UPDATE 12/14/07 - This is Dixie's one year update.
She is doing well. She has full rome of the house and is very settled.  She does not like the winter cold
very much but spends evenings lying comfortably by the fire. She is very affectionate and travels with us
everywhere.  She enjoys trips in the car very much.  She is a big part of our family and is happy and
healthy. Thanks Second Chance Boxer!

UPDATE 6/5/07 - Dixie is still doing great after six months.  She is very friendly and does very well
with visitors.
She still loves to go for car rides.
I am in the process of replacing my split rail fence with a stockade fence, so that she and our other
boxer will be able to spend more time outside.
She doesn't seem very interested in playing with any toys, like a Tuffy or a ball, but if we take two old
socks and roll them up into a ball she loves it and plays all day. She is a big snuggle bug and loves to
climb in your lap.  She is the best.

UPDATE 3/9/07 -  We just finished obedience class!! I was a little skeptical about the class, only
because Dixie is such a great dog. I thought why do we have to take her to obedience class?  Well,
Dixie does not pull at all on her leash when I walk her now (I did by a harness and it works great).  She
also likes to climb up in your lap when we are sitting down and we learned a cure for that.  There were
a few other little things we learned and it was good to get out and go for a ride and meet other people
and other pets.
I've always talked about Dixie and our other boxer getting along so well, they have shared the dog beds
that we had (one upstairs and one downstairs) , but we got Dixie her own and she loves it. (she does
share).
She even sneaks upstairs to lay in it when we are downstairs watching tv.
She does not like the cold weather, we can't wait to go outside and play when it gets warm!

UPDATE 2/9/07 - This is Dixie's 2 month update.  We have begun obedience training, which is going
ok.  Dixie would rather play with all the dogs, just like she does with our other Boxer. They are really
good buddies.
We've only had 1 class, I know she will do better
because she is so smart and she is really good.
She loves going in the car and the cold weather hasn't
seemed to bother her much, but now one of her favorite things to do, is to lay in front of our pellet
stove. Dixie is truly part of the family and is loved by all of us.  She shows a great deal of love herself
and we can't imagine not having her. She is the best.

UPDATE 1/8/07 - We have had Dixie for a month, it seems like she has always been here. She fits
right in. We were hesitant to get another Boxer, becuase he have "Oddball"
He was our youngest of 3 Boxers.  We lost one boxer in 2005 and then another in the Spring of 2006.
Since then Oddie has really ejoyed all the attention and has turned into a big baby.
Dixie was so good when she came into our house, the two of them have never had any issues.  She is a
big baby too.  She really would just love to be held all day.  She loves to give big wet kisses.
The two dogs sleep together and play together. Oddball has a long tail and Dixie will start their playing
by going after his tail.
Dixie hasn't had any health issues.
We just got signed up for obedience classes, but don't start til 2/1.
She loves going in the car and just going outside in general.
One funny thing that she does, is she lays on the stairs.
The first time she did it, the sun was coming through the door and it was shining on the stairs, we
thought she just wanted to catch some rays. but she lays there a lot, with ot without the sun.

12/10/06 - Dixie has been adopted!

12/5/06 - If I were Santa I would put a big red bow on Dixie and plop her in someone's stocking for
Christmas! She is a wonderful wonderful girl.

Today is day three and although I had sent in a note on the first night to have her status for children read
"unsure", yesterday dawned a whole new light. The first night she was with us she growled at my
daughters which I have NEVER seen a Boxer do, Boxers LOVE kids, and so I was very nervous.
However, after giving it some slow introductions I have concluded that she was simply just still adjusting
to her new surroundings. She had a family for over three years and then had car rides with two
diffferent people then brought to a new house. So understandably she was out of her element a bit. She
and my girls are best of friends now.

I have been keeping her upstairs with the family as much as possible. She stays gated in the kitchen with
me so she can see the other dogs and the patterns of our family. It is my dogs that don't care to have a
new furry friend in the house. Dixie couldn't care less about them. She growls back or snaps at the gate
only when they do first.

