UPDATE 8/21/07 - Lexi is doing great can't believe it's been a year seems as though we've had her
forever. She is such a good dog as well as are her brother and sisters at the house.
UPDATE 10/19/06 - On 8/15/06 lexi graduated from beginner obedience class she is doing great. She
is a fast learner and very attentive, she cant do enough to please you. Such is the boxer way, she has to
be the center of attention and/or affection. Thankfully all of our dogs are like that and get equal attention
without too much jealousy.
UPDATE 9/7/06 - HELLO AGAIN FROM VT. LEXI IS DOING GREAT, WE STARTED
OBEDIENCE CLASSES ON THE 13TH OF AUG. SHE HAD BEEN TOUGHT MANY
COMMANDS BEFORE WE ADOPTED HER SO THE TEACHER TENDS TO USE HER A BIT
AS THE "TRY IT THIS WAY DOG" SHE IS VERY SMART AND CANT SEEM TO DO
ENOUGH TO PLEASE. HER APPETITE IS GREAT AND HAS PUT ON SOME WEIGHT
SINCE ARRIVING. SHE NOW LOOKS LIKE SHE IS FILLING OUT. I CANT SAY ENOUGH
ABOUT THE WONDERFUL CARE SHE RECIEVED FROM HER SUPPORT GROUP ALONG
THE WAY WHAT A GREAT GROUP WE ARE ASSOCIATED WITH. SHE LOVES AND IS
LOVED IN RETURN BY OUR PACK VERY DEEPLY.
UPDATE 8/13/06 - Hello from Vermont,
What a trip (Dolley) Lexi was very well behaved! She is an absolute treat in the car. She settled in very
well at our home. Our other 2 dogs got along great as well as she with them. With the exception of a
couple of minutes of dominance posturing by out mini collie and some growling over the toys they all
seem to know their place in our pack. She is just the perfect package, polite, social, outgoing, and
tolerates all other animals and people. She is eating and adjusting well to the country living, our family
and dogs have helped her explore many of our 10 acres. She seems to love it although on a long light
lead she seems to wonder, but makes sure we are with her as if she were free. She is trusting each of us
more and more every day. She have over come so much housing, security, and people changes in such
a short time. My daughter has decided to change her name to Lexi which she is listening to great. She
loves to play with my daughters soccer ball and super soaker. After playing soccer for a while with her
she will drink from the super soaker. Lexi is a great dog and we all love her, she even has grandparents
that love their little girl. SCBR couldn't have picked a better one in (Dolley) she truly is a doll.
Thanks from our entire family,
8/5/06 - Dolley has been adopted!
7/29/06 - Dolley got to go to the Kennebunkport Library's Dog Breed Rescue Day, which was
sponsored by the Library as part of its summer reading program, "Paws,Claws, Scales & Tales".
SCBR was there, along with Greyhound, German Shepherd, and Golden Retriever Rescue who had
information about how dog rescues work. I got to speak to lots of people, and Dolley got to meet
bunches of people! She loved it! She made quite a hit, and really demonstrated to some prople who
were not at all familiar with Boxers that they are gentle, loving, well mannered family dogs who are
good with children. She did also show that they are alert and good watchdogs. The difference in her
demeanor when I saw a newcomer arriving and verbally welcomed them as compared to when
someone new came over when I was engaged in conversation with a different person was notable. She
barked at any I did not 'welcome' unti I did, and then accepted them! She was in the spotlight (and in
the heat) for four hours and lived up to her name--she IS a doll! She was a little more timid in meeting
new dogs, so we didn't push that. What a day!
