7/19/06 - Libby has now been here for a week, since her flight for four days. She is a tiny bit better.
Now that she has been in the house for a week she doesn't want to go outside. I have to pull her leash
and drag her to the door. She seems to still only respond to Jimmy & Joey. She just lays curled up in
the corner in the living room. She will, not go to the food bowl, I have to bring it to her. The other day I
made her a peanut butter sandwich, and after a bit she ate it from my hand. The boys tell me that after I
go up to bed, she gets up and goes to the food bowl. As far as house broken, she is not. She will go
when I take her out, but she also goes in the house, most especially during the night. Katie and Rocky
don't even bother with her, nor her with them. I don't have a fenced in yard, and after her 4 day jaunt, I
can't let her loose. I called my vet, who is around the corner, they have a huge fenced in area, they told
me I can bring her there anytime to run. As soon as it gets a little cooler here I'm going to take her
there. She doesn't do much shaking in the house anymore. When I take her out she will shake. She
will not be spayed until aug 4th. If she is still with me when I come to Maine for the Pet Fest, I will
bring her with me. It is going to take some time with this sweet girl to get her to trust people. We all give
her love and attention, hopefully she will come out of her shell. Keep checking back for more updates.
7/13/06 - Libby arrived at the Lodge Friday night. She is a very scared girl and unsure of this new
world. I put her in the crate in the house, the resident boxers of course had to check her out. There
was no growling or barking. Saturday I put her in our outside kennel, with food and water, she just laid
in the corner and didn't touch any food or water. When Ed would go over to the kennel and talk to her
she would shake like I have never seen a dog do. When I went to take her out of the kennel she bolted
and pulled the lease right out of my hand and took off towards the university fields. All my neighbors
and I searched till it got dark we couldn't find her. I called all the police depts in the area. Sunday
morning I had my front door open and I was sitting on the floor sanding the door. Out the corner of my
eye I saw her on the front lawn, I called her name and she bolted again into the fields across the street.
There is a farm across the street and right now there is corn, pumpkins and soy bean growing. I then
searched the fields and I couldn't find her. Wednesday night my neighbor told me that she was in her
yard and then bolted back to the fields. We all searched for her till a storm came. Then at 10:00 last
night I got a call from the local police that 3 young men had her in town. Joey and my nephew went
with me, they were so excited she was found. The young men that had her told me she was walking
down the middle of main street in the storm and she was shaking and was very scared. She went to
them, they took her into their apt vestibule and waited out the storm. When we brought her home the
boys didn't want her to go in the crate. Joey and my nephew are 11 & 12. They are both very warm
and loving young boys. The two of them just love every foster that comes in the door. I believe Libby
can sense their true love for her and she seems to take to them more then to me. We let her have full
run to the first floor, the boys tried to get her to eat and drink. After a 1/2 hour she finally ate and
drank. The boys slept on the couch. When I came down in the morning there wasn't any mess and she
was sleeping on the floor next to Joey.
She is just the sweetest girl. It is going to take some time with her, but we all love her here at the lodge
and hopefully she will not bolt again. The boys are going to give her all the love and attention, since she
seems to take to them. Look for more updates.
7/3/06 - Libby is a dog rescued from a puppy mill. She is very sweet but scared. This is the fist time
she is living outside her chicken coop 6 X 6 pen. We are just giving her a lot of space, good food and
love.
She loves the yard. ......she rolls around in the grass with a smile that goes from ear to ear.
