UPDATE 6/13/05 - Well Trixie made her transition from foster home to fover home pretty stress free.
As in, from the couch to the food dish, to the yard and back! So many people are amazed at how much
she bonded to me. She always looks for me and follows my voice. I am 100% glad I made the decision
to adopt her. You can just tell she made her decision that this is where she'll spend her last years. She's
doing pretty well even through the heat wave we have. She likes to walk around in the kiddie pool but
mostly snooze in front of the fan. I notice some vision problems - she doesn't seem to 'see' the dogs or
me if we are not within a foot of her. I think that may be why she occasionally growls if Apollo or Tyson
come to close to her. However she will come to them and join in their boxer boy goofy games. I am also
going to have a suspicious lump on her butt looked at and removed. It doesn't seem to cause discomfort
but it is a medium sized growth. Tixie and I visited my mom down by NYC and we took lots of walks in
woods and parks, and she was perfectly fine being at a different place. I really love this girl. Something
about the look in her kind of unfocused eyes - you just know if she could talk she'd have a ton of stories,
and not all good ones. Well, I am proud and glad to help give her a happy chapter in her life.
May 2005 Trixie has been adopted!
05-15-05 Hi! My foster mommy is taking care of the new guy at the house, so I figure I'll sneak on here
and tell you how I'm doing. I gotta say, what's with all the boys around here? I got used to the two
resident boxerboyz, and now there's a new little guy here, Elijah. He's great and all but he should really
keep that tongue in his mouth more instead of wagging it around, sheesh. How....how...puppyish.
Anyways, I'm doing great and loving life. My foster mom takes me to lots of cool places and I meet all
sorts of people and dogs. They all seem to like me and I like them. The only times I get cranky is if one
of my foster brothers pesters me while I'm trying to sleep. I mean, there's no sign anywhere saying it's
THEIR couch, and I have seniority, so...so there. My foster mommy took me to this thing called a
BRAD in a really big place called a mall. There were a lot of other boxers there, all different sizes and
colors. It was lots of fun. So many people loved me and could not believe I am 8 years old. Because I'm
kind of little, some of them still thought I was a pup. I still have a lot of pup spunk in me. Every now and
then I like to leap for joy, especially when my foster brothers are playing. I just have to join in and play
with them too. My mom will sometimes sing 'Leapin' Lizards!!!' to me when she walks me and then I
leap around, not because her voice is strange, just 'cause I'm so happy to be alive. Anyways, I would
love to give you some cuddles, snuggles, and leaps too, even if you don't sing for me. Just give me a
warm safe place and I'll be happy!
04/23/05 - Trixie must be taking a dip in the fountain of youth when I'm not looking- she is looking and
acting younger by the day! I think she has even less grey on her muzzle! She can eat dry food fine now,
and is up to 50 lbs, which is about where she should be. During our bout of warm spring weather, she
loved going for walks in the back fields and rolling around in the hay. She also leaps when she runs, it is
the funniest thing. She loves attention and when I'm sitting at my desk, she'll come up and push my hand
out of the way with her little nose and sit her head on my lap. But she is perfectly content by herself too.
She likes a good snuggle or scritch but also likes her space. She usually sleeps alone and does fine in a
crate but doesn't *need* to be crated. She growls occasionally if my dog Apollo comes too close to her
dish or 'her' spot on the couch, but other than that, everybody's getting along. Outside in my fenced in
area, Trixie and my other boys love playing together and 'digging for treasure' in the hay and dirt pile i set
for them. Trixie did great at a BRAD, and was friendly towards all sorts of people and dogs. I think she
would be good for someone in an apartment too, because she is so small and never barks. I'd
recommend someone who could be home at mid-day. She needs to go potty 3 or 4 times a day
probably because of her age, but other than that she's pretty adaptable. You almost wouldn't know she's
around except when she comes up to nuzzle you. So come on and get those apps in!
04/03/05 - Trixie’s true colors are beginning to show physically and personality wise. She’s
filled out a little bit
and her coat is nice and shiny now. She is a very sweet girl and I’m also finding she’s a tiny
trickster! She pulled on her lead a couple times when I walked her but I told her to ‘heel’ and she
understood and came right back to my side. I just think she is so happy to be able to walk around and
explore, that she got a little carried away. Also, once I gave all three dogs a treat and my Tyson strolled
away from his treat. The next thing you know, little Trixie started dragging Tyson’s treat away! I
laughed and redirected her to her own treat.
I had to go away overnight and the dog sitter said Trixie and my boxer boys were angels. No
destructiveness, countersurfing, food aggression, or trash diving. Trixie had just one pee accident while I
was gone. But, when I returned with my friend and fellow SCBR volunteer, there was one scuffle
between Trixie and Apollo. Apollo was being kissy with my friend and Trixie came close wanting to
share the attention. We don’t know who instigated the fight but we did have to separate the 2. The
situation is calmer now  today all 3 dogs were ear cleaning each other. But from now on I will
separate her from the boys and crate her when I go out.
Trixie is fine in public and indifferent to strange dogs and cats. She even charmed an entire preschool so
I know she’s good with kids. She has excellent recall and understands basic commands. Other than
the
accident while I was gone, she is potty trained and goes when I take her out on lead. She can eat dry
food
and crunchy treats fine but I still mix in a little moist food. I can see signs that Trixie may have been
scared or mistreated in the past. Occasionally she’s a little jumpy if you approach her from behind
or come
towards her directly. But no matter what, you can tell all she wants to do is love you and snuggle. So
open up your home and give some lovin’ back to this little girl!
03/28/05 - Trixie is an adorable little girl. And I mean little, in stature and in weight. She prefers soft
food because her teeth are pretty worn. Once she got used to the house, my son, and my boxer boys,
and me, Trixie became one butt wiggley girl. She loves giving kisses, and a couple times stood up and
balanced on 2 legs with joy! She also tried to stand up and give me 'hugs' but knows to get 'off.' She is
very quiet and walks great on lead. She's had to go potty frequently since she's been here, but waits until
I take her out. She just had her spay and had kennel cough so she's on antibiotics for the rest of the
week. She also needs to be re-wormed in 3 weeks. I'll update more as we get to know this little girl!
