8/17/06 - Lady has made such wonderful strides here. It is hard to believe she is the same dog. She has
mellowed, and enjoys laying by our feet. Don't get me wrong she wrestles with the best of them, but she
is showing her gentle side and we love it!! She is never far from the humans in the house she is very
"connected" with her people. We have continued to be pleasantly surprised by the level of tolerance she
shows for my son (4+ y/o) who gives hugs like "the crusher". Lady is gentle with him as she drags him
across the livingroom in games of tug-o-war.
Lady does have her mischievous side which keeps us laughing and on our toes as well. She is a huge
talker. The trouble is in the translation, but we are getting better. Lady has also been taking lesson from
our resident trouble maker on counter-surfing 101. This translates into foster mommy remembering not
to leave food out (sometimes this works..... others times the dogs eat really well LOL). But seriously for
the few flaws there are, there are 100 priceless qualities that make this little Lady everything a dog
should be and more. She has won the heart of this foster family, yours is next.
8/8/06 - What can I say about our Lady Love? She makes me laugh everyday over the silliest things.
She is such a self advocate. There is not an hour that goes by when she does not let me know of her
presence in some way shape or form. She loves to talk, which is great when she needs to go out, or
wants love, or thinks I've been sitting at the computer to long. Lady is not humble in any way, when she
feels you're able and she's ready she will roll over and expose her belly for rubbing (which is anytime I
am in the kitchen). Lady has adjusted to her crate, and seems to recognize this as her space both for
relaxation when others are in the kitchen and as her "naughty" place for time-outs.
Lady plays and has free run with my dogs and the rest of my family. Rarely has she shown aggression
and then only briefly. Those times usually occur when Lady gets excited during play and oversteps
boundaries with my dogs. She has also shown food aggression with one of my dogs. However lady
DOES NOT show food aggression with people that we have seen here. As a result of the food issue
Lady gets fed in her crate, of which she gladly runs into twice each day. Due to food steeling another
resident dog gets fed this way as well, so Lady has company. What Lady needs is a family that will
continue to show her the "tough love" she receives here. She likes to know what her limits are.
All of this aside, Lady is a loving and energetic dog that loves to play with people and other dogs. She
is looking for that special family that can see that she is a diamond in the rough. I can already see her
starting to sparkle, but she needs you to truly gleam. Get your apps in!!!
7/13/06 - Lady is certainly coming into her own up here in Downeast Maine. Her relationship with the
resident male boxer continues to be relaxed. Their play consists mostly of barking and chasing each
other, but nothing physical. With my females Lady does try to get very rough, this is reciprocated by my
puppy at times. She is proving to be quite the bully and has on several occasions chosen to test the
authority of the alpha dog of the canine pack here. Needless to say she has spent some time in solitary
as a result. Lady's dominance issues appears to be focused on the other females in the house (one she
knows she can clearly bully, the other she continues to test). Only occasionally do we interfere. From
what I continue to see from Lady, she will make a great companion for a family that has a male dog that
does not have dominance issues (laid-back and go with the flow sort of dog) or a family looking for that
one dog they can love and spoil, while still setting good limits for this little Lady.
7/8/06 - Lady has made leaps and bounds since I last reported. She and her fellow house mates have
decided that it is better to play nice with each other than not. Lady now gets along great with my dogs,
she just needed some time to warm up to them first. She is a very active dog that likes to wrestle, play
tug-o-war and chase with her house mates. Lady continues to show excited interest in my cat, who is a
big tease and secretly enjoys the attention just out of Lady's reach. If Lady shares her forever-home
with cats they will need to be assertive, to keep her in line.
Lady is great about getting her needs met. She will inform you when she needs to go out, usually by
"talking" to you. She is also following commands very well, but will need refinement of classes. She
does know the basics; sit, lay-down and shake. Lady continues to improve with her crate training. She
settles down when we are present in the house and only barks a few times when we go to leave. Lady
loves to go with us on errands. She likes to ride in the car. Lady does not pull on the leash during walks
under most circumstances. Lady is a runner and would just love a fenced in yard to burn off some of
her energy. Get your applications in for a lady who is full of love and energy just right for your family.
You won't be disappointed!
6/30/06 - Well things have taken a real turn here. Lady and her "house sister" decided all of a sudden
they were done with the bickering and have been rolling around as playmates ever since. Lady is a very
energetic playmate! She plays in bursts and then takes breaks to "recoup". She has not shown
aggression over toys or bones (real not rawhide). In short Lady is what would translate into a very
assertive and bouncy female. It may take some dogs a few days to get adjusted to her as mine have
(my boxer is still not all that pleased with her presence but tolerates her). My earlier beliefs of Lady
being an only dog would not do her justice. Give her the patience she needs to warm up to your dog(s),
and she will return the favor with hours of play. She is truly a great dog. Your family will not be
disappointed.
6/27/06 - Well Lady got her clean bill of health today at the vet. No wormys, and the heart sounds
good. The vet agreed with the 3yo age approximation. She is now also up to date on her shots. Lady
got a chance to meet the resident boxer today. I was hopeful, but Lady was not ready for introductions
yet, so she is crate bound again. She really doesn't enjoy her crate right now and is very vocal when she
is in it, so we are hoping she will relax soon & be able to be with the other dogs. She continues to be
the best of friends with my greyhound, who is the "alpha" of the house so this does not appear to be a
dominance thing.
More updates as Lady settles in!
6/25/06 - Lady made her arrival here as expected at 11pm last night, Thanks to all who braved the
Sunday traffic yesterday. She met the resident greyhound after I realized her barking in the crate was
going to wake up my son. They got along great right from the start. After Lady sniffed the house top to
bottom about a dozen times she settled down on my bed, and true to boxer fashion she is a bed hog.
She has met the resident bully through the crate ( they are taking turns in solitary confinement) both my
"bully" and Lady are quick to let it be known they were not happy to meet. My boxer is on vacation in
Old Orchard Beach and will be returning tomorrow, Lady will just love him!! Lady has met my son (4
y/o) and follows him with her little nub tail in high gear. I don't see kids as being a problem. My cat is
MIA as is usually the case when new dogs arrive, will report back on that one.
This morning she seems antsy and is wandering a lot. She has diarrhea which I have noticed is also
bloody (most likely due to the stress of changes) so a Vet appt is in order, which will be made later on
today. I will report more as she opens up to us here.
