11/7/06 - I dropped Jackpot off at the Emergency Room Vet last night about 6:30 PM or so, and we had to carry him inside.  Poor baby.  He looked so sad & scared.  Ken instructed the ER vet to go step by step.  X-Ray showed spots (fluid) in the lungs, & enlarged heart - clotting - abnormalities - cardiac fungus (apparently common in the south). Blood work off the charts - everything was either extremely high or extremely low. Put him on IV antibiotic, he continued to decline & went into renal failure.  Even if they did blood transfusions, they didn't think things would get better.  Vet recommended euthanasia & it was done about 11 PM last night. I really wish I had better news :(

11/6/06 -
OK, the story now is that our vet looked at him, gave him Clavamox & Rimadyl (good grief!), and sent him back to the shelter.  Ken (the manager) is pretty worried about him, and is going to take him over to our emergency room.  Ken says he now has some blood coming out in his urine & maybe from the nose.  Ken is going to call me & let me know what the ER has to say.

-   I got a call on Saturday morning that Jackpot was limping, and they had given him a Rimadyl (he came with -apparently for arthritis).  I got another call yesterday that he was not eating, limping badly, and there was foam all over his kennel.  I did not panic, since I am quite familiar with Boxer Belly, but I just got another call from the shelter.  We have a vet tech in volunteering today, and she is concerned about him.  She says his temp is 104, and his lower belly is very painful.  When she tried to palpate the lower abdomen, he 'leaked'  urine.  He is going to see the shelter vet asap.

11/5/06 - I just wanted to let you know that Mr. Jackpot is starting to decline a bit at the shelter.  Apparently, he started limping on Friday, and I got a call yesterday that he wouldn't put any weight on his front leg.  I gave the OK to give him a Rimadyl, and I just got another call that he is not eating, and there is foam in his kennel.  I will go over later today, and see if I can get him to eat some canned food.  They are saying he is shaking and acting weird.  Thank God I've been through the Boxer belly, or that would scare me!

- Jackpot is an 8 year old Boxer that was surrendered to a shelter we work with, because he has severe seperation anxiety.  He is just waiting for a foster home to open up for him next week.  I met Mr. Jackpot today (I think he has the wrong name!).  What a sweetie!  He seemed fine, and was very happy to see me.  When all the other dogs were barking, he was just standing there wagging his little stump.  He's been behaving himself nicely, and I got a big bag of lamb & rice food for him from Sandy's, so he should be well fed - if he eats.  I don't think he's eating much, but it's really hard to tell!
