4/17/06 - Well, Jedi has officially wiggled his way into my heart & home and has found his forever home right here!
Sadly, I just had to put one of my dogs down due to health reasons and my boxer girl Sandi & I just could not be
alone without another permanent baby.   Jedi & Sandi get along great and are about the same age and match each
other's play activity levels.  Jedi cuddles in bed (under the covers like Sandi of course!) every night and loves it here
too.  After fostering him for 10 months and treating him just like one of my own babies, how could I tell him he was
NOT home already? LOL   I know he always knew & I think Sandi did too, just took me a little longer to admit it.  Since
we don't know Jedi's date of birth I have decided that 6/25, the day he came into rescue to start his new life, will be
the date we will celebrate.  Welcome to the family Jedi!

1/30/06 - Hi there, it's me-Jedi!  Time flies when you are having fun & boy do I always have fun!  My middle name is
"Happy Boy" as Foster Mom tells me I always have a goofy look on my face & tiny nub of a tail is always wagging!
Why has my new home not come along yet?!   I see all the other dogs getting adopted that come through my foster
home, but I am still waiting.  I would love to be cuddling with you by the fireplace & snuggling in bed with you.  I have
lots of spunk in me, but I am not annoying about it at all.  I am just as happy to play keep away with you & my favorite
ball, then we can just hang out.

I am also a great "watch dog" as I WATCH everything going on in the neighborhood!   Foster Mom calls me a "nosey
busy body", I think that's a compliment, I'll have to go look that one up...   I get along with everyone here, but I would be
super happy as an only pet if you were around to keep me company.   I LOVE kids, but since my hips sometimes
bother me & I can get a little sore, I would be best to live with a little bit older kids (like 10 & up) that understand I am
not a young pup anymore.

Oh, another thing I love doing is riding in the car!  Just say the word & I am hoping & a jumping all over the place,
ready to go!  I ride perfectly too & I am a great navigator, I can spot a Dunkin Donuts or McDonald's a mile away!
Mom tells me to remind you I LOVE my medicine that I take every day!  I won't give you any trouble with taking that.
She calls it my "treat" & boy do I agree!   She also told me to let you know since I take less now (half a pill a day), that I
won't cost you an arm and a leg to keep as it comes out to less than $15 per month for my pills!   What a bargain!
You can get me, a bed warmer, house watcher, car watcher, playmate & best buddy, for almost nothing!
PLEASE, PLEASE ask for me.  Mom loves me tons & I love it here, but she has MANY more boxers like me that need
my foster dog space in her home so they do not get killed, like I could have.    I'll be waiting for your phone call &
ready to go for my ride to my new home!

11/17/05 - Okay, this is one SPECIAL boy!  Yes, he has his "quirks", but don't we ALL?  Jedi needs a really special
home that will give him the love he needs.  I have backed him down to just half a pill of Rimadyl a day (I hate to over
medicate) & that seems to be just perfect for him.  He runs & bounces & jumps like a crazy boy when he is excited,
but he is a pretty mellow dog overall.  I think he would love to be an only pet if he was given some spoiling.  He needs
a home that will invite him to sleep on the bed & let him snuggle on the couch too--he really needs this bonding time
& thrives so much on it.

Jedi & my boxer girl, Sandi, love to play keep away & tug with each other.   Jedi's favorite toy is a big, soft squeeky ball
that he will play fetch with you & keep away too.  His tail wags constantly when he is playing & you can just see him
smiling from ear to ear!  Jedi does go crazy when he sees other dogs outside & has a fixation with bikes &
motorcycles-he tried to chase a guy on a Harley the other day, luckily the leash was tight in my hand! LOL  A nice
country home, ahhhhh, Jedi's dream! :)

Jedi is going to be a very hard one for me to let go, but for the right home he will make you as happy as he has made
me.

