UPDATE 2/21/07 - We just relized we've had Ivan for a full year.  He is fully adjusted and a memeber of our family.
He gets along fine with the dogs he is familiar with and we are working on his manners when he meets new
friends.  We have limited occasion to meet other dogs and we still have some room to improve.  He is more
protective of Casey when it is just the two of them.  The obedience training help ease the anexiety he was having
when we first brought him home and it help establish the rank in our pack.
Ivan is a very healthy and happy boxer.  After our experience with Jackson, Casey and I are probably a little neurotic
and take him to see our vet for minor nuances but he actually seems enjoy the attention.  Casey runs with him 3-4
times each week and he gets some sort of excercise every day (more than I can say).  Ivan greets me at the door
every day when I get home from work because he knows it is time to play.  I have started not to make such a BIG
enterance as Ivan is starting to assume anyone walking through the door not only wants to play with him, but is
ready to play with him before the door closes.
Casey and I are absolutely amazed at the number of hourse that Ivan is capable of sleeping.  Outside of his
morning excercise with Casey, and evening palytime with me, I honestly think he would sleep the entire 8 hours in
between if he were allowed to.  He snores like a freight train too!!!
As for funny stories, we have had relatively mild winters here in CNY since we brought Ivan home a year ago.  Well
reality has paid us a visit and we have received 3+ feet of snow and 0-15 degree days for the last few weeks.  Lets
just say Ivan is not a big fan of the cold or snow.  We bought him some "Paw-tector" boots to proect dogs feet from
the cold.  When we put them on, he had no idea what we had done to him of what these things were on his were.
He walked like he was stepping out of a snowbank. I don't know how to describe it but you may see our video on
America's Funniest.  We normally don't try to humilite our friends, canine or human, and we really had Ivans best
interest at heart, but the outcome of our kind hearted act was some of the funniest stuff I have ever seen.
Casey and I putting an addition on the house this summer and getting married in the fall.  Once the dust settles
from all this, we'll be looking to add another member to our pack.  I hope all is well at SCBR.

2/06 - Ivan has been adopted!

2/20/06 - Ivan is continuing to settle in here and he is just the best boy to foster. He is so eager to please and
behaves so well and looks to us for approval when we give him a command as if to say "Am I being a good boy?"
He is so sweet and adorable and loves attention. His pictures have not captured totally how cute he really is. He
has a face like a 9 month old pup. He loves to play and loves his toys, especially the squeeky ones and balls. He
really enjoys laying on the raised dog bed in our sunroom just looking out the window and watching the birds and
squirrels at the feeders. The first day he barked at the squirrels, but now he accepts them calmly and just watches
them. He really adjusts to things quickly, but I guess he has had to being in his third home in not quite three years.
I think he must be wondering why he doesn't get to stay, because he is so good and behaves so well. I really
cannot imagine anyone not wanting to keep him. My 8 year old grandson spent the weekend, and Ivan was in his
glory to have a youngster to play with. They played so much that Ivan was worn out and took a much needed long
nap stretched out right in the middle of the floor. We have been working on getting him used to being around other
dogs, and it is coming along well. We walk him with our boxer boy, Mugsie, and they have been doing much better
together. Ivan just doesn't seem to know how to behave around other dogs. I am not sure he has been around
them much or has had a bad experience with them. When we have our dogs with him in the same room on a
leash, he sits very close to the person holding the leash as if to need protection. Despite that, I cannot say enough
good things about this guy. He is looking for a forever mom or dad who has time for him to cuddle him, play with
him, take good care of him, and give him the attention he so loves and needs. In return you will get one of the best
friends of your life and lots and lots of unconditional love.

2/12/06 - Ivan has been here over a week now in his foster home and he is adjusting quite well. At first he seemed
so sad and was definitely missing his home. He has now gotten his appetite back after a few days of not wanting
to eat much at all. He will even clean up after the other dogs, which is quite a switch! Ivan is little for a boxer, not as
tall as most, but very sturdy. Actually he is the perfect size dog, not too big and not too small. He is fawn with a
white stripe up his nose to his head. He met my grandchildren yesterday and it was love at first sight. We all went
outside and he ran around with them being very playful, but not rough. He is quite calm for his age and does settle
down when told to. He is still gated away from our dogs because he doesn't seem to like other dogs. I think Ivan
might be best as the only dog in a home. He might have had a bad experience with another dog at one time,
because he seems to go after them out of fear. It might be something that can be worked through at obedience
class as I think he needs to build up his confidence. He is very, very smart and also very obedient and would be
alot of fun to work with because of this. He listens very well to both me and his foster dad. He is a total love and I
know anyone who would adopt him and give him lots of love and attention would be rewarded with a wonderful
devoted companion!

2/06/06- Ivan has been here for a couple days now and he continues to be a sweetie. He minds very well and does
whatever he is told, like "go into the crate", "sit", "come", and "shake". He is a very smart little boy who seems to be
somewhat sad and depressed. I know he is missing his home. He isn't eating too well, and his stomach has
been a bit upset so we have given him some oatmeal, hamburg, yogurt and a little canned food in small amounts.
He
had an outside meeting with our dogs all on leashes and he was growly with our girl, Joy. She was all waggly tail
with him, so I am not sure what that was about. We will try again in a few days, as I think he is very insecure
right now and doesn't know what is going on. Ivan loves his crate and it seems that he has spent alot of time in it
before and is very comfortable there. We leave the door of his crate open when we are home and he goes in
to sleep or just to lie down. His new home would definitely need to have a crate for him as I think he feels very
secure there and needs that with all this transition. His info that came from the shelter filled out by his owner said
Ivan didn't like the cold. Well, tonight I put a coat on him and took for a nice long walk and he loved it, although it is
windy and cold. He really likes to walk and would make a wonderful walking buddy for someone because he is so
easy to walk. Ivan is truly a sweet little boy and he will make someone a wonderful companion and best friend. I
know he would just love to have a special person that would love him to pieces, make him an important part of
their life, give him a cozy, safe, forever home, so he won't ever have to end up in an animal shelter and go through
this again.

2/4/06 - We have a new guest at our house today. His name is Ivan and is he adorable! I picked him up at one of
our local shelters this morning. His previous owner changed jobs and didn't have any time for Ivan anymore and
felt really bad. He had only been there a few days and already everyone was in love with him. As I was putting him
in the car, an older man that was working in the yard there came up to say good-bye. He said that he had walked
Ivan earlier that morning and slipped on the ice and Ivan stayed right beside him until he could get up! He said he
hopes that Ivan finds a terrific forever home that he sure does deserve! He has been wonderful here in his foster
home and we love him already, too. He goes into his crate when told, slept in it for a few hours this afternoon and
now is gated in the kitchen where he can see what is going on. He walks wonderfully on a leash and loves to play,
but settles down when told to. The boxer/rottie mix dog next door came running out when we walked by and Ivan
didn't seem to care. We will slowly let him socialize with our dogs.  I think he is the perfect dog and anyone who
adopts him will be so lucky to have such a well mannered and sweetheart as this guy is. He has the cutest little
face and is just a total love. I have a feeling he won't be here long.
