UPDATE 8/31/06 - Well Gulliver has been doing so good. His back leg is getting very strong, he loves to run we
have been taking him to the farm I grow up on and he just loves all the room he has to run and run. The other dogs
cant keep up. He has also been camping a few times this summer he'll do anything to be outside. He has slipped
his leash a few times but he always comes back, he use to run but now he knows were home is and he stays
near by.(untill I can catch him. hes quick). But other then that hes very much settled in and loved very very muched
We cant wait to adopt again

UPDATE 6/27/06 - well what can i say about Gulliver, not much has changed, he was pretty settled in after about
2weeks. He loves to be outside with us, but I think he might be afraid of water, or he's just being a wimp, but he will
always walk around puddles sniffing them like crazy but he'll never walk through them. its so funny to watch him.
He's also doing so much better with the cat (I think they see eye to eye now). He still tries to snuggle with Oscar
when he sleeps, and he thinks he's a lap dog all 65lbs of him.   We have been taking him for walks trying to get his
one back leg nice and strong but when he wants to stop and sniff like most dogs, he throws himself on the ground
and wont get up until he's ready to keep on walking.   I don't really have much to say about Gulliver he has adjusted
so well

UPDATE 6/15/06 - We just adopted Gulliver (the 3 legged wonder)
First I just want to start by thanking everyone that made our adoption process so quick and easy. And a Very big
thank you to His Faster Families that took such great care of him for us.
OK now i want to brag about Gulliver, our great new addition to the family.
Well the first night we got him, he came right in our house and made himself right at home, well that didn't settle
well with our dachshund Oscar or the cat. Ill just say we were all up a lot that night. But its been about 3 weeks now
and its like Gulliver has been apart of this family his whole live. You would never know that we just adopted him.
The dogs get along great, they play together, they snuggle on the couch together, they eat together,(out of the same
bowl, they do have their own but they like to eat together out of one), they do everything together. And the cats even
warming up to him. (when he's not trying to chase her).We were worried at first about Gulliver keeping up with us
but that dog runs circles around us.
And for whoever returned him for being to aggressive with kids thank you, but he is doing so good with my younger
cousins 5 and 10 they get right down on the floor with him and he just rolls around trying to get as much attention
from them that he possibly can.Gulliver is being the best brother to Oscar that he can and the best companion to
us that he can we love him so much already, and every day we find out something new about him and his
personality.
I can assure all of you that this is one dog that you will never see in a shelter again. We love him very much.

5/26/06 - Gulliver has been adopted!

5/2/06 - Hi everyone Gulliver here. I thought I would send in my own update because the ones my foster Mom has
written about me haven't helped find me a home.   really am tired of waiting for my family. I over heard my foster
Mom saying people are afraid to adopt me because I only have three legs, but that is just  silly because I don't just
have three legs, I have three legs and one very useful stump where my other leg used to be. It is great for clubbing
the other dogs in the head when we are playing! LOL  I am also the only dog in the house that is special enough to
have two collars. When my foster Mom was taking care of the extra collars I begged and begged and she finally put
another one on me and now that I have it I cry every time she tries to take it off. When a dog wears a collar it means
someone loves them so, as long as I keep both collars it means my foster family has to love me twice as much.
That is very important to me  because I don't have a real family to love me. Please if you are the family for
me don't make me wait any longer. It makes me so sad to see all the other  fosters come in and then get adopted
right away. I don't understand why no one wants me to love them.
Still sadly waiting,
Gulliver

3/12/06 - Well, poor Gulliver is still waiting for his forever home. I am very surprised people have not lined up to
take him home he is absolutely wonderful. There was some question of him being dominant when he was
returned but after re-evaluating him I think this must be a mistake. Gulliver has been very submissive while he has
been here. He has become the best friend to every dog in the house and has even used his considerable charm
to teach my grumpy eight year old female boxer how to play. She likes to be the boss and has never put up with any
funny business from the fosters but Gulliver can drape his stump over her head and kind of sit on her when she is
sleeping. I have never seen anything like it. Gulliver has adapted so well to having three legs that when he is
playing with other dogs he uses it to his advantage by jumping and spinning around quickly so he can use the
stump as a club of sorts. There is just not way he can be considered disabled anymore. There are only two things
that dogs with four legs can do that Gulliver can't. 1 counter surf and 2 jump up on people.  Both things we spend
years teaching other dogs not to do. Gulliver is almost perfect and the only thing he is missing is a family to call his
own.

1/29/06 - Gulliver is doing really well in his foster home but it is time for him to find his forever home. He loves
other dogs and would do very well in a home with another dog. He loves to play with all the dogs here. It occurred
to me that in all the pictures of Gulliver he is laying down and that might give the impression that he cannot stand
up well. That is certainly not the case. Gulliver just always lays down and rolls over on his back when I try to take a
picture of him. Infact that is Gullivers answer for everything. When he is in unsure what you want him to do he lays
down and rolls over. That is also how tries to get the little dogs here to play with him. He is always laying down on
his back in front of the cocker spaniel trying to get him to play with him. If you are looking for a strong active young
boy to join your family Gulliver might just be the dog for you.

