9/20/06 - Well, I found the key to Lexi's happiness in life: SQUEAKY TOYS!!! LOL This is one dog
that just loooooves squeaky toys! I could not figure out the last few days why when Hoover would run
into his kennel, Lexi was intent on trying to run in with him. Turns out Hoover has a really loud squeaky
toy that he loves to keep in his kennel. When he runs in his kennel, he always steps on this toy & it
squeals away, with Lexi DYING to get in there to find that toy!! :)
Lexi spent all last night running around my house finding every hidden & lost squeaky toy & would
carry them around one at a time & then move on to find the next one. She even would bring them over
every so often so I could throw them for her--she's a really good catcher! She's very intense about the
squeak's, but you can take them away from her without any trouble & she will sit patiently (well, if you
count vibrating with excitement patiently!) waiting for me to throw it. I spent some more time trying to
see how she would react with my cats too & she sniffed both of them, but would go right onto
something else. My cats don't run from dogs, so I think that is what matters to Lexi.
This little sweetie has energy to burn & would be great with someone who likes to jog or run (or even
just has a good squeaky throwing arm!). Her pictures are not good & do not show how beautiful her
red mahogany coat is.
9/18/06 - Lexi is settling in more & more each day. I was told she will growl at strangers she
meets(more so men), but once she gets over that she is okay with the people. I can see that Lexi is just
one of those more high-strung type dogs & is always on alert. You can tell by her stance & look in her
eyes that she is always watching out for trouble. She met my dogs and was fine with them, but overly
playful foster boy Hoover (1 yr old labradoodle) was a little too much for her & she let him know. She
has not bothered my cats much yet, but I will need to try her more with them to see how she is. Lexi is
good in her crate when I am at work. She does know some commands, but never went to formal
obedience classes & definitely will benefit from that (though she is small in size, she is physically very
strong & strong willed too). Lexi will also need a fenced yard or a rural setting where there are not a
lot of visitors coming up unexpectedly. She is the type that loves her family & kids 110%, but does not
like the high stress of a very active household with lots of visitors & would not be good in a big city
type setting. She would be so happy with a more quiet household where she & her family can live
happily ever after. Do you fit Lexi's dream of her new home?
9/11/06 - Lexi is an owner surrender that came back into rescue last night as her family said they did
not have time for her anymore. She is a tiny, very muscular, pretty little lady. She was a little nervous
meeting me, but eagerly jumped in the back of my car with her stuff. More updates on this sweetie as
she settles in.
UPDATE 7/8/04 - Lexi is doing great she had a check up at the vets and is doing great she had some
swollen glands, and a cough but a course of antibiotics took care it and now is starting to gain some
weight almost 50lbs. She is very easy to train and listens well ,well most of the time. Lexi has been a
very positive influence on our family she is a great dog we all love her very mutch. Thank you all so very
much.
UPDATE 6/13/04 - Lexi is adjusting very well. She has had a few incidents within the first two weeks,
but we can chalk it up to getting to know each other. She is still a little skittish around men, but she'll
only bark for a second at them. She then wants her belly rubbed. I think with a little obedience training
she will be fine. She is starting to eat a lot more, hopefully we can fatten her up. She has an appointment
with the vet on June 16 for a slight cough and some sort of a nasal snort which she only gets in the
morning. She also has some sort of an inflammation next to her bottom but other than that she is doing
great. She loves running in the yard, fetching balls and squeaky toys. She also enjoys the children and is
very tender to them. I think the kids have lost ownership of all their balls. I will send you an update
after our visit to the vet.
5/29/04 - Lexi was adopted!
5/24/04 Lexi is doing wonderful. She made her way to the vets on Friday, she was spay and brought
up to date on all her shots. Lexi is heartworm and lime negative as well. Lexi weighed in at 50 pounds
and got a microchip. Because I was going to be away she stayed at the vet until today. Everyone loved
her. She was great with everyone she met even all the male doctors. We were a little concerned about
her liking men but that doesn't seem to be a problem. Lexi loves kids and is wonderful with them.
Lexi loves to play. I mean loves to play. Lexi likes anything that sqeeks and anything that resembles a
ball. She will play pass forever. Today as I was watching TV I was throwing the tennis ball for her. She
would bring it back and set it on the couch next to me and wait. She would stare at that ball for 10
minutes without moving until I threw it again. She would love a kid to play ball with. She will do flips for
a toy, climb tall mountains or crawl under tables. Lexi is a very outgoing, active girl that would like a
family to keep up. She is ok with other dogs even though she really doesn't know how to play with
them. She couldn't figure out what to do when the bulldog puppy had her toy. She followed him around
a while and then decided she better find a toy of her own. The other cute thing that Lexi does and she
will flip anything off her nose. She holds so still and then when you put a treat or toy on her nose she will
flip it into her mouth. I'm sure you can tell we really like this sweet girl here. She deserves a high energy
home where someone will be home alot and can give her lots of exercise and attention. Are you the
home for her?
5/4/04 Lexi continues to do wonderful with myself and my two kids. She loves to play with the kids and
will fetch forever. Lexi did however have some real problems with my children's dad while I was out of
town this weekend. She would not allow him to handle her at all. She snapped at him when he tried to
put a leash on her to take her out. She would snap at him if he moved to quickly. This is the only man I
have seen her around so far. Lexi had a man in her last home with a heavy hand. I'm not sure how she
will react to anyone else she meets. She continues to do well in her crate, no accidents in the house etc.
Lexi is not putting on weight yet and I feel it is the stress of lossing her family. Lexi is going to stick
around for a while until we have a really good feel for her.
4/29/04 Wow, how 24 hours can change someone. Lexi is out of her shell and full of herself. A good
bowl of food and a night in her crate was all she needed. Lexi loves the squeeky toy and has been
playing with it all morning. She loves to play fetch and brings it back everytime. Even if she doesn't
always give it to you. Lexi knows sit, down, paw and flips a treat off her nose. Lexi was very sad to see
my daughter get on the bus with out her today. She tried to run out the door after her. Lexi also made
sure to let me know when she needed to go out. She is one great girl. I have not introduced her to the
other girls yet as I don't want to overwhelm her. I'm sure she will be fine. More to come.
4/28/04 Lexi arrived today thanks to Helen for picking her up. Lexi is an owner surrender. Her owner
had to give her up due to some changes in the family. Lexi is a very cute, petite fawn girl. She has been
raised with kids of all ages. And I was told is great with kids. She is also suppose to be good with other
dogs. Unfortunately Lexi is in heat, so it might be a while before we get to know her true personality.
Lexi is a little nervous tonight, she did eat a great supper. She needs to put on some serious weight.
And is very quiet in her crate. We will update you as we get to know her.
