UPDATE 7/6/08 - Joe is doing great! He seems to love other dogs and plays well.He loves people and
just loves to run around with a group of little boys.Friends are amazed at how gentle he is .Joe likes to
paddle and swim-which is so different to all the other boxers I have known. He also enjoys a game of
chase with the boys running after him with water shooters!!!
Joe thinks he is a lap dog and will try to climb up onto your lap for a cuddle.
Joe is a SWEETIE!
UPDATE 7/20/07 - WE LOVE JOE!!!
HE is very settled.--and very attached to me.
Joe loves everyone--my boys, all kids, all people, all dogs even the aggressive one up the street!!Joe
loves more than anything his boxer friend Harry!!The boys romp and charge around together. They also
lie in the grass licking each others faces.
Joe got an AVID chip and is also registered with the AKC.He had his 3yr rabies shot .He has some
issues with seasonal allergies and I treat his feet and eyes regularly.
UPDATE 3/8/07 - This month Joe found a new pack leader,Lobo,to play with.Lobo was adoptedfrom
the SPCA in September. He is a German Sheperd and the BOSS.Together with his owner(a friend and
neighbor) we have been exploring the woods around our new house. To my surprise we have found
some wonderful new walks.Joe just loves to follow Lobo everywhere.
Joe has been much calmer this month. He has really enjoyed climbing up in my husband's lap for an
evening cuddle. He drapes over him like a blanket(and sometimes almost slips off!)
UPDATE 2/16/07 - What a month!
Joe is doing just fine---it is the rest of us who are struggling!!!ha!ha!
First,Joe does NOT like the cold! He cringes by the door and I have to pull him outside at the first sight
of snow, wind or cold.(That is until he sees a buddy----then he is off and all memories of shivering are
gone!
To encourage Joe to go out when no buddies are around Joe gets to wear a tartan sweater and leather
booties. He is my first dog to love wearing them!Joe is a lap dog in a boxer body!!!!
Well the big snowstorm finally arrived this week.Joe was horrified!!!I took him out in the evening to go
to the bathroom---but he just didn't know what to do.We were out there for hours! Then he kept
waking me in the night---and we kept going out--but he would'nt go.I spent half the night outside ,in
pjs,in a snowstorm and still he wouldn't GO.This continued on into the morning poor Joe.He finally had
an accident in the house and then dashed outside to finish the job.
The kids love the snow and we have been out playing ALOT.Joe hides in the garage and tries to sneak
back in the house every time the door opens.I think he wishes he was adopted to Florida!
This has also been a month of chomping and chewing!!!Toys and items left on the floor have always
been popular targets for Joe---but this month Joe decided to take it a stage or two further!!After having
taken Joe on an hour walk he came home and ate the playroom sofa while I slept with a headache and
was exhausted from the walk. Not a good day.
A week later we saw dad off at the airport and took an hour and a half walk.We then stopped for ten
minutes to buy a new pet bed.Joe was behind a dog gate in the jeep.We emerged to find him chewing
the RooF of the jeep!!!!ARRRH!!!Did you know jeep ceilings cost $850??? Joe has always gone
everywhere in the car so I am not sure how I am going to handle this.
Well I took a look in Joe's mouth and it looks like his molars are coming in.I just hope they hurry up.
Joe continues to play with 4 yr old Harry.Joe is now the same size and build as Harry. They look like
identical twins.I can really see how Joe has grown as he used to look skinny with long puppy legs.
UPDATE 1/7/06 - Joe had a great Christmas with lots of walks in the woods and cuddles on laps--he
is HEAVY!
Joe continues to play with Harry and Jake. Joe is now the top dog with Jake and he really wears Jake
out---but they play so enthusiastically together. Harry on the other hand is the BOSS and gives Joe a
run for his money! He taught Joe how to play tug and they will spin round and round in circles. When it
is time to leave I put Joe on a leash and Harry tries to grab it and run off with Joe.
In our new house Joe now has his own walk in shower--I warm it up and in he gets! I think he enjoys it
as he does not try to get out. However cutting his nails is another story. It is a huge struggle. Most of the
time his nails are short from walking but I am trying to get him used to the sensation of having his feet
touched. He does not like it. Any tips?
UPDATE 12/15/06 - Joe is doing well.He is now 55lbs but still enjoys sitting on your lap and being
carried. He has some mild allergy symptoms, but we are not too sure what is causing them.---probably
caused by the warm weather.
Joe continues to play with Harry the boxer --oh how they love to play!Finding Harry has been the best
thing for Joe.He has also made a new friend Jake the 1yr old lab who loves to play too.
Joe still goes to bed when the boys start bathtime. He loves to sleep in their room with his head dangling
out of his dog bed.We have noticed whenever he sleeps on a couch or bed his head dangles off the side
and he always looks like he is about to fall!--Once or twice he has slipped off much to the amusement
of the boys who think he is so funny.
Nanna is now visiting and she loves to go walking in the woods. For the past week Joe has enjoyed his
morning walk in the woods.
Joe was very unsure about the snow we had for a couple of days----until he saw the boys racing
round. Then he went crazy.HE loved it and we are looking forward to Harry and Joe playing in the
snow together.
UPDATE 11/9/06 - We are now settling into our new house and routine.Joe is doing well and is getting
