UPDATE 6/15/07 -   Madison is doing quite well in her forever home. She is quite a high spirited girl
with more energy then we have seen in our home in quite awhile! She had a schedule before she came
to us and expects us to follow that even after 6 months. She must have gotten up at 6:30 every day
because she wakes up and jumps off the bed at that time and cries relentlessly until we get up and take
her out and feed her breakfast. We don't need an alarm clock anymore. She tested positive for Lyme
when we got her, so she needed antibiotics for a few weeks and then we had a cyst removed from her
side. She also had alot of bowel issues, and the poor girl would hold it as best she could in the house
with few accidents. We changed her diet, found that chicken seemed to cause this problem, and after
settling in here and a more agreeable food she is doing much better. We are grateful to SCBR for
bringing her into our home and lives. Madison is a great girl and we love her very much.

UPDATE 2/23/07 -  Madison is doing great in her forever home. She has adjusted well and seems to
be living the good life. She listens well and has been fun to take to obedience class. She has been a
character there and is the energetic dog of the bunch. They cannot believe she is over six because she
looks and acts younger. She will graduate tomorrow! She does have a few problems with other dogs,
but we are working on that and will continue to take her to classes on Thursday nights when we can
drop in as often as we want to get her used to being around different dogs. She does great with our
boxer boy, Mugsie, but he is very layed back and easy for anyone to get along with. We are all happy
that Madison found her way to our home!

UPDATE 1/6/07 - Madison is doing great. She is a happy, energetic, smart dog. We love having her
here. She gets along well with Mugsie our SCBR boy. She loves toys and usually tries to get them away
from Mugs. He isn't used to that, but mostly he just backs down and lets her have it. He is too nice and
doesn't stand his grown with her. She has a growth on her side that is going to be removed next week,
it looks like a big skin tag or an extra nipple. The vet said it should be taken off as it does get irritated.
She still tested positive for Lyme disease. The meds didn't seem to work, but the vet gave her the first
shot anyway and said she should be negative when he tests in the spring. Also, Madison has very loose
stools and we are trying to find out what the cause is. She doesn't have accidents in the house and it
doesn't seem to bother her. We will try all that we can to alleviate that problem, changing diet, food
additives or supplements, etc. Whatever works. It makes it very difficult to clean up after her outside.
Obedience classes are scheduled for Jan 20 at the AWS in Kennebunk. I am very much looking
forward to going there again with a dog, especially Madison, as she is so eager to please and loves
treats. It should be fun!

12/8/06 - Madison was adopted!

12/7/06 - Madison had her vet appt this afternoon. She had her shots, and when the vet tests for
heartworm, it also tests for Lyme and she showed positive. Heartworm was negative, thank goodness.
He said that most likely she just has the antibodies from being bitten by a deer tic and gave me meds to
give her for 21 days and then she needs a follow up and to be vaccinated for Lyme. He also said that
she has a spay scar, which he is quite sure of and that she has no mammory development, so that
should confirm that she was spayed and didn't mature in that way. He said her age could be 6ish, as we
were told.

12/4/06 - Madison has been with us for two days now. She is a really good girl and is doing very well
here. She seems to be completely housebroken and has only had one accident in the house, which was
my fault when I stopped to do something else when I was taking her out the first day she was here. She
seems to not have been crated previously and really got upset the first night and barked and cried alot.
She is so smart, though, and doing much better as she learns that she gets to come out and play alot and
get lots of treats. She goes in easily for a treat also. We introduced her and our very good natured
boxer boy, Mugsie, and they are doing quite well together. She was playing with one of his Cuz,
squeeky toys and running around and around and he was watching her so amused. She kept bumping
him trying to get him to play with her. She is eating well today and let me know by sitting in front of the
counter with the bowls and staring up at them that she was ready for dinner. Madison is one terrific
boxer girl who anyone would be lucky to have as a member of their family.

12/2/06 - We have an adorable new guest here at the Homeward Bound Boxer Haven. Her name is
Madison and she is a rather petite and pretty little boxer girl. She did pretty well on her transport, was a
little anxious (who wouldn't be with all the changes she has gone through lately), but settled down after a
short time. Thank you to everyone who helped to get her to Maine to her foster home. I know that
Madison appreciates being in a nice, warm, cozy foster home for the holiday season instead of a
shelter. I am not sure of the details of her surrender and will try to find out more info and pass it along
as soon as I do. I do know that she is a very sweet girl and will be a great companion and pal to
someone who will give her some loving care. We will get
some pictures up in a day or two, also, so you can see what a cutie pie she is.