1/1/06 - Gulliver was returned to rescue after almost 2 months because he was showing signs of dominance.
When he first came back I did see that a little bit but after about a week of letting him know I was in charge he is
right back to being a wonderful obedient boy. He is not at all limited by his missing leg and can run as fast as all
the other boxers here. The only time he has a problem is when he is playing with the other dogs and they move off
the rug. He has a hard time getting traction on the floor. I have him listed as not being good with kids just because
sometimes when a child drops something and reaches for it quickly Gulliver will dive after it too and not be very
careful. When kids are involved I think it is always better to be safe rather than sorry. I don't want people to get the
impression that he is not a wonderful dog. Gulliver is very smart and playful and he really wants someone to love
him. He has been through so much and it is time for him to have a family that will love him the way he deserves to
be loved.

12/13/05 - Sadly Gulliver's new family had to surrender him back to rescue today to find him another home.  He
was showing dominance with the daughter in the house and it was not getting any better.  More updates from his
foster home soon.

UPDATE 11/26/05 - Gullive, Gulliver, Gulliver. My crazy little Tripod. We have reached the half way point of our basic
obedience class. Gulliver has put those other pups to shame with his advanced knowledge. He is doing very well
with following commands. He actually puts Tye to shame some times, haha.  He has improved with his barking at
other dogs, and has calmed down some on his possessive snarling. Well, he still barks but settles down much
more quickly.  He does really enjoy the company of my friends young American Eskimo girl. She has been Tye's
friend since she was just an 8wk old puppy. We visit her house often. He gets very excited to see her. His
housebreaking is coming along, and he does well in his crate (minus one recent incident where he decided for
some odd reason to go into a barking and howling fit. I think that may be because Tye was with me for some one
on one time. My neighbor actually called because she has never heard either of the dogs do that before, and she
thought something was wrong. I rushed home only to find him laying quietly, thumping his tail. Veryyy sneaky!)
He definately seems to be bonding with me, and his confidence is improving daily. He also seems to fully realize
that we are his family. My friend has him in her car the other day, and I got out for a bit, and she said he panicked.
Later that night, while we were visiting, her cat started hissing and spitting at Tye (who thinks it's all a big game),
and Gulliver, who usually loves the company of kitties, went a little bezerk, and had to be restrained. He was ready
to eat the kitty for lunch. He and my cat, Tigger, love each other though. He and Tye have had some spats and
squabbles, all started by Tye, but no damage has been done and I feel confident that this is just an adjustment
period, and they will learn to work things out, and love each other even more. They play and snuggle much more
than they fight, which is a good thing in my opinion. His adorable face, and his constant requests for belly rubs
have won over the hearts of many. He truley is a joy to have.

UPDATE 10/31/05 - It has been a week and two days since Gulliver joined our little family. And what an eventful
week it's been!  He only got to spend 24 hours with his new Boxer brother Tye (fka Tye Dye adopted 02/04) before
Tye had to go to the emergency vet because he was having some stomach issues. It turned out he needed
surgery, so Gulliver began to feel like an only child. He has certainly come out of his shell. Tye is home, but on bed
rest, and Gulliver is anxiously awaiting his recovery so they can finally play together. Gulliver is a very smart little
boy. He is adapting more and more every day to his 3 legged status. He goes up and down the stairs without a
problem, including the uncarpeted stairs leading to my basement.  He runs around like a pro, and boy is he fast!
He wants to be around people all the time, except when he thinks you're going to put him in his crate. He's
definately not a fan of his crate.  He actually smacks at me with his paws when I bring to his crate, and will stretch
every limb out as wide as possible to avoid going in. He has improved on that through the use of treats and praise
however, but we still have a ways to go. He has attempted to chew on a few things here and there, but will quickly
stop once corrected, and won't go back to it. He has had a few accidents in the house, but I feel confident that that
will improve over time also. He seems eager to please, and I'm very excited about going to obedience with him. He
has made fast friends with the cat. They even sleep right next to eachother on the bed. He is absolutely adorable.
He loves to have belly rubs, and will literally bounce around when he is happy. I am very happy to report that his
appetite has improved. I don't think it will be long until his coat grows back in the shaved spots, and he fills out to a
healthier weight. Thank you for another wonderful member of our family, SCBR!

10/22/05 - Gulliver has been adopted!

10/14/05 - Gulliver the unstoppable three-legged miracle dog has arrived from a shelter in New Jersey. He is a
beautiful fawn boxer mix that has had a very hard life so far. He arrived at the shelter after being hit by a car and
when his owners were found they refused to take him to get treated and they refused to sign him over to the
shelter. Gulliver had to wait 7 days for the stray dog hold to be up before the shelter could even start treating him.
He had a very badly broken leg that the vet tried to save but because Gulliver refused to keep his cast on and the
wait had cause infection to set in, the leg ended up being amputated. The medical staff at the shelter started
calling him the dog that just wouldn't die. Poor Gulliver has been through so much for such a young dog but this
has not slowed him down a bit. Gulliver is so full of life and so happy. He loves playing with my other foster and
has taken an immediate liking to my eleven year old son. He just craves attention. Gulliver will make a wonderful
addition to any family that is willing to give him all the love he has been without for all of his short life.
