11/16/06 - Buttercup is doing very well and enjoying running in our fenced in back yard. She loves to
play. She loves her heavy tire and other chew toys. I bought her a hard
plastic squeaky toy and she ate it within 5 minutes when I wasn't looking. She loves to chew as
puppies do. I do leave her loose in the house and so far
She has been very good. She loves to go for rides and sits quietly. She has mastered sit and come, and
is doing well learning stay and to drop her toys when I say drop. This training is on-going. She is just a
sweet-heart. She has learned from Morgan to bark at the door bell and now responds when she hears
someone entering the front door. She likes younger children 3 and 4 year olds but has no clue how
strong she is.
My grand-daughter is used to older boxers who will let a child get a ball that is thrown near them.
Buttercup, wants the ball no matter what and can easily knock a small child down should they get in the
path between her and the toy/ball. She likes to cuddle on the couch with me while I watch TV. and
enjoys sleeping in bed. She follows me from room to room and waits patiently for me while I shower
and dress. She is a wonderful companion. She is very smart and will make a wonderful addition to
anyone's family.
11/7/06 - A baby! -- We have a baby in our home! It has been 14 years since I have had a puppy
around the house. In my conscious mind I think I forgot how wonderful puppies are. Although she is a
year now, she is still very much a pup. Yesterday was her fist full day at my house and so far she has no
issues. Everything new she comes across seems to be just fine with her. She is boxer intelligent which
is a plus!
Buttercup is full of wonderment and life. She is just an adorable baby girl. She met my 3 year old
grand-daughter last night and was very gentle with her - lots of kisses for her. The kids had a great time
playing together. Buttercup is fascinated by Riley's toys and wanted them very much (Toys are put
away when Riley is not here). She is learning the "leave-it" command and is responding very well. She
will play alone with her toys by tossing them in the air and chasing them but she likes it much better if I
throw things into the kitchen for her to retrieve. Working on drop and she will drop a toy on first time
hearing the command about 50% of the time. She rushes the door when someone comes in and would
escape if you are not careful. I keep her on a short leash when she is not in her crate. I am pretty sure
you would have to catch her if she accidentally escaped. Basic training would be helpful for her.
She is not crated this morning. I pray all is well and I will let you know after lunch how things went this
morning. She just has been crated so much I'd like to give her an opportunity to be free in the house.
She loves to explore my back yard and goes to the door when she wants to go outside. She has had no
indoor accidents as yet. Her left leg is still bothering her and she avoids bearing weight on it for now. I
am not leash walking her until I see some improvement with her limp.
Please consider this adorable baby girl as your own!
11/6/06 - I agree she is a Valley bulldogge or an Olde English Bulldogge. I promised my 10 year old
Grandson, Parker that he could name her if he drove with me to pick her up yesterday. Buttercup is
what he likes as a name for her. Quite a ride for us, as it took about 2 1/2 hrs each way. He was a
good sport and was a great help finding the different routes and turns. She responds to this name nicely!
Anyway, this girl is beautify. She and Morgan hit it off just fine and she and they seemed like old
friends. I don't crate when I am home so she had the run of the house last night and this morning. She
ate a good dinner last night and settled in as if she had been there for ever! Jen mentioned that she was
stiff from being in the crate at the vets, but we will keep a watchful eye on it. This girl is a perfect lady in
the house. She spent the evening playing with Parker and me. She prefers the couch when she is done
playing but also liked sharing a dog bed with Mo. I did spend a few minutes practicing "leave-it" and
she responded very well. Buttercup is a calm, good natured, gentle dog, who is willing to please.
11/5/06 - Well the Bulldog/Boxer mix girl is here at the White Boxer Ranch and what an absolute
sweetheart she is. When she arrived in rescue she was very full of energy as she was found as a stray
& spent 30 days in a vets office and had to be crated. Now she had eliminated some of that energy
and settled a bit, but is still full of the puppy energy she has, however for a 1 year old girl she is an
awesome dog. We have temperment tested her with our two little girls 7 and 4.5 and she is great with
the kids. Now having said that due to her undying energy I feel she should go to an experienced dog
home. That is just my long time dog owner feeling that a new dog owner won't easily manage her
energy. That's is not to say that she can't be with kids, she just needs to be with children who are
experienced with dogs. My girls have been made aware that they are not to play tug-o-war with her,
as she really wants to get the toy. She loves toys and plays really well with Simon and Metty. I do
think that fabric toys will easily become a thing of the past if she plays with them. She needs to be
walked and worked with to expend the recreated energy. She has a great appetite, and has "polished"
off everything put in front of her. As you can see by the pictures we are keeping a leash on her so
"Gypsy" dosen't eat her for dessert. Gypsy is 16 and does not tolerate "youngsters" well. That being
said she is very quickly reading the signals from the other dogs, 3 in total, and understands when they
tell her "don't do that". She is very submissive and rolls onto her back at every chance for a belly rub.
She has great training potential as she listens very well!! She was told she had to stay in the kitchen in a
down position and she did last night while we ate dinner Just now I told her to "down" at my feet and
down she went. Someone worked with her and she does know basic commands very well. She does
love to play with the other dogs but I'm pretty sure she could get out of hand if unsupervised as she is
pushy in playtime. She is excellent in the crate and only wines for a few minutes if you are in the same
vicinity, but that quickly stops when you walk away. I think she is a perfect little one year old puppy
with a lot of puppy energy!!