9/14/05 - Jedi has been on Rimadyl for the past month for his hip dysplasia & he is a brand new dog!   He runs &
plays like a crazy boy now & is much happier!   He gets half a pill in the AM & half a pill in the PM.  Jedi gets so wild
running 100 mph through the house now, jumping the cats & any other thing in the way as he goes!  He smiles the
whole time he does this too & his tongue flaps in the wind.  Since the surgery is so unknown for recovery for Jedi &
we do not want him to possibly come out of it worse off than he is now, we have decided not to put Jedi through the
hip surgery as he is doing so well on the Rimadyl.  It is not an expensive thing to keep him on either, only about $25
per month.

Jedi is such a sweet boy & loves to cuddle in bed at night.  He cannot be crated as he has too much anxiety about
that, but he does great hanging out in my bedroom with my other two dogs when I am at work. Jedi LOVES to eat & is
very food motivated!  Just say the word "treat" or "dinner" around him & watch those ears fly upright & his eyes bug
out & he will smile!  I have never known a dog to smile so much as he does now!   His tail also goes non-stop all the
time!  He went to the Petco Boxer Rescue Awareness Day we had in Maine last month & we kept laughing at how his
tail didn't stop.  He loved all the attention from kids to adults, but really did not know what to think about any small
dogs he saw (he wanted to chase them!).  I think he was thinking they were cats in funny suits! :)

Jedi does still like to chase my cats when he can get away with it, so a home with no cats will probably be best after
all, just so he does not risk being returned in case he does not adjust well with the next cats, or vice versa.  He loves
my two dogs & gets along great with them, but he still has issues with new dogs coming into "his house".  He will be
okay to live with big, older dogs that do not want to play with him much, but he will need to be introduced slowly &
should not live with a dominant dog that may like to challenge for position too much.  Jedi is great as a watchdog &
will let you know when someone is too close to the house or if something is not right.  He has taken over this duty
from my older boy who use to patrol the house, guess it is time for his break for now! :)   Jedi does bark a lot at things
he sees out the window when I am not right there to tell him it is okay, so he would not do well in a condo/apartment
or big city type setting.  He would be happier in a home in a normal neighborhood or in a more rural area with a few
chipmunks to chase once in awhile.

Please think about giving this very happy boy his permanent home ASAP.  This is one I will miss A LOT!   I rarely say
it as I know I need to make room for the next foster that needs me, but with Jedi I have said MANY TIMES "if only I had
room for one more!".   He is now ready to go & waiting for the call!

8/9/05 - I picked up Jedi last night from the vet after his x-rays and boy was he groggy!   He was hardly able to stand
and would fall over when he tried to lift his leg to go pee!  I kept telling him it was okay & no one would notice if he
peed like a "girl dog"! LOL

On a sad note though, we did get news from the orthopedic specialist that Jedi does have severe hip dysplasia.  He
said Jedi is a good candidate for surgery using the Femoral Head Ostectomy(FHO) procedure.   This is not a total
hip replacement, but more to do with the ball portion of the hip joint.   Here is some info on the procedure
: "In the
surgery, the ball portion of the hip joint (the femoral head) is removed and the bone smoothed, if necessary, so that
no bone to bone contact occurs between the pelvis, which contains the now empty socket and the remaining portion
of the femur. The joint is not stabilized, it is destroyed. While that sounds bad, this surgery will provide reasonable
comfort. A "false joint" forms, consisting of fibrous scar tissue around the bone end. This forms in the muscles over
the hip, which fortunately are strong enough to provide some stability. It is less painful than leaving the dislocated
femoral head rubbing against the pelvic bone.
"   Dr. Todd also said we could try Rimadyl to help with his pain and
see how he does after a few weeks, but since Jedi is not too old and does not have any other medical or behavioral
issues, that the surgery will most likely be needed.  We want to do what is best for Jedi, so he will be put on Rimadyl
this weekend to help out and go from there.

8/8/05 - Jedi went to the specialist today & they think he has hip dysplasia.  They are keeping him for the day as they
need to put him under to do x-rays to see if that is the case and to determine how bad it is and what can be done to
help him.   Keep Jedi in your thoughts as he is such a sweet boy
!

