at EVERY opportunity she can.
She prefers to be RIGHT next to us at all times, but will settle on the floor if told to get off furniture. She listens VERY
well, and we are hoping our two resident canines might LEARN a bit from her! If we call her when she is outside, she
comes IMMEDIATELY. With the name "Panchita", I thought maybe she might be "bi-lingual" so I have tried a few
commands in Spanish as well as English. She seems to understand both! She does have ONE habit we are trying
to break her of, and that's jumping on us. She is slowly learning it will not get any "lovin", and if she sits nice, then she
will be pet. She is a smart girl and I am sure it won't take her long to "get it". She is super on a leash. No pulling.
(Except if she eyes a kitty or squirrel, then, WATCH OUT!) We have not crated her, but she does get gated in "her
room" at night and goes in there and settles on her bed immediately, not a peep out of her either. She is a wonderful
dog and will make someone VERY happy!
2/13/06 - Hello all, I just wanted everyone to know that Panchita visited the vet today and was a super girl! She greeted
everyone with a wagging tail and let the tech's and vet do whatever they needed to without any problems. We need to
update her weight, she is 57 lbs. The vet said she is a "good size". And said to try to maintain it. She was tested for
heartworm, but I didn't get the results. I forgot to ask, and they forgot to tell me. She doesn't have a spay scar so we
will call tomorrow to make an appointment to do that in a week or so. She has an old ulcer scar on her left eye. It
definately impars her vision since it is almost perfectly in the middle of her eye. But he said she does see a bit from it.
It is old and doesn't require any treatment. I will let you all know when her spay appointment is and how that goes...
2/8/06 - Just wanted to let you all know that Panchita is scheduled for a visit to the vet on Monday the 13th. I will let you
know how it goes. She appears very healthy. A bit stiff when she gets up, but she is 8 so that is to be expected. She
is a super girl! More updates soon.
2/6/06 - Panchita has been with us a week now. She has settled into our routine and is such and easy going dog, it
seems like she has lived here all her life! She continues to have excellent house manners and has not had an
accident yet!! She and the resident dogs have settled any differences they had and are getting along well. She does
get a bit jealous when I am petting one of the other residents, and will get up and push her way through to be pet. But,
with a firm "no" she will back off and usually lie down. Unfortunately, I was a bit premature with her "kitty status". She
has chased the cat several times. She has not hurt the cat, and it seems to be in jest, but I think she would and
DOES stress a resident cat out, so at this time I would have to say NO cats for her. I didn't get a chance to describe
her features in the last update. She is a fawn girl, and is a great size. Her tail was not docked and she wags it ALL
the time!! You can hear the "thump-thump" of it in the morning when we wake her up. She went for a hike with us
yesterday and although she is 8, she kept up with us for the hour through the woods and really enjoyed it. I can't
STRESS it enough what an EASY dog she is to have around. She isn't hyper, and is just happy with lounging around
the house with her people. She has discovered the toys here and will lay down with one and chew on it, but isn't
interested in playing tug or fetch. She is TOO dignified for that "foolishness!" She will see the vet next week and we
will update her after that. If you are looking for a LOW maintenace, sweet, gentle, mellow, smart, companion, than
LOOK no further!! Panchita's your girl!!
2/1/06 - Panchita arrived safely last Saturday. She was turned into a shelter by her owner who even bragged about
her wonderful new apartment she was moving into, which was "no dogs allowed", hence the abandoning of Panchita
to the shelter. Panchita won the hearts of many people along the way including her transporters and the great shelter
people who contacted us to help. Not surprising at ALL because she is a GEM! She is a very LOW maintenance girl!
I think she is just soooo happy to be a part of a household again!! She has impeccable house manners and has not
had an accident even after being left for 7 hours while we work!! We will schedule her vet visit in the next week or so.
More to come as we get to know her...