During times when my two are crated and Dixie has the run of the place, I will often find her asleep in
her crate downstairs. She goes right in with no problems at all and enjoys the comfort of a blanket over
the top of the crate to give her a more snuggled in feeling.

She is very well housebroken, has had no accidents and holds on for a good long time. So anyone
adopting won't have any issues there.

She is still very quiet. Does not bark unless the other two get going and never wimpers to leave the
crate or gated room. I have yet to see her do the kidney bean dance though. She gives more subdued
Boxer wiggles, doesn't do the "see my bum" C shape dance like others I've seen. She likes to keep
herself facing you straight on, then very slowly climbs up on you while smothering you in Boxer kisses.

I plan on not having face to face introductions with my two yet, although I do think Dixie will fit fine in a
home with another dog. It's just that my big white boy says he's the boss right now. I may try in a few
more days once the scents start to co-mingle a bit more and everyone is used to each other.

But I can't say enough good things about Dixie. She loves to go for walks, pulls a bit on the leash but is
a good girl walking. She really has no problems anywhere so I think someone should scoop this beauty
up real quick! I think she would benefit from someone giving her gentle time to adjust to new
surroundings and just letting her know they are there with love for her. Once she decides you are her
person, she will be next to you constantly. She loves to lean on my legs no matter which room I'm in. If
I'm sitting watching TV, she parks herself right in front of me and keeps an eye on the room. It's great,
she's awesome! Someone needs to give her a new home for the holidays. This girl deserves it.

12/3/06 - I picked Dixie up at 9:30 this morning. She is a very quiet happy girl. What a pretty face!
Georgeous eyes! She has surprised me with how quiet and mellow she is. She is an owner surrender,
she may have
been destructive to some furniture and it was said that she was much harder to handle than their other
boxer. They didn't feel they had time enough or energy enough to care for her and so gave her up.

When we first get home, the first thing we do is go right to the "zone". That's the dog's bathroom. She
went immediately even though I'm sure it was full of scents from others. Didn't bother Dixie at all.

I had crated my 2 dogs for when we first got home. I also put Dixie in her crate which she went into
with no problem. I let all 3 dogs stay crated for about an hour to sniff things out. She didn't make any
noise at all and just layed herself down comfortably.

After the hour and everyone being so quiet I decided to try some closer sniffing and so let my female,
Rain, out of her crate first. She ran right to Dixie's crate and was busy busy sniffing and trying to figure
out who this new girl is. Dixie couldn't care less. She just sat up for a bit, let Rain get her nose full then
layed down
again. Rain went on with business elsewhere. I let my big boy Hudson out next and he did the same
thing, got a nose full of Dixie smell then when there was no competition from Dixie in the crate went on
his way.

After a while I tried the plan in reverse. Crated my two and let Dixie run around the house a bit. My
boy didn't like that at all and got real defensive when she tried to sniff him through his crate. I suppose
because he had a stranger in his house he couldn't protect us from. So we brought Dixie upstairs for a
bit, outside for a quick
walk and potty and back to her crate. I'm going to alternate crate times for all of them for today and
maybe tomorrow depending on how things go. I really think Dixie would be fine but it's my two. They
get very busy and of course want to jump and play boxer but when one moves too fast the other does
too and then someone gets defensive so I'm going to handle face to face introductions very slowly.

I took her for a short walk and although she pulls on the lead she does walk fairly well. I'm not sure if
she knows any commands yet, she wouldn't sit when I asked but that could be just being in such a new
environment.

I am planning on crating her when I can't be in the house as I'm not sure if she has seperation anxiety
and maybe that is why she was destructive in the household but from what I'm seeing so far this
afternoon, she's wonderful.

I'm sure if someone has a mellow dog like Dixie there wouldn't be any trouble with another dog at all.
She's very sweet, gives quiet boxer wiggles and oh so tender boxer kisses. Someone needs to scoop
this
cutie up real quick!