5 - Jedi is one great boy!  He actually played a lot with my boxer girl the other day & was running around the
house like a crazy boy with an empty soda bottle!  With dozens of great dog toys laying around of course the soda
bottle was MUCH more fun to him! :)  He has been doing well with the cats, but still needs them or me to remind him
once in awhile that they are not play things ("Oh, but they are SOOOO much fun, Mom!").  No wimpy kitties for Jedi, he
needs ones that are the rulers of the house and not afraid to let him know it when needed.

Jedi has the funniest bathroom routine at my house: first he has to grab a last minute drink of water, then he runs out
with my two dogs and will pee in a couple of spots, then he wants to run back in the house for a minute to get
another drink, then he runs back outside to finish his business!   Even my dogs are now use to him running into the
house & then coming back out to finish (they use to run in with him trying to figure out what was so exciting in the
house when they had not finished their business yet, now they know it's just Jedi's kooky routine!).

Jedi also has down the bedtime drill & as soon as I say "Let's go to bed", he is first at the bedroom door waiting for
me to open it so he can claim his spot on the bed.  He is a good snuggler & not a bed hog.  He does great sleeping
on the bed at night & in the morning I even have to tell him to get up now as he is just so happy & comfortable.

I have noticed Jedi has some sort of issue with either his back leg(s) or hips, making him act stiff or like he is sore.
We have an appointment on Monday to see the vet to get this checked out further.  Watch for more updates soon on
this wonderful bo
y!

5 - Jedi is doing very well & has fit right back in with my gang.  He loves going for car rides & walks & does well
now walking on the leash.  He reallyl enjoyed all the attention he received Saturday at the SCBR info table (BRAD) we
had setup in Pet Quarters in Brunswick.  It was funny that he & another foster, Buster, would seem to compete for
attention if someone was paying too much to the other!

Jedi just loves being with people, more than anything else.  I have discovered he has some slight seperation anxiety
issues as he will bark when I crate him to leave for work & I can hear him carrying on still when I am outside.  He
also has a hard time putting on weight & keeping it on, which are common with dogs with seperation issues.  Last
night he was so happy & being such a good boy that I just did not have it in me to put him in his crate for bed time like
I had been.   So, I figured time to see what he is like out of his crate & see how he would be joining the dogs on my
bed.  Well, you could SEE Jedi smiling from ear to ear as I told him to join us in the bedroom!   Then his eyes even
sparkled more when I patted the bed & told him it was ok to come up!   He jumped up & started rolling around on the
bed with his nose shuffling the covers, all excited & soooooo happy!  I think he had some sort of flash back to maybe
when he was allowed to share someone's bed.   So, sucker that I am, I let Jedi sleep on the bed & he snuggled next
to me all night, happy as a kid in the candy store.  Not a peep until I made him wake up this AM, which is not usually
the bedtime or morning we have been dealing with (usually wined awhile at bedtime & then early in the AM again
when he was crated at night).   So, no more crating for this guy at bedtime, he's successfully graduated to the extra
special foster dog privelage of sharing the bed! :)

So, if you have a nice dog bed on the floor near you in the livingroom and a space on your bed (or a dog bed beside
it) at bedtime, then you have your best buddy here waiting for you!   Don't let this great boxer pass you by
.

05 - I'm baaaaacckk!!!   Hi, it's me, Jedi.  I am very bummed I could not stay with my new Mom & Dad, but their
young boxer was driving me NUTS!  I love to be with my people & get along fine with other dogs, but a guy needs his
rest sometimes.  My new home took great care of me & I look much better then I did after coming in from the shelter
last time.  I have put on at least 5 pounds, still have about another 5 to go, & my coat is coming in better too with all
the good food.

