| 8/7/06 - I am very sad to let everyone know that Molly was not able to be saved and safely placed in another home. I spoke with her last home several times to get all the info I could on the last few years of Molly's life and also spoke with them on her issues in rescue. The decision was made after yet another really nasty attack from Molly on other dogs that was unprovoked & a complete surprise. That along with the serious damage she did in a short time to the other dogs & lack of being able to get her to stop. I was also attacked by her in the middle of the fight, with her fully aware of what she was doing and not just an accidental bite that happens in some dog fights.
We will never know what really was going on in Molly's head, but she had obviously changed dramatically in the last few months and only got worse with another transition back into rescue. I let her last family know before & they agreed that everyone's safety had to come first and Molly had changed. I was with Molly until the end & told her how her family & I loved her, how sorry I was that we could not help her & sorry that she had such an awful beginning to her life before coming into rescue. Run free Molly & you will have lots of people happy to see you again some day. 7/29/06 - Molly was very sadly surrendered back to rescue to find another home. Here is the note that was sent with Molly by her last family: "We are very sad to have to return Molly to rescue to find a new home after 3 1/2 years. When we adopted her we knew she didn't like most animals, but she got along fine with our submissive male. Recently we have had a couple of bad dog fights & determined she can no longer live with another dog. Molly has had a full workup by the vet & found to be in excellent health. We have also consulted a behavior specialist who feels the best thing for Molly will be a home where she can be the only dog. This is an extremely hard decision, but we know it is the right thing to do for Molly & our other dog. We know that she will be happier as an only animal, as her greatest joy is to spend time with people. She loves people of all ages. Molly is the sweetest dog; someone will be very lucky to adopt her. She is a very happy girl. We've never seen a nub wag as fast or often as hers. We've always called her "Molly Sunshine" (a name that her last foster mom gave her) as it just seemed to suit her personality. She is eager to please & just asks for lots of love & attention in return. She has good manners (no counter surfing, garbage picking, chewing). Molly sits, shakes, stays, & comes on command. She walks well on the leash & has learned to ignore other dogs on her walks. She doesn't like the vacuum cleaner & gets very anxious during thunder & lightening storms. She chases light (flashlight, the sun reflecting off my watch, etc). When we first got her she didn't like to be left alone. She has been left alone in the house crated more recently & has done fine. She loves to eat. We don't give her lots of treats, because her weight got a little too high last year. She has been maintaining her weight (around 65 lbs) eating one cup of dry food twice a day. Occasionally we'll give her canned food for a treat & she loves it. She loves her rope toy & bone & to fetch a tennis ball in the yard. We haven't tried a stuffed or squeaky toy in a while, because she would destroy in a matter of minutes. Molly is a bit of an attention hog, we always attributed it to the fact that she lived the first 18 months of her life tied to a tree. We figured she didn't get much attention before entering rescue & she was going to take the rest of her life to make up for it. We feel that she would be happiest in a home where someone is home a lot of the time. She seems more secure when she can follow her humans around & stay close. She isn't a nuisance at all, she's happy to curl up at your feet. We just wanted to offer our opinion; we have complete faith that SCBR will place her in the right home." |