7/28/06 - Dolley continues to be a doll! She found the doggie doors to both the front and back fenced
in yards and learned how to 'operate' them with only one short how-to session. Other than one
diarrhea accident (Which obviously she couldn't help and is probably due to the changes in her
environment and diet since coming to Maine) there have been no accidents. She met my cat, who
finally came home, and while she was interested in Tiger, it was clear that she is not a cat-killer. My
guess is that she'd chase (who wouldn't) but quickly earn to back off with an assertive cat. I am really
enjoying her in every way--she sleeps with me but is not a bedhog; follows me but is not glued to me;
goes in her crate when I want her to but doesn't have to be crated; and is a FANTASTIC watchdog.
(Which is a nice change because Beau is old and has lost most or all of his hearing and NEVER barks
when somebody comes to the door!) She eats well and I expect her to continue to gain the needed
weight.
7/26/06 - Dolley's beauty is not only skin deep! She is an absolute doll in her behavior, and has already
earned full house priveledges. She even gave Beau a little kiss this afternoon when we were all out on
the deck. Yesterday I took Dolley for a walk in the neighborhood, and she showed that she has quite
good leash manners. She is a little shy, and needed a little encouragement to meet a neighbor. Once
she felt safe (in about 30 seconds!), she was one big nub-wiggling Boxer! She also wagged her nub at
a group of boys walking by, and happily submitted to some petting, and at two little dogs walking by
with their people. But when they barked at her, she needed to bark back. She settled back down with
just a word of reproof, and stayed calm with some words of support. Speaking of barking, Dolley
knows that a Boxer's job is to let her family know about any strange noises. And she does! She is a
great little watchdog, who with true Boxer personality happily welcomes the visitors she announced.
Dolley is so well behaved on the leash that I took her for a walk this evening with Beau--no pulling, and
we had a great time. I love taking my Boxers for walks! This Dolley is ready for her forever home.
Like her namesake, Dolley Madison, she is ready for her second chance at a new long and happy life.
Will it be with you?
7/23/06 - The Riverview has opened its doors to a new foster after some much needed vacation and
renovations. Dolley arrived late last night and is a stray to a shelter in NY that called us to get her in.
She charmed her transporters as she made the long trip to Maine. Although she is quite skinny, she is a
gorgeous, long-legged plain fawn with a classic black mask and white toes and chest. Dolley is
reported to be about 2 years old and spayed. She slept in the crate in my bedroom all night without a
peep, and after going to the bathroom outside like a good little girl, she went back in so I could go to
church. She investigated the back yard, had some brunch, and is hanging out in the kitchen while I
write. She and Beau wiggled nubs at each other through the baby gates. I'll let them meet when I am
confident that she is comfortable here.
7/22/06 - TRANSPORTERS COMMENTS:
We finished the transport for these two and they were everything Anne said. Dolley, was just precious.
She road in the front passengers seat curled up and I petted her all the way to Kennebunk. She has the
sweetest face and eyes that just melt you. She needs to put on some weight as she is very skinny, but
will be gorgeous when she does.
Stretch did finally calm down and went to sleep next to Mike after giving many boxer kisses and trying
to get him to play in the back seat. He just loves people and is a very handsome boy.
Both dogs will make some family very happy. It was a pleasure to help them get into rescue. Also very
nice to see Richard and Anne again on our travels for SCBR. Hope to again soon.
Here are some pics from yesterday's transport. Both dogs were awesome. They behaved really well
together, especially since they'd never even met before!
Stretch was a bundle of energy...John and Char can attest to the fact that he LOVES stuffed toys. We
all watched as he pulled the stuffing out of the toy they'd given him in 2 seconds flat!! He's also a big
love - if you could add all of the dog kisses I've received in the past year together, I'm still not sure
they'd come close to the kisses this guy gave me yesterday!! He also has the softest boxer fur I've ever
felt - I could rub his
head all day!!
Dolley was just the sweetest little lady. She spent most of the ride cuddled close to my side with her
head on my chest. At one point I could feel a vibration coming from her throat, and was starting to
wonder if dogs could purr when she really kicked in and I realized she was just snoring!! I thought she
was a perfect angel. She's going to make someone a very big, but very loving lapdog!
