UPDATE 10/6/06 - Well, Duke has been with us for a month now. We just love having him! He is so
funny and so sweet! When he isn't sure what we want him to do he'll just give you his paw. He is a
little too interested in the cat right now. Poor guy just can't figure out why this "little dog" doesn't want
to play with him! One thing we've noticed about him is that he doesn't like to eat or do his business
unless someone is right there watching him. I've heard people say that their dogs are like velcro, well,
let's just say that VELCRO would be a great name for this guy. He follows us everywhere and has to
be touching one of us most of the time. We couldn't have asked for a better guy!
9/2/06 - Duke has been adopted!
8/31/06 - Duke has been with us a week and what a wonderful boy he is! He is sweet beyond
anything, puts his head on your lap and looks at you with these big soulful eyes. You can't help but
melt! He sits and gives paw......it is actually funny, if he isn't sure what you want him to do, he gives
paw!!! lol I think Duke is very eager to please and will do wonderful in obedience class. He has some
basics down but just needs to be refined. He is very playful, but not crazy. He loves playing with my
Cosmo, and if Cosmo is not paying attention to him, he will go over and nip at him or touch him with his
paw to get a game of chase or play going. Duke is gentle in that he doesn't jump on you or run and
slam into you, he is however a large puppy so that just has to be taken into consideration (Duke doesn't
realize he isn't the size of a small puppy any longer). But he frollicks and just does the funniest things. I
really like him, his personality is very nice. He isn't aggressive with food or toys or attention. And he
loves to be with my two young girls. He crates up fine and will sleep thru the night without a peep. He
also makes it thru the night in the kennel without any accidents. Duke has had a few number 2
accidents in the house but I'm going to chalk that up to all the changes recently in his life. Becuase he
TOTALLY knows to go outside. He might have a signal that I don't know and like a typical "child"
waits until the VERY LAST second anyway, so then he can't hold it any longer. Duke has been an
absolute pleasure so far and just has the most adorable face. Couple things I did notice, his vertical
jump is outregeous!!!!! So a fenced yard with a high fence would be a benefit, and when he slipped out
the door the other day, I could almost hear him singing FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!! as he raced over
everyone's lawn. I thought I saw a devilish gleam in his eye too! But that was his only sign of him being
mischievious. Oh and he likes to steal things and run with them, like a chase kind of game. He gives it
up immediately though. So you can't yell at him he is just too darn cute!!!!!!!!!!!!
8/25/06 - Thanks to a wonderful friend of SCBR, Christine, Duke made it into rescue! Here is some
info from her: "Just a bit of info about Duke... He lived in a family who was about to have their 4th
child. The woman was just too overwhelmed taking care of Duke and being 6 months pregnant. She
admitted that without walks, Duke was taking himself for walks, by jumping over their fenced in yard
and running away. A nice woman named Linda took care of Duke for the week until he could get to
the vet for his neuter. Linda also has 4 kids, ages 3 to 13. The whole family had a week of fun playing
with “Dukie. They took him to the park and for walks. Duke met other dogs and played with
the kids, who would use Duke as a pillow. He was good in the house all day while Linda and her
husband worked. One day Duke came to the office, what a ham, he thought he was everyone’s
best friend! Who ever adopts Duke will be blessed with a lifetime of fun!"