bigger by the week.We have had alot of workmen at the house and Joe has been a popular
playmate! The guys just seem to love it when he is crazy! As a result we are now working on "OFF!"
again!
Joe had an upset tummy for a few days--but is all better now.During the night,he woke me up every
hour to go outside-which is amazing for such a young dog.
Joe walks or runs twice a day around our new neighborhood. He is busy getting to know all the
dogs. Many are behind invisible fences,so there are lots of barks and tail wags.Joe is still submissive with
other dogs and wants to play, play, play. He has been playing with Roxy,a 4mth lab and Lobo, just
adopted from the SPCA.He also enjoys joining a cute little pug on her walks. However,Joe's favorite
new friend is Harry.Harry is a 4yr old boxer.Joe and Harry look like twins except Harry is
bigger.People get them confused.Harry and Joe had alot of fun together and so I hope they can play
together regularly.
UPDATE 10/9/06 - Joe moved house. This was an unexpected, rather fast move for us all.Joe adapted
to the change amazingly well.He just seemed to accept that this is where we were going to be.He did
not show any sign of anxiety unlike when we first took him on vacation.
Our new house is much bigger--for the boys and Joe to grow in.It has a big yard, lots of woods and
neighbors with dogs. Joe has discovered crickets near the garage and loves to chase them.
Joe takes his toys to a cosy stair half-way between the kitchen and the basement.
Joe loves to play with the children---no matter what the game!During our recent move he spent hours
going in and out of a cardboard box with the boys--happily being a pirate!
On walks and doggy dates Joe is always the over enthusiastic submissive dog.He will do anything for a
game of ball or chase. He has been playing ball with a lab called Sherry and he has been going on dates
with Apollo the doberman,Mrs Sanchez(tiny dog)and their owner Joe's veterinary nurse.
Obedience classes are going well.Joe is the most friendly and most silly dog in the class. He just wants
to love everyone.Joe now is walking and running on a leash without pulling. He comes when I ring a bell
or blow a whistle. He can sit and stay and does this really well when waiting to get into the car.He also
shakes paws.
UPDATE 9/9/06 - Joe is settled and doing well.He has gained 10lbs and has had all his shots. We had
the vet check out his hips, muscles and nerves as he tends to fallover quite alot.(e.g. when running
fast, going up and down stairs and steps)The vet's verdict was he is just clumsy(in the cutest possible
way).We have had several boxers pups and he really is the most uncoordinated! It really adds to his
charm!
Joe is a SWEETHEART and is VERY GENTLE with the boys who ADORE him.We all enjoy long
walks in our woods every morning and afternoon.Joe loves to sunbathe on the deck and now loves his
cosy dog beds too.At 8pm,when the boys go to bed,Joe curls up for the night and there is no coaxing
him back downstairs. In the morning he will stay in bed (unless disturbed by my 3 year old) until it is time
to leave for school!
Joe went on his first vacation to the lake in New Hampshire. He was nervous and anxious on the
journey, but soon settled down when we got there.I could see he is attached to me.The weather was
quite cool,so we did not swim.Knowing Joe loved to swim we tried everything to get him to go in,but
he wouldn't.Instead he jumped from rock to rock across the water. We also went on lots of muddy
walks. On the journey home Joe seemed relaxed and content.
This week Joe was stung by a bee on his cheek. My previous boxer,Bella, was stung 4x and reacted
very badly----so I had all the medication on hand and for once knew what to do!Joe looked AWFUL
for a couple of hours but was soon his crazy self again.
UPDATE 8/8/06 - Joe Boxer is a wonderful dog--just perfectly gentle with my kids.
Joe had a long drive home from NJ and developed kennel cough on the way.Our first trip out was to
the vets.Having taken 2 previous boxers there everyone was keen to meet Joe. Joe loved the attention
and wiggled his little bot like crazy. As he had kennel cough we had to keep him away from other
dogs--we have lots of woods so he was still able to have awalk.Joe was well after about 7 days.
Joe spent his first day exploring the house, playing very gently with the boys and sunbatheing on the
deck.At first he ate his food quickly, and had a few toilet accidents.I stay home and only leave him for
an hour a couple of times a week.Ithink this helped him settle down quickly.Within a couple of days he
was eating slowly and clean in the house and his crate
JOE LOVES---------

my 5 year old
to drink from the toilet bowl?????
to try and sneak in bed with my 3 year old

"the boys sometimes forget and leave their half-eaten food at the table"
FUNNY STUFF---------
Joe ran out of the house in fright the first time he heard my son play the piano
Joe often sleeps in the sun,on his back, with his legs wide open
During his first week I was wiping my son's hands after breakfast and looked up to see Joe ON the
dining room table!
Things are going well.Joe has bonded to me and responds well to training and affection. He is a
sweetheart
7/8/06 - Joe has been adopted!
7/2/06 - Dear future Mom and dad wanted to let you know I'm having a great time at Camp On my
first day here. I learned how to swim the camp counselor's like I'm a natural. The kept saying

here...real funny.... just telling ya there not) lol lol My camp counselors are very impressed with my
personal habits..... I don't wet the bed like some of the other campers. Yup all dry.......... I'm a good
