UPDATE 9/22/05 - We talked to Jackie about the name. He had only had it a couple
weeks after being picked up as a stray. Riley as in the Life Of...., was an obvious choice
for him.
I feel sorry for his last owners as they lost a beautiful guy in body and temperament. I
have fallen had for this fellow. He is loved by everyone he meets. We do a lot of short
walks and car rides. He has stopped pulling and classes are about half done. I think he
gets an A.
We went camping for a week and he did well. He was found in the city so there where
some things that he had not seen before. He took all with no trouble. We even took 3
canoe rides. He did need convincing the first time. By the third time he was walking in
calmly. He will not get his feet wet when leaving the boat. I did not blame him; the
water was wet and cold.
The adjustment has been minimal. We where made for each other. He has been my
companion and friend. I could not ask for more. Boxer wiggles, hugs and prancing
have given me a lot to smile about.
I thank my friend for nagging me to 'just look at the site'. It was good advise.
8/21/05 - Yukon has been adopted!
08/06/05 - Yukon has arrived at his foster home, Boxer'In on the Lake. He is a 4-5
year old stray who was surrendered from a shelter. He is a beautiful brindle with a
touch of white on his back feet and chest. Yukon would like to thank his friend Gail,
who drove him almost all the way to his foster
home. He told me that she was very good to him. He has cropped ears which are
beautiful and a docked tail. He has been a wonderful guest so far. He has met all of
his foster brothers and sisters and likes other dogs very much. He went to the vet's
yesterday and was heartworm tested, given a
kennel cough vaccination, and she also looked at many of the small areas where Yukon
has some abrasions. All of them are healing nicely and no other treatment is necessary
at this time. Everyone at the vet thought he was cute. He will be neutered on
Thursday and then he will be ready for his new home. He is a great guy. He loves
people, has nice manners and is just very calm. He loved playing last night in our
fenced in yard with all the dogs. It was nice to see him so happy as he has been so
reserved. He loves to eat for such a small boy as he only weighs 46 lbs. He is eating
kibble mixed with a little warm water. He finishes every morsel. If you are looking for a
boxer that would fit right in, Yukon is for you. We are working hard on helping him
learn his new name. He will be ready soon. He will make a great addition to any family.
8/4/05 - Yukon has made his way to the Boxer'In on the Lake. He is a beautiful
pint-size brindle boy. He will see the vet tomorrow as we think he might have been hit
by a car. He has some cuts, scraps and a little lameness. More on Yukon to come as
we get to know him.
