| ** NOTE: Because I am still a baby, I will only be placed in a home where someone is home often, such as retired, work at home, work opposite shifts, stay at home parent, etc. I will also need a fenced yard and another dog for company since I am deaf.** 9/15/06 - Iris had her spay surgery yesterday and everything went as planned. This morning you would never know that she had surgery! Little devil wants to play, play, play!! Her appetite is fine! She was weighed at the vet office and has gained a pound since she got here last week: she is now at 23 lbs. and growing! Sometimes, I think she can hear certain sounds: she jumped when Clara barked this morning. She was not facing in her direction at all. In fact, she was in a lap, half asleep. She is definitely deaf, but may be able to hear certain sounds. I am going to try her with a high pitched whistle today. Most things she cannot hear. I think it is mostly low-range that is possible. I think she would do very well with a vibrating collar, when she gets big enough to wear one. 9/10/06 - Iris is a champ at the food dish!! She just loves her food and wastes no time in consuming what is there. I don't know how much she was being fed before she came here, but I have increased her food by half over what I was giving her, and she is one happy little girl. She is making 'eye contact' which is the primary need when trying to train any dog, but especially a deaf dog. She knows sit, and good (thumbs up). She also walks pretty good on a leash. She has had only one accident in the house, so far, and is making good use of the dog door, going in and out. She is crate trained, but does fuss for a few minutes whenever we have to crate her. Then she settles down and takes a nap or sleeps through the night-depending on the circumstances. It is interesting to see her play with Rose as both are pups, but Rose outweighs Iris by 20 lbs! The main occupation for both is PLAY!! 9/7/06 - Iris joined our pack last night around 7 pm. Introductions were through the crate and she spent the night in the crate with no problems. When I took her out, she seemed to know just what was expected of her. This morning I allowed all dogs in the family room and out of doors! She already knows how to come in through the dog door and it won't be long before she is going out as well. She can snarl and box with the best of them! Sam must have a boxer sign that says "beat on me" as she already has his number! He is very good with her and after close supervision earlier this am, they are all good to go. Clara is a bit "put off", but will adapt. She is almost a clone of Rose, except she is deaf! She thinks she is a lap puppy and isn't a bit shy. I took pictures this morning and after grocery shopping will get them loaded on the other computer and send them off. I will also be making her spay app. today with Dr. Matt. I don't think she will be here long. |
