UPDATE 4/8/11 - Both dogs are still doing great! Janey's heart murmur has improved a lot and she has been
happier now that she has her buddy, Brittle. Brittle was successfully spayed and microchipped last year and has
turned into a great family friend. She is slightly delusional however, somehow believing that she is queen of the
castle ;o) Janey doesn't seem to mind and let's Britt win in just about everything (ok, Brittle plays DIRTY with
attacking ears and haunches lol) EXCEPT tug of war. Janey is queen of that. =) Both dogs enjoy regular runs and
car rides - so thrilled to have them in our family! =)
3/19/06 - Janey has been adopted!
2/20/06 - My little Janey went to get her spay stitches out this morning. The whole office at the vets just loves this
girl! She wanted to make friends with everyone there; even the pregnant kitty in the box. Kitty was having none of
that! She up to 52# now. I'd like to see her gain 3-5 more to be in perfect weight. What a problem to have! We just
love Janey to pieces. In some ways she's better behaved then the resident boys. She comes when called; what a
concept! She just loves to run and play, too. She needs some work walking on the leash though. She just is in
such a hurry to meet and smell everything that she lugs on the leash. She rides exceptionally well in the car and is
always ready to go. Janey will make a wonderful companion for anyone: single person or family; only dog or not,
she gets along with my boys, but would also love to be the center of your world; kids . . . loves them; I can't think of
anywhere she wouldn't thrive. Janey is now ready to move on from the Boxer Boot Camp. I'll miss her to pieces, but
know that she will make someone else as happy as she's made me. Will you be that lucky person?
2/16/06 - Janey gets her spay stitches out on Monday. She should be ready to go then. What a doll she is!
2/10/06 - Can I just tell you all what a joy this little girl is? She has come around in such a short time it is amazing.
We had her back to the vet yesterday for a quick check up and she has gained 1.5 pounds. I was hoping it would
be more, as she eats like a little pig! She is learning the fine art of boxer play and initiates playing with Louie more
and more. She's had one accident in the last week and that was totally my fault. Janey has been going out with me
when it's time to do her business; she seems to prefer that you watch . . . Not sure what that means, if anything.
The other day she mastered coming in through the dog door without any problem. Going out, she's hesitant
but has done that twice.
The whole time she's been here, she's showed no interest in getting on any furniture. Except the bed. From day
one, whenever the bedroom door is open, she pops up on the bed just like she belongs there. And she does like
to sleep with me at night. Last night however, after they'd all been outside romping in the new snow, when they
came in she just hopped up on the couch with Louie. Just like that. Of course, my house belongs to the dogs . . .
they
just let me stay here, so I had no problems with her on the sofa. She is just as sweet as could be, loves to give
kisses! And she's learned to sit nicely for her "cookie." They lucky family that adopts this little girl is getting all
things nice wrapped up in a small package!
2/3/06 - Well, it seems that we've crossed the hump. After rough days Wednesday and Thursday lil' Miss Plain
Jane is feeling much better. Her spay was complicated by some bleeding that forced the vet to put her back under
anesthesia, reopen the incision and tie off a vessel, then re-suture her. Her belly is one big bruise! After all that
anesthesia, all she did was vomit after the surgery and all day yesterday. Poor baby couldn't even keep water
down. Today I cooked her up some venison and brown rice and mixed in some pumpkin. Her appetite is back in
spades! AND, drum roll please, she is getting the hang of going potty outside! Yay Janey!
She and Louie have rough- housed quite a bit today. She keeps up with him and the fact that he is about 30#
heavier than she is doesn't seem to bother her a bit. She even picked a bone out of the toy box to chew on tonight.
She is really a sweet little girl. Watching her come out of her shell is like watching a rose bloom. It's too bad she
had such a tough start in her life; she's really enjoying being a boxer these days.
1/30/06 - She seems like a sweet little girl and was a stray picked up by a shelter we work with. I have not named
her as of yet. The shelter was calling her Lulu, but since I have a Louie already, that will be way too confusing. My
husband suggested Plain Jane as that's exactly what she is, and since he's not happy about another dog coming
in, maybe that will appease him. Probably not. I'll see if something pops out at me as I get to know her personality.
I do believe she's had a litter of pups. She has no idea how to play, but Mikey and Louie are giving her a crash
course. House training seems to not have been part of her previous life. She is a bit timid and very skittish right
now, but no evidence of abuse. The tips of her ears have healing sores so she was probably on the streets during
the cold spell of a few weeks ago. She seems very willing to please me so I'm hoping that the house training will
be easy. She has an appointment Wednesday a.m. to be spayed and heartworm tested. I'll get a picture today and
submit that. Even though the hubby says 3 dogs are two too many, I just couldn't say no to this girl and am happy
to be helping.
