UPDATE 1/28/07 - meggy and willis are doing wonderful!!!!! of course they are spoiled rotten!!
meggy-she is just in love with my husband mike!!she can't get enough of him!!she is just a perfect angel.
we had blood work done on her and she is borderline for an under active thyroid,so for now we are
just monitering it.no meds yet.willis has to go to the orthopedic in a couple of weeks, but for now he's
doing great and will probably need another surgery in 6-9 months.the 2 of them get along great!!!
we couldn't be happier with our new additions to our family!!! thank you boxer rescue!!!!
UPDATE 12/16/06 - well, i know we're not due for an update yet, but we just couldn't help it....we
cannot thank boxer rescue enough for these 2 angels!!!we drove 8 hours to get them and about 10
hours to bring them home...(needed more potty stops on the way home!) they were worth every
minute!!!!! they both have so much love to give and so much personality. they get along with each other
quite well! today they went with us to pick out a christmas tree, they had a great time and of course
everybody they met fell in love with them!! meggy is much more social with strangers than willis is, but
we figure we'll just keep taking him out with us to socialize and he'll be fine. watching them "boxer play"
is the best!!! no other dogs play quite like boxers! you would never guess meggy is 8 years old if you
saw her play!! they are both so wonderful!!!!meggy has decided that my husband mike is hers and willis
is in love with my son kyle....looks like we might need 1 more boxer for me!!!they have met many
people over the past couple days...and of course they all tell us how pretty and well behaved they
are...then they ask where we got them...we are proud to tell them we adopted them from second
chance boxer rescue!!!!! thank you again for bringing these 2 angels into our lives!!!they have 100%
found they're forever home!! we love them with all our hearts!!!!!
12/15/06 - Meggy has been adopted!
11/20/2006 - Meggy is very happy here in her foster home. She is very settled and comfortable. She
acts as though she has known her "foster" brother, Jax, all her life. Jax has taken to her quite well also.
It does help however, that she is completly submissive to Jax. She is so playful and fun, hard to believe
she is a senior.
Today was the test to see how she is alone in the house while we were away. I ran errands today for a
short while and when I returned to the house Meggy was fine. Nothing in the house touched or moved
and no mess. However, I did let her out twice to do her business before I left. She was great!
As far as being leash trained, she is pretty much okay on the leash. She is a big sniffer and must have
been walked on an extra long leash with prior owner. If, however, you hold leash on a short rein she
does not pull. She walks fine with no tugging. She appears to be pretty much leash trained.
Meggy would make a great campaion to someone who may or may not have children. She is like a
ready made dog. Enough spry in her for fun and enough obedience to be calm and controlled. She is
very good dog! I'll update after the Thanksgiving dinner when our home will be filled with adults and
children of all ages. We will see how she is in a room full of people.
11/18/06 - Meggy arrived today at 11am. She is an owner surrender to a local shelter we work with
(thanks Gail for getting her into rescue!). Her owner was a single woman 65 years old. She had
grandchildren over the age of four, whom spent time with Meggy. So Meggy has been around older
children. Her previous owner also had cats that Meggy got along with fine. The owner is moving and
can no longer have pets.
When Meggy arrived she was immediately put into her crate. She did not hesitate to go in and
appeared quite comfortable in there. She laid herself down as if she was at home. I kept her in there for
a little while before my own boxer, Jax, went up to the crate to meet her. When Jax finally approached
the crate Meggy immediately stood up wagging her nubby tail [Her tail is not as short as I am used to
seeing on boxers]. The two dogs were immediately friends, both are seniors and appeared to have a lot
in common.
As the day went on we finally let Meggy out on a leash to meet Jax, also on leash, face to face. It was a
match made in heaven. They hit it off completely. For being a female Meggy was completely submissive
to Jax. He loved it. They played for awhile and then when Jax had enough, Meggy laid down next to
him and was licking his face.
She is full of life and is a darling to have. You would never guess that she is eight years old. She loves to
play and she also listens to simple commands such as "stay", "sit", "lay down" and "stop". She lets me
know when she needs to go outside to do her business. What a good girl. She loves to give kisses and
she also kisses on request. She is a delight.
As I am writing this, my husband is out walking the two dogs. I will update ASAP of her leash
experience. So far all is pretty good. In a couple weeks from now she will be seeing the vet to have
stitches removed. She had two moles removed, one on her face and one on her back leg. You hardly
can see the stitches on her pretty little face, though. I doubt it will leave a noticeable scar.
She is truly adorable. I know she will make a great campanion to her forever family in the future. I'll
keep you posted soon on more of her delightful behavior. Since she is eight years old, I am sure she
knows how to please her people companions by now!
