| 1/2/07 - Moxie is doing well at my home but she is still looking for either a long term senior dog foster home or permanent home asap. After the 1st day of trouble with the wire crate, she does go in on her own without any problem. She still refuses to use a plastic/vari kennel style crate though & really would be happiest in a home where she did NOT need to be crated. She gets along fine with my cat & other dogs too. She is a sweet & wiggly girl but I have found Moxie does have an issue about her collar-you cannot grab her nicely even by the collar to get her to do something she does not feel like doing (ex: coming into the house when she wants to hang out too long). If you do, she will snap at your hand to tell you she doesn't want to do that. She is very hard headed like this & her last home did say she was allowed to do whatever she wanted, so I think she learned that she told everyone else when she did not like or want to do something. For this reason I do not feel she should be placed in a home with kids, just to be safe, though she is said to love children. Oh, another thing, she is a flashy REVERSE BRINDLE, not fawn as her page had said! Sorry, I just noticed that was wrong on her page today! LOL She has lost several pounds since she's been here & is looking much better physically too. She does have a lump on her side that probably needs removed & just needs her rabies shot updated. Now that the holidays are over, we're hoping to get her into the vet this week or next. 12/10/06 - Moxie has moved to Maine for me to see how she is in a different home (thank you to her transport volunteers!). She was not able to be crated in her foster home & she did not do too good at the vet's when they tried to trim her nails. She gets very snappy in both cases. We've had many dogs with issues with both the crate & vet visits, so we did not think that was enough to not give Moxie some more evaluation. Moxie is a very big girl (85 lbs!) & can stand to lose maybe 10 lbs, so she still will be a large dog. She is a beautiful flashy brindle girl with a docked tail & cropped ears. She rode great on the transport & likes to ride in the car. When we got home I wanted to see how she would do with me trying to crate her & she did show me that she was not going to let me win with the plastic varikennel style crate. I tried her in the large wire one & I was able to eventually get her to go in. She has been fine in the crate, but we'll see how she does when she realizes the next few times of coming in & out that the crate is something she needs to get use to! :) I think she will be a very nice girl for someone who does not need or want to crate her. She was not crated in her original home & did great, & the same at her last foster home. Do you have a nice fluffy dog bed in your house for Moxie to retire on? She would love to be home for the Holidays. 11/13/06 - Moxie is friendly except when you try and make her do what she doesn’t want to do; then she snaps at your hand—perhaps half-heartedly as she hasn’t yet made contact. She hasn’t yet eaten as far as I can see; will give her canned food along with her dry food today. I was told she had been to obedience classes and would “sit” etc.on command. Aside from the “come” command which she obeys when she wants to I have no signs of obedience, just ignoring the commands so far. On the bright side Ludwig is now tolerating her—no more growls. :) 11/12/06 - Hi, after two episodes of getting lost, I finally got Moxie. She is an owner surreder the owner is in the service and he is selling his house so he will not have time to take care of them. She was with Precious who went to RI. Moxie is a pretty dog. So far she is placid, quiet, friendly and kinda low keyed. I figured I’d be able to separate her by crating as long as it took for my dog, Ludwig, to accept her. I tried very hard to get her in the crate. She is nothing if not strong; she resisted the crate and in the process she snapped at me several times. So the alternative is to crate Ludwig for now. Physically she must be nearly twenty pounds over weight. She had her last visit to the vet last February. She seems to be up to date on shots. She has what looks like a large nipple in the middle of her right thigh on the outside. I have not examined her more thoroughly. I put her food and water in the crate, but I don’t think she touched it. She can withstand a few lost meals. She pants rather profusely right now---I'm sure she is very stressed out from all the changes. |
