UPDATE 8/1/06 -  Kahlua is doing beautifully. She has started to chill out about being left alone and will stay in a
"down stay" without stressing out when I leave the room.
She is the most intelligent of all my previous Boxers. This girl gets it right the first time and doesn't forget.
She is in excellent shape and has discovered that exercise isn't all that bad. As soon as she sees me put on my
sneakers and baseball cap she's at the door; sitting politely and  ready to roll.
We begin the intermediate obedience class this month and it will be interesting to see how she fits in.
Her favorite pastime is hanging out in front of the oscillating fan to stay cool. She is quite the character.

UPDATE 7/2/06 - When we brought home Lilo aka 'Kahlua' we observed that while she responded to LLL sounds
she did not know her name. Our  Toy Fox Terrier 'Peanut' has a long EEE sound and so we respectfully returned to
Kahlua stressing the L sound to avoid confusion. Kahlua sure knows her name now!
Kahlua has adjusted beautifully putting up with Peanut annoying her. She is gentle and patient and very intelligent.
She will be attending the Barking Dog obedience training in August; I am enrolling her in an intermediate class.
Kahlua struggles with separation anxiety and does not do well in a crate. We are working through this. She has
learned "Off, Down, Stay" and is working on the long stay. I believe that once she is more comfortable that her
anxiety will decrease.
She had a wellness check last week. She has lost 3 pounds and has 5 more to go. She walks everyday with her
mom and was quite shocked to find that our walks are about 4 miles. The first day she looked at me like, "You've
got to be kidding me!" She has developed definition in her midsection and soon will be back to her svelte self!
Kahlua loves my daughter and son. She is absolutely a dream to walk on lead and I am beginning to see that
familiar Boxer rear end wiggle that at first was an uncomfortable waddle. She is developing quite a sense of
humor; playing with toys and is a wonderful companion dog.

6/3/06 - Lilo has been adopted!

5/27/06 - If you have a teenaged boy and are looking for the right Boxer--Lilo may be your girl!  She absolutely fell in
love with my teenaged son the moment she met him.  I was a little worried that with her tiny bit of timidity she might
be shy around him, but quite the opposite.  She acted like he was her long lost brother!  Of course, I think she will
be fine with any older children, too, as long as they don't startle or scare her. Lilo met my cat the other night--they
even both slept with me in my bed at the same time.  Given that my cat is quite timid around dogs, this definitely
tells me she is absolutely OK with cats.  She continues to be a very good girl in the house and loves to go for long
walks.  99 % of the time she is well behaved on the leash. But that other 1 %--she is a big strong girl.  So we will
try a Gentle Leader next time.

5/26/06 - The Riverview Boxer Hostel is delighted to announce the arival of our newest visitor--Lilo.  This time our
in-house dietician will be providing low-calorie meals and frequent exercise opportunities to h elp Lilo regain her
svelte figure.  (As the resident dietician--me--also needs lots of exercise, we are a perfect match for the moment!!)
Lilo loves to walk and walks very nicely on a leash with only intermittent mild corrections on the nylon choke she
wears for walks.  She even walks well with Beau, and I love all the compliments they get when they are out
together with me.  Lilo has not been crated here at the Riverview because her housemanners are impeccable.
She is totally housebroken, sits for treats and takes them gently, and sits for petting and attention.  She also likes
to sleep in a warm bed with a warm person.  And I can understand that--she has a relatively very light coat and my
house is rather cool.  More to come soon on this great little girl!

5/21/06 - Lilo's family were very sad to make the decision to bring her back to SCBR today to find a different type of
home.  She had a couple of incidents with the little kids in the house.  It was felt that though she loves kids, maybe
there was just too much activity with 4 little ones.  More updates soon on Lilo from her foster home.

UPDATE 1/24/06 - Lilo has been with us since the beginning of December. She continues to be a joy. We just love
her to pieces. The only problem we are having is that she is so sad when the kids are out of the house - especially
Marisol. We are thinking that perhaps another boxer as a companion for her might be helpful. She goes from
being a playful happy pup to kind of wandering around aimlessly and whining. I feel so bad for her. I guess having
just Mom and the baby around is not enough for her. Does anyone have any advice or thoughts?

UPDATE 1/4/06 - Lilo is a joy to have in our home. We are in love with her and hope to expand our boxer family this
spring or summer.
She weighed in at the vets today at 54 lbs - almost all muscle. She is a love. She has appointed herself Colin's
gaurdian. (Our son will be 1 in January!) Ans she and our daughter Marisol have a wonderful bond. They are so
happy when they are together. Lilo's happiest time is when we go pick the twins up from pre-school and she gets
to see al the kids. She wiggles like mad.
Lilo has been registered for 'school' at Wolicet (Best Friends Kennels in Boxford.) Her first class is 2/8. We are
very excited. She went to the groomers today and they had many compliments on how well she behaved and what
a nice dog she is. Of course we were very proud.
Once again we can't thank you enough for this welcome addition to our family. She loves playing with our friends'
boxers so in the future we would like to adopt another boxer to be her friend. She just lights up when she sees
Rocky and they play together so nicely. (Leanne I think you fostered Rocky too - he is also in Boxford now.)
Thanks so much and have a very happy new year!!!!

12/2/05 - Kahlua has been adopted!

11/21/05 - Kahlua was a stray found hiding under a car in a liquor store parking lot. Scared to death she was
picked up by animal control. She is a cute cute girl. All muscle and very thin. She was so happy to meet everyone
last night and her tail never stopped. She went into her crate with a push and was quiet all night. We will update
you as we get to know her better.
