UPDATE 3/22/11 - On February 22, Doofus celebrated his 8th birthday! He is doing very well and has adjusted to
life in Pennsylvania. Doofus has always been the talk of the town and moreso since he was interviewed by our
local newspaper, The Morning Call, for the My Fuzzy Friend  column. He still receives toys from my travels and his
favorite is a hedghog from Harrod's in London and the armadillo from the former Marshall Field's State Street pet
emporium in Chicago. A pampered pooch, indeed. Doofus loves to ride in the car although we haven't taken him
on any overnight trips. We usually have a pet sitter come to our home, where he seems to be the most
comfortable. He can tell time, no, really - he knows exactly when my husband gets home from work and will go
straight to the porch to greet him. He also knows what time he gets his evening cookie and will chuff at you until
you get your lazy rear end off the couch to get it for him. Oh, he's such a personality! He's the light of our lives.
We are so fortunate to have our sweet boy for five years now. Our last rescue Kiki went to the bridge only four short
months after we adopted her - and our hearts still ache for that beautiful boxer. I still have the x-ray showing where
some fool shot her in the chest. Kiki died from cancer, but her x-rays showed she endured a lot of abuse before we
were lucky to have her. Thank you, Second Chance Boxer Rescue for giving our friends another chance at life and
love! Doofus sends wiggles and kisses!

UPDATE 3/23/09 - Ok, before everyone goes ballistic, Doofus is very aptly named - believe me, he is a Doofus.
When we got him on that cold wintry day, our boy was originally supposed to be a foster. After 1 hour of visitation, it
was so clear that this emaciated, chewed-up bloody tailed slip of a boy would be here forever. Faxed LeAnn and
the rest is history! We got his weight up, had him neutered and the tail re-docked ( at the same time) and taught
him how to be a social boy. He had never played with toys, so we had to teach him that playing is a good thing -
now this sweet fellow gets toys from Harrod's in London! Nothing is too good for our Doof! He is very happy here
and we just love him to bits! We are planning to attend the Boxer Bash in June.

2/11/06 - Brutus has been adopted!

2/11/06 - Brutus is now safe and sound in his new foster home!  We arrived about noon after meeting Krista in PA
for the big exchange. Many thanks, Krista! Brutus was nervous for about twenty minutes as we drove home, but
quickly realized he must be in good hands.  He fell asleep on my lap - what a cuddly boy! We initially could not get
him to come into the house, but after several minutes of coaxing, you'd think he always lived here. My husband fed
Brutus when we arrived home and he ate all of his food. He's a little thin, so we fed him another cup of food at
dinnertime, which he ate most of it. I made a vet appointment for Tuesday to have him checked for heartworm and
need to set an appointment to have him neutered.  My stepson is home for the weekend and he was so enamored
of this sweet boy that he phoned all of his friends and Brutus had a steady stream of visitors. He romped and
played all afternoon and is plum tuckered out! Brutus does not like other dogs - especially ones bigger than him -
so he seems VERY happy to be in a home with no other pets. More updates to come!

2/8/06 - Once Brutus gets all of his shots/neutering he should be good to go in a house without another dog.  He is
great with my cat.  A sniff here and there but nothing else.  I think he just crave's human affection as do they all.  He
wimpers when I leave but doesn't have any major separation anxiety other than that.  He's great with my kids and
his little boxer wiggles are coming out strong.  He is such a doll!  So well behaved and mellow for a boxer.

2/7/06 - Brutus is so far a very gentle, mellow dog.  He has a thick coat of soft fur and as he is getting used to the
new surroundings, the boxer wiggles are starting to happen.  He is good with my kids, gentle on a leash and
good with my cat but is a little scared of my husband and my dog right now.  He follows me around for security and
seems to be a little unsure of things. He weighs about 70 lbs but doesn't look overweight at all.

2/6/06 - I picked up Brutus tonight. He was an owner surrender. The owner's German Shepard just didn't like
having him around.  Right now he is very shy and timid and is very scared of my dog. He was very gentle with the
kids and walks very calmly and gentle on the leash. I don't think he knows how to play or he's just too scared right
now. I got the vet information so I will be calling up for all the info tomorrow. He has to be neutered too.