What do I want for my new home?  Well, I would be happy as an only dog or with another dog.  If I lived with another
dog, they need to be more middle aged or older would be best.  I do have some slight food issues at times, so I
would rather not have to worry about little people stealing my food, so older kids or none would be great.  I prefer to
sleep on a dog bed near you then in my crate & I am a good boy.  I love going for rides & listening to the radio in the
car (now that I figured out no one is in the door of the car!).   I do like to play chase cats that are afraid of me, but if you
have cats like the ones in this house (they don't run & will smack me!) , then I will have total respect for them!
Please ask for me soon, I'm ready to move to my new home
!

5 - Unforunately Jedi is coming back to find a different type of home.  His new family is sad to see him go, but
their young boxer is just way too playful (& cluelesss, per his Mom!-LOL) to understand when it is time to stop
playing.   Jedi likes to play with him, but he is over that super crazy young boxer stage & likes to have his "chill out"
moments.  Their other dog does not know how to take a hint (or a direct comment!) from Jedi & gets on his nerves.
Jedi would do well in a home with a dog more his speed, a little older & less playful.   He will be coming back on
Saturday.  I'll try to get some pictures of him to
o!

7/3/
05 - Jedi was adopted!

6/30/0
5 - Jedi did great with his neuter & tested negative for heartworm!  He is ready to go home now!

6/29/05(part
2) - Jedi saw the vet this afternoon & he weighed only 50 lbs (has about 10 lbs to gain).  The vet said he
is no older than 4 years old in his opinion.  Since Jedi does have grey on his fawn side of his face, we'll compromise
& say he's probably around 4-5 years old.  Jedi refuses to tell us his true age!  :)  Wish him luck as he gets neutered
& heartworm tested in the morning
.

6/29/
05 - Jedi is being a very good boy!  He met Captain(one of my other fosters) last night and & Jedi was great with
him.  He also does not care about the cats, really acts like he may have lived with cats before.  I did a brief
introduction to my two dogs & no issues there either.  Jedi does well in the crate, but did not want to go in the
Vari-Kennel style one as much as the wire crate.  I think he prefers the open view.

Jedi had his bath last night (well, really a shower as I don't have a tub) & he really enjoyed it.  I thought he was going
to float away though as he thought it was fun to try to drink ALL the water that was coming down on him from the
shower head!   I kept telling him he needed to save some of it for me to rinse him off! LOL   At least he smells &
looks a lot better now too.

He rode great in the car with me last night too as I took him to spend a couple days at Leann's, so he could go to the
vet this Thursday for his neuter, etc.  Jedi kept looking at me & gave me the most gentle little kisses on the ride.  It
was if he was saying "Thank you" for all that helped get him safely into rescue & that he now was on his way to his
new life.  The more I get to know him, the more I see what rough shape he is in & how he must have had a hard time
at some point.  He is very skinny, has some areas of scarring & drinks a lot of water, like he is dehydrated.  He also
acted like he wanted to snuggle but did not know how to yet, so he just curled up on the front seat of the car as I
petted him & told him he will never be lost and alone agai
n.

6/26/
05 - Jedi arrived late last night & is settling into his crate right now for bedtime after a long day of travelling.
Thank you so much to Terry C. & her friend who drove from NH to NJ & back to get Jedi & some other dogs out of one
of our favorite shelters!   He is a cute white boxer with a docked tail, natural ears & a big fawn patch over one side of
his face.  We are guessing he is about 5-6 years old & will see what the vet's opinion is too when he sees him later
this week.  He will need neutered & to get updated on his shots.

Jedi rode great in the car with me to my house & was a good co-pilot once I convinced him that it was ME that was
going to drive!   He was fascinated by the noise coming out of the speaker in the door of the passenger side when I
turned on the talk radio.  He kept looking at the door with his ears perked up and was very quickly turning his head
side to side.  I think he was wondering where the two guys were hiding in the door! LOL

When we walked in the house Jedi briefly meet one of my cats & did not seem too interested yet, but the cage of
Cockatiel birds was much more exciting to him at that time.   After he settles in some I will see how he gets along
with the cats & my dogs.  Watch for more updates & pictures soon on this nice b
oy!
